When grouping in Immortal works, it really works and it’s fun. You drop a quick reminder in world chat, and players show up in droves to do Demonic Fissure invasion events, the Ancient Nightmare, Haunted Carriage, even the Hydra/Golem summons or Random Dungeon grouping that is almost always doable.
But D4 feels distinctly lonely. Even though there was early outraged regarding “forced MMO features”, it was always going to be
“you’ll see other players in the open world but dungeons will be solo”
However the lack of innovation and creativity in FILLING said open world with interesting fun events and activities has made grouping in D4 very uninspiring. Let’s face it: Legions suck. Especially when you see chinese bots coasting during them.
But the Dark Citadel is a step in the right direction in fixing this problem. You can solo pretty much anything there is in the game, aside maybe from Tormented Ubers or the newly fattened-up World Bosses.
Now with the new Party Finder, we can get things done more efficiently. and the Dark Citadel is an excellent opportunity to literally get the party going finally, and give us something more to look forward to whenever we log into the game other than “ugh what am I gonna do now; more stupid NMDs or ubers or go farm Helltide with my eyes closed?”
Godamn it why can I still smell my 15-minute old fart??
Hard disagree. It is in fact making the problem worse. Forced multiplayer activities actively make myself and many others not want to play the game. It moved the needle backwards, not forward. This is a solution for you but not for many.
Here’s the thing, if this is a deal breaker for you, a completely optional co-op mode then you were already looking for reasons to leave. Just be honest with yourself lol.
I’m having more fun in Season 5 than I have since launch. D4 is getting pretty good. I have absolutely no problem with multiplayer activities. I have a major problem with gating content and rewards behind them, which Blizzard has confirmed multiple times since announcing the game mode.
I really enjoy this part in DI. I wish D4 have a similar feature. Back when I was playing DI, a lot of folks are bashing the game because it’s P2W. They kept saying D4 will blow out DI, but we know now that ain’t true at all lol.
I am kinda neutral in the coop event. If there was no group finder, I would be angry because that would force me to go to Discord which I am avoiding for now.
However, Citadel will be better with non-rando groups. Even in DI, partying with random players are either plagued with noobs who don’t know what to do in a dungeon or too weak to do anything.
I just hope in this Citadel that the only reason why I would need someone is to hit the switch. I am OK doing the DPS but if my run will be affected by some weak DPS player, then that sucks. I might be forced to group with equally good players. I am also OK if someone with DPS will carry me. But if the run is affected by both folks needing to have godly dps, then that sucks.
I’m looking forward to the Dungeons themselves, just not the forced co-op part of it is all. Yes Party Finder will make it much easier to group in the game, but that isn’t the point. To date there has been no content within any Diablo game (aside from immortal) that required grouping. It’s all been soloable up to this point.
It’s more about the disconnect between developers and their player base. They even stated the majority in the game right now play solo. Now granted I would say that is mostly due to a lack of easy grouping which is being addressed, but that doesn’t discredit those who prefer to stay solo the majority of the time.
However if they came out with the Dark Citadel and said it can be taken on from anywhere of 1 to 4 players, it would’ve gone over a lot better. They could even add in that if you decide to take on this new dungeon with friends there will be more puzzles for you and your party to figure out with the potential of more loot. Now I’m not saying everyone would agree, but it would’ve been better then this announcement.
Think about the initial outcry against D:I at the time it was announced. Expectations were high for D4 to be announced, but instead we got a mobile game from a company with a predominantly PC based audience at the time. I don’t blame them for coming out with D:I it was actually a smart move, but the timing in which they did it was horrible. Just as I feel the timing of this new content is also horrible.
Give us the dungeon in a solo format first, then introduce co-op incentives later. That’s all I’m saying.
I really enjoy co-op in D4 and I think the addition of a group finder is only going to make it better, so yeah…this is a positive thing for the game IMO.
People complaining about it are overreacting, really. It’ll take 30 minutes once a week. That’s it. This is not a 4 hour WoW raid. And if you don’t want to do it, the only thing you’ll be missing out on is some cosmetics and maybe tempering scrolls. Not the end of the world if that’s your decision.
I hope I group with the OP. When I have to get up to take care of stuff with no warning. It will be the best of times. See you in about 5 to 10 minutes bud.
I’d say you’re probably in a sizable group looking forward to it. I’m curious to see how popular it is after season 6 is over. People were all about the gauntlet when it first hit and now it seems to be mostly ignored. I hope for all the people excited it’s enough to fuel a good few seasons.
I stopped looking forward to things in D4. I just let them happen. This limits my disappointment, and in some respects, surprises me with how much fun it is. For example, in PTR I thought the infernal hordes were horrible. Now, I really enjoy them. So yeah, expectations can only lead to disappointment around here.
Well in regards to tempering scrolls, how many will we possibly need anyway? I mean, a fair bit depending on RNG but their need is a finite value. How often shall we expect the loot to be revamped so much that we’ll have to re-gear from scratch?
If the current loot iteration is the FINAL ever iteration, then once we get the desired tempering results on however many non-Unique gear of ours, the scrolls will be toilet paper.
You are talking to the wrong crowd. Some people are awful at games, so they hide away in games where no one can tell them how bad they are. Diablo is a safe haven for these types.
