This week, I spent over 200k obducite trying to triple crit life on my Banished Lord’s Talisman. Still haven’t done it.
Trying to craft a Shako with CDR GA. Crafted 5 Shakos thus far and every single one of them has had an armor GA. Hundreds (maybe thousands?) of Duriel + Andariel kills deep and I still haven’t seen a Shako drop organically, so trading for runes is the only way I can “target farm” it. Diablo.trade isn’t very fun at all.
Found a triple GA polearm with perfect stats on it for an evade build. Went 16 tempers (8, scroll, 8 again) and could not get Eagle Spirit Hall potency on it. Didn’t even make it to the second temper because I couldn’t roll the first. Bricked the only good triple GA I’ve seen all season.
I know you’re trying to increase the time players engage with the season, but layer upon layer of RNG just makes the game feel oppressive and unfun. When every single activity I take part in is just a funnel leading toward more RNG with some NPC in town, it feels really, really bad because in the end, there’s a 99% chance that I’m just wasting my time.

Honestly, if they get rid of tempering limit and have global masterworking increase 5% each time (instead of 25% to one affix), I would be absolutely on-board with that. And if they want to have a soft limit upgrade (similar to paragon) after max masterwork, that would be dope af.
Master working and tempering really do feel terrible. Every time I find a potentially awesome item in the game I immediately dread the thought of trying to upgrade it. What kind of sick, twisted system is that?
When the vast majority of player power comes from crappy RNG systems at the blacksmith, that’s a huge problem. They need to lean into the combat. The combat is great. It feels good to kill things. That should be their focus.
Make us grind vast quantities of materials by killing things and then give us control over how we use those materials to upgrade our gear in specific, controllable ways. I would rather grind materials for 10-20 hours and have a 100% chance to upgrade my gear than grind for 1-2 hours and have a 10% chance to upgrade it.

200k and fail? Ooof… I gave up triple crit long ago. Double is good and I agree this system needs a little bit tweak.
As a SB even if i dont have any masterwork at all iam oneshotting everything until pit 130 atm…so i wont botter with this broken system this season!
tempering and master working is not the real problem: it’s too many affixes being luck-dependent.
if we could choose to focus on what tempering and affix master working we need, things could be better…

That’s the issue with mixing MMO systems into a seasonal ARPG. They’re doing everything to slow players down, but not everyone has endless hours to grind each season. When players keep hitting the same bottlenecks week after week with no progress, they’ll naturally move on to other games. They really need to decide if they want this to be an MMO or an ARPG—MMO-ARPG just isn’t working so far.

Masterworking and tempering are trash, it’s all rng with no control over it. What should happen is:
Tempering - Remains as is, but with a tweak. No longer has a limit to how often it can be tempered, but now costs materials and gold. Gold costs increase with the number of tempers up to a limit where it will stay there like enchanting right now.
Masterworking - I thought of two different methods to improve it.
- You can increase material and gold costs to improve your odds of targeting a specific affix. More materials and gold you spend the better your odds with 100% chance being super expensive.
- You can reset back down to 4/12 or 8/12 to keep your last masterwork crit for an increased gold cost (like 10M gold to go down to 4/12 and 20M to go down to 8/12), so that you can resume from that point to try the next masterwork crit for the desired affix.
These changes gives more control to the players, which players like, but the increased material and gold costs means that people have to play more to afford everything, which Blizzard likes. Easy fixes everyone wins.

Pretty much similar to my experience.
I’ve bricked more items this season than last despite having access to magnitudes of restoration scrolls. Tempering RNG is stupid and should not be in the game. I think you should be able to pick the temper you want but the % can be RNG and you test your luck getting a high roll.
Masterworking has always been very tedious, last season I pretty much triple critted majority of my items but this season for some reason I have very little obduscite so I’m going to settle for the doubles and at this point even that seems to be hard.

Well you see, in previous Campfire Chats the Diablo IV Team, of their own words, promised to dial back the amount of RNG in the game.
So naturally whenever this team promises something, like less RNG or real Class Balancing, they always and I mean ALWAYS immediately go back on their word.
In this case they promised less RNG factors, and then added an almost infinite amount of layered rng over more layered rng over more layered rng.
They promised balance, then immediately created a class 1,000,000,000,000,000x stronger than any other, and absolutely refuse to either acknowledge or change it.
So just remember, they can bold face lie to your face at any point of their choosing. They can promise whatever they want and not only not follow through, but do the exact opposite.
And the reason why they can do this is because we, the community, allow them to with zero consequence.
Coming up soon, Pay To Win options within the game itself. Because, they swore Pay To Win would never enter the game, so naturally adding Pay To Win is exactly what they’ll do next.

and that’s why i didn’t buy expansion, waited to see what crap they will cook up
Add another frustration to the list. Never had a problem with this in D2. But gee whiz, there’s just too much here. Part of my likes the system in concept, but the rng is just too much. It’s hard enough to find a workable ancestral, just to much it up during tempering or giving up getting the affixes you want boosted during masterworking. I’m seriously considering hopping out until something is done to alleviate the headache. And, I’m retired. I have all the time in the world.

I like the idea of tempering as it really enables build-defining gear beyond what was in the previous systems, but by no means is it well implemented or the only solution to that issue.
I sort of don’t like the idea of not having masterwork crits, as it can sometimes make up for a bad temper roll on gear that is otherwise an upgrade, but if tempering was improved also I could get behind this. As it is now, either let us pick that third crit (so the RNG goes down to 1/16 and 1/25) or let us pick each crit we want to un-do, at a cost (and lose 4 levels at the same time) since, under the current system, there isn’t an order saved to their result, and Blizzard would probably take the laziest possible way to implement that and just lock all our stuff as legacy again.
You said that now but later on will hate the grind all because the activity isn’t interesting. Just take Sparks grinding from previous seasons. Guaranteed Sparks for grinding out rep. Yet people still hate doing it.
And thats the target of Blizzard to keep you playing.
RNG is a bit out of control in the game; is what it is I guess. A few things can be removed like “health ever 5 seconds” which no one wants. ect…
RNG is fun in some capactiy.
D4’s upgrading rng? not fun & honestly I’d quit before chasing it and getting nothing for 2 days straight.
Unfortunately they are unlikely to change it because most people ranted and raved about how great S4 was. Although I suspect that’s because they like the power boost not so much the RNG.
rng makes game unfun? Am I reading this right?
Game is on easy mode as is. Let’s tune it up to a harder difficulty and make rng for items harder to obtain. Most people have quit the season already due to ease of item drops.
if you really farmed obducite the whole week just to get a triple crit then you deserve your fail
it’s a game guys
