All quiet on the dev front

They are as quiet as always. Imagine they answer every thread where ppl ask why Blizz does what. The need to get 12874827641 CMs if they want to do this. They simply stay quiet ppl make fun of them and the possibility that they are for whatever reason are unable to make a good game then the next patch hits and every starts again.

i’ve been harping on the no armory for way too long now lol. until recently, they seemed allergic to even mentioning anything D3 had that D4 doesn’t. yea, i’m sure it’s more “complex” with the (arguably crazy) way that towns are loaded when in-game, but cmon. you have one of the biggest (if not the biggest) dev teams at blizzard. and yea, they have to prioritize certain things first. still, though. the armory has been in D3 for like at least 2 years. no one thought during D4 dev “golly gee, this is really convenient. we should put it in D4!” oh wait…they also had the intention of us making new characters because respecing would become to costly. that might have gone over well in the D2 days (didn’t play the franchise back then so i legit don’t know), but this is a completely new age of gaming. players still want to grind. see…any other Arpg to confirm that. BUT, not for friggin respecing. and part of that comes from D3 where there was 0 friction to do so.

Dude this is a Blizzard problem. They did the exact same crap with StarCraft II on launch. No chat lobbies, no skins, etc.

What’s happening is someone at a high level is making bad decisions. Now the Game Director might not be the person who’s responsible for things like that, D4 had gone through multiple D4 game directors and this last one might be cleaning up the messes of the previous ones. Kind of like politics, the elected party has to clean up the mess the ousted party left even though it’s not entirely their fault that the mess exists to begin with.

This won’t get better until Blizzard’s C-Suite gets restructured and someone sits the game director down and makes them explain, in detail, with documentation on how they’re going to avoid constant, failed reworks in the future.

P.S. they pulled similar bad general decision making with Ovwerwatch 2. A product that basically “sold” itself…and they bungled it. Never mind the constant scrapped IPs and games, etc. It’s just a clown show when it comes to Blizzard’s C-Suite.

That’s not completely true most of the reasons why we have had such drastic change is cause the community didn’t like the game we were givin it was not cause it was unfinished the game was for the most part finished to the vision the devs had for the game

Thankfully they post on Twitter, a platform for incels, washed up celebrities, OnlyFans fishing, and that guy that was going to save those kids in a cave and really really likes Taylor Swift or something.

I know that when I want to inform my target audience and clients of something, I randomly post on a blog on my old MySpace page.

I’ll just say D2 was a product of its time, and judging by the amount of players in D2R today, it has not aged well at all. I loved the game, it was genre defining back in the day, it set a new standard, and it paved the way for all the ARPG’s that have come after it, there’s no question. The times have changed though, the community has changed, those same people who loved D2 back in the day have less time to play video games today, so the formula has to follow suit.

Also for reference Diablo 3 has had the Armory since Mar 21, 2017.

Oh yes, I agree, sorry I should reiterate the point. There are base game features we were never given, because the game wasn’t finished when it launched. I’m not saying the itemization rework, or certain endgame content should’ve been in since day 1, that’s more a tweaking due to the the expectations of the players.

However when you change team captains multiple times throughout the development process, along with most of the staff, it’s no surprise we got the game in the current state its’ in. As I said, an extra year bare minimum in development, and the release date closer to today for the base product would’ve done them more good then harm.

Youre all probably right. It will be an info dump on 10/3 of “here is what we changed from the ptr feedback. Take it or leave it”. Just unfortunate that updates are so few and far between.

Hyperbole and insults aside, i do miss the new seasonal goofy mechanics. Even the barebones season 1 with the hearts was a fun little sidetrack. Vampires were cool. Grew to love the little senechal. Then its been hey heres a total change to loot. Boom season (oh and an elixir and mindcage). Then season 5. I was very happyish with the final iteration of IH, i think that mode can be iterated on for a lot more fun. But along side that it was the same o same o boss rotations and GA hunting. Even for me, someone whos hopelessly addicted to this game, the same grind is starting to wear thin.

Lol so true, for a stat squish it’s weird I’m doing more damage than before … D4 balance team ftw. Capping Paragon boards to 5 wasn’t enough, guess its time for just a starter board then they might be able to balance the game somewhat

be very very quiet i’m hunting devvits…

Agreed, and I wouldn’t ask for a weekly update, but maybe a month, month and a half update. Seasons last 3 months on average, and we typically get hotfixes, a mid-season patch, and then radio silence until the latest live stream a week prior to the next major patch.

The worst is the announcement for the announcement of the livestreams. ‘There will be an announcement on this date, to give you the actual date of when we’re going to have the livestream to discuss all the changes.’ Gee… thanks.

They did say Season 6 will have its’ own seasonal gimmick. So it sounds like things are getting back on track with the expansion.

I guess they are working hard to prepare expansion launch. It can be quite hard to integrate into current Diablo engine.

I get that. One would just hope that the community team would…communicate.

quite frankly there is not much to say anyways

like they arent even trying to hold back on contents to create suspense, theres just…not much content lol

For the moment I would say there’s not much else to talk about except for the changes coming due to the PTR. However they could go into more details about some of new stuff coming in the expansion. I can understand not wanting to ‘spoil’ anything, but I’d argue people who want to go in blind will just ignore it anyway.

I’d like to know more about the Undercity dungeon for example. I don’t need the lore, I just want to know what kind of rewards we can expect. Were there any major changes to the Hordes? We couldn’t test those at all during the PTR. How about the skill trees for the mercs? Any number of things they could go over before launch.

I’d also be all for a mid-season update to what’s currently working, what they’re thinking of changing next season, etc. (not the seasonal gimmick of course that’s fine to leave out) Doesn’t necessarily have to be concrete, just an idea of what’s going on is all. What I think would also be very useful is a list of ‘known problems’ that has a sticky at the top of the Bug Forums, or even here. So the player base at least knows they are aware of certain bugs that may have been in since launch. They did this in the PTR forums, they could easily do it here.

It’s the small things as well as the big things of keeping your community in the loop.

The game is in the hands of weak developers who will never give us anything more than what we already have.

If you want to understand the reasons for this, look at Glassdoor and search for Blizzard, these useless people have a different concern.

don’t forget the little added detail of glyphs now going to lvl 100 and having hundreds of percentage damage buffs. i suspect that is one of the key culprits in all those massive dps numbers on the ptr. it’s odd, though. i rarely ever think damage needs to be nerfed. but, some of those glyphs…damn.

Fletcher responded to somebody on Twitter yesterday to say that we’ll get the date for the Campfire Chat covering PTR and S6 next week, with the chat itself being “closer to launch”. I think we’re going to get the CC the week before launch. That’s cutting it real close, but it looks like that’s probably the plan. :+1:
