Always online Diablo is a mistake

Havne’t managed to get in yet, but the whole idea of an always online Diablo feels like a mistake to me. It was one of the great things about the game that you could play on planes and have no wait for the server bs.

There may be some good side of it having an online portion but…I just can’t see it outweighing what we loved about the game. Private grinding of gear and offline private fun, or direct connections with your friends. A 30 minute wait time to play diablo is just…well a horribly depressing start.

It’s all about money, you can’t charge for all kinds of things in-game if you allow offline, so basically we allow companies like Blizzard to scam us by letting them do online games and still buying them, sad but true…

Agreed, that is exactly why I am depressed about this so far. Already getting early D3, D immortal vibes and I haven’t even gotten into the game. I expect extreme rng and pay to win again. I was hoping for a late stage D3, with the hopes that they learned something but right now I just see money sings in their eyes and a huge lack of caring about the communities feelings…par for the course.

I kind of like seeing other people playing and joining in on world mob kills.

Not saying there shouldn’t be an online option. Saying there should be an offline option.

I agree. Options are a plus.

Would you believe that people said the exact same thing about D3 back in late 2011/ early 2012, before 30+ million units got sold?

Furthermore, Max Schaefer, Erich Schaefer, and David Brevik always planned to add more multiplayer, mmo-like elements to Diablo. You can go watch the interviews with them from nearly 20 years ago. If Blizzard North were still a thing, you’d be getting online multiplayer Diablo. With current Blizzard, you’re getting online multiplayer Diablo. There was never a future for this game in which this would be different.

I agree. I don’t mind the online aspect of it, but I would love it if there was at least an option to go offline or make a private game with your friends. Idk, but I don’t really like it when I’m working hard to kill some world boss and doing really well then some rando just cleans it up out of no where. Takes away my sense of accomplishment.

I think the always online thing is to stop from cheats…

Diablo 3 is and always will be trash.

Why would cheats matter? You wouldn’t know anyway if it wasn’t online. The only reason for online only is charging customers more money. It has to be, because online only is much more expensive for Blizzard than doing offline only yet they choose this path anyway.

I think there should be an offline version with no option to play online with offline characters. That would make both crowds happy.

Obviously people that want offline only agree that those characters should only be used for offline only, that goes without saying. However that is not an option, because… money.

Not to argue against my own point; but… There would still be a lot of unhappy people that argue to why they can’t swap their characters between modes. Either way, this topic doesn’t bother me because idm the always online. It’s also a pointless conversation because Blizzard specifically wants this to be an always online, live service MMO-esque version of Diablo. I’m whatever about it.

Perhaps you are right, and we both agree Diablo will never change, it’s always online until the Internet no longer exists.

Or private parties, or just have some sort of system that can check for cheats and block those users. Lot’s of options, but instead they went with online only and just cut off so many fun options.

I mean… Diablo 2 (Original D2) did it right with closed Bnet and open Bnet for those who wanted to mod the game with their friends… every Diablo since than has been a flop in my opinion… D2R is OK for what it is. This game doesn’t even do anything new, has the same exact systems as D3 if you look at it from the side.

I do really wish I could just play offline. I like playing arpg’s on mute while I listen to podcasts and sip bourbon.

Sucks that I have to deal with a login queue and disconnects…

edit: Oh, and rubberbanding
