The numbers put out by Blizzard themselves should say it all.
Only 6,236 players have hit 100 in standard
Only 163 players have hit 100 in hardcore
These numbers direct from Diablo’s twitter, and shows they sold a ton of copies but lost most their player base. It seems most the crowd fell into where my friends and I did, around level 50-60 got bored, and saw D4 for what it is a shallow game and uninstalled.
The biggest thing that will affect change is the miss opportunity for reoccurring revenue that Blizz wanted to support the live service. Honestly if the game had the in-depth builds, itemization, and true endgame (GTFO level scaling), trading and actual community I would be happy to buy MTX and support the game.
I think it will show and without the RR, blizz will either fix the game, or it will go the way of overwatch 2.

is it some ppl’s first arpg or something.
it’s supposed to be excruciatingly slow getting to 100. there should be even less considering its barely ~1week old on its first iteration imo.
youre supposed to be proud of 90 and call your mom about it type of deal

Or those numbers show that people also have work, RL stuff and not everyone is sweating to level 100 within the first 7-9 days.
Also it literally has been one week of the normal release and they already did hotfixes, balance patches and so on. So yeah, I don’t expect them to communicate with raging gamers every single day.

I feel you but I’m still enjoying the game. We’ve just had the luxury of playing ARPGs that have added layers of QOL and supplemental end game features that we all of a sudden expect developers to pack in an extra 7 years of development into the launch version of a game.

Those numbers really only reflect how many people used exp exploits. They don’t say much about retention at all. My highest is 82 despite having ~150 hrs. Most people can’t have 150 hrs at this point in the game.

Lmao off hard facts right here dead game everyone quit xD
You realise Blizzard have the data right?

Considering I have a life outside of games but I’ve still dedicated almost the maximum amount of hours with my possible free time included sneaking in some game time I most likely shouldn’t do,
I’m at 82. I still have ages to go.
What this should teach us is that no life nerds are actually a small portion of the population

The game has been out less than a week. I think you are overestimating the proportion of sweaties. The game is most likely driven by average gamers that play less than 5-6 hours a week.
People got sh-t to do.

I do not see any relation in the number of copies sold and the number of 100 levels reached.

There shouldn’t be any level 100s yet.

It is not a dead game: however, the primary player that I group up with has quit (or at least temporarily suspended playing) D4 due to a nerf of his preferred build, limited build diversity of “efficient builds”, and repetitive gameplay.

Yikes… the lack of self-awareness in this post is awe-inspiring. Not every gamer is intent on blowing through the game as quickly as possible and gets bored easily. The game’s depth is based on the player and if you can’t find something worthwhile to keep you interested it’s less about the game and more about you.

time to find a new xp partner homie. if he ditched for a couple out-of-season nerfs it’s not looking great buddy’s gonna ditch at every wind gust.

This isn’t Diablo 3 where you can get to max level in less than 3 hours. I have been playing several hours a day and still not even at level 90.

idk man, I am trying to get as much time in as I can, and am only lvl 50. Still enjoying it though and having fun.
Not sure players hitting 100 is a good indicator for player retention.

Not at all, the numbers of players who cannot get enough of D4 shows. Its insane that out of 8 million+ players that only a fraction has made it to what blizz calls end game.
If the game was great as it should of been so many more people would be playing non-stop. But I think if we had the amount of players that are 40-60 it would be shocking and if we could have the activity amongst those which I guarantee is low.

That is a mischaracterization. That player survived a decade of D3 build nerfs.

kinda disagree, with all facts that we know about end-game it’s starts when you reach WT4.

Fortunately for Blizzard their revenue does not depend on the zoomer 18hrs of game time per day crowd

Not everyone is a no lifer who rushers to the end and comes to the forum to complain that they no longer have anything to do.
