Andariel, Maiden of Frustration

I dont think I can be the only one, but Andarial has some of the most frustrating “mechanics” I have ever seen. I can ignore the lack of ability to kill her in one phase. However, once I get her to her lowest HP in that point and she wont take damage and go into the intermission phase 1 or 2 more times instantly, I get pretty frustrated. Also, the storm around the edges of the map seem unnecessary. It hits so hard that you cant really recover from touching the edge of a room you couldn’t walk past anyway. Anything from that fight really can one shot you in this way. Spamming your health potion wont save you. I think my current largest frustration is using The Hunter to “leap” over the death beams but you die instantly as the animation doesn’t match your hitbox. Or that Ravager snaps me to her at angles that the death beam will clip me.

Her loot pool isn’t worth the frustration to me, BUT it feels like a waste of boss mats to not use them.

Why you bad?

Andy is easy.

Ah, thanks. That fixed it. I don’t have instant intermissions anymore.

It is annoying to hit her for 10x her health pool and not have her die.

You’re a spirit born yes?

You trying to solo her or what? Her tower of power phase lasts less then 2 seconds in a group. Maybe 5 if you’re Solo.

Use the hunter. Kill the towers.

Perhaps try not being bad?

Well I play SSF, so yes, I solo her.

Her first intermission phase is easy. It is the inconsistent intermission phases that get insane to deal with.

It seems after certain dmg threshold she does only one phase. That is unskippable, which I think is bad design but w/e.

After she comes back you have to deal certain amount of damage within a second and than 9 times out of 10 she just dies.
But sometimes she does not and then she can repeat the mechanics 2-3 times in row wasting a lot of time.

I guess there is some chance it bugs out. These phases for Andy are weird I suspect that intern that coded it made a mistake somewhere.

I’m no master strategist, if I can do it, anyone can.

Start as you mentioned, hitting her damage cap.
Move quickly to and destroy the pilons in clockwise fashion, beginning at 2 o’clock.
Step NE from the last pilon a few steps. She just went active.
Trigger invul, and nuke at close range.
Bathe in the blood of your fallen opponent.

When you can do this smoothly, her next phase won’t even get started.

I suppose I should have prefaced my original post with: I have killed her about 100 times this season. But she stands out as a boss due to her awkward mechanics. Every other fight I die on, I understand what went wrong. There is no other ladder boss fight remotely similar in its complexity with its unforgiving nature.

I understand the fight. I am annoyed with the bugs and then dealing with one shot mechanics after 3 phases of her just not taking damage despite being at the health cap.

I can’t stand one shot mechanics. It’s very offputting and irritating to be deleted for missing a miniscule line dancing maneuver.

It didn’t help that when I was learning the event, the rather well known guide I was referencing erroneously reversed which parts were one-shot and which could be evaded through. Maddening.

I agree. Once you hit torment 3, this fight becomes stupid and a skip even when it’s a whisper. There are times you actually can’t avoid being hit, and it’s basically insta death.

Right? As difficult as some mechanics already are on their own merits, the devs seem to build-in the random zero-survival scenario. What kind of sadistic monster does this?

I genuinely can’t imagine devs doing that fight on T4 and going “I’m okay with this” and moving on to something else.

Andariel’s mechanics are annoying for sure. The one-shots are silly for a ladder boss. Lilith having one-shot mechanics makes since that is a pinnacle boss but a ladder boss shouldn’t be as annoying. The invulnerable phase is silly and should be removed. Andy is the only ladder boss who feels more like a pinnacle boss.

This is why I drop andariel mats on the ground. they’re worthless.

At least what you need to do is more obvious with her. Things you need to avoid are highlighted well. I can avoid her attacks for minutes.

I think beast is worse if you can’t burst it down. The safe zone of it’s sweeping attack is hardly visible.

There is only I mechanic that could change which is all the drama she creates when you kill her.

I with there was a 2:1 exchange rate to transfer her mats to Duriels. It would at least make them worth something. I hate that I could be leaving mythics on the table (cope mindset I know) by not using them.

So you accept that the fight sucks.

You know her loot table is the same as big D.

And you still insist on fighting her because reasons?

Oh and to top it all off you make this post on the forums? Why don’t you just ask blizzard for a 4 GA shako while you’re at it?

Because you are either blind or challenged, I will explain to you what I have said through out this thread.

The boss has glitches or poor coding that makes the boss harder than any other ladder boss
The boss has the the same loot table as Duriel, meaning not using those mats, is just a waste of mats
My frustration comes from the lack of reward for the amount of effort it takes to overcome poor coding.

And yes, to top it all off, I share my experience of a game I would like improved by creating dialogue and awareness.

Not once have I even asked for a reward in this thread or said that I deserve anything. I simply want the boss to have something consistent about it. Either better rewards for its difficulty, or better coding for its current loot pool.
