11+ Million Gold To Respec Paragon? Are you kidding?

This is an estimated cost based on the recent Diablo IV Into The Endgame video, where a paragon board tile was selected, illustrating a 53,666 cost to refund a single tile.

How does this improve the player experience of the game? How does this allow the player to toy around with different builds (which involve restructuring both paragon and skills) with any ease?

There are plenty of ways to counter inflation with other mechanisms that don’t negatively impact a player’s ability to experience the game and customise their experience. This would make future “loadouts” a very challenging implementation, which is a feature Rod Fergusson has Tweeted would “not be in at launch”.

*“I need to roll a new character now as farming the gold to respecialise talents and paragon is similar to making a new character” *

“I’m not interested in farming for X hours or making a new character to try a new build, I have now lost interest in the game”

You could go on and on with the potentialities of different players’ potential reactions.

You have from 1-50 to respec your skills for low cost at least. They should increase the gold cost even further IMO since they nerfed it and you can respec a few points if you want to now.

People need to get of the mentality they need to respec everything for every single situation.

So 50-100 you are meant to stick to a path that you should fully understand and be committed to? People don’t have the time for that rigidity, it doesn’t improve the player experience.

The only “pro” is countering inflation, or perhaps incentivising players to stick it out and try a build a bit longer. An easy fix is a timer-based cost, within X period, you can respecialise X times for a low cost, which increases exponentially, then it resets.

Also, don’t use mechanics that shape the player experience and flexibility to play the game in different ways as counters to inflation. Leave that for static things which may impact power but not how you get to play (such as a gem).

Read your paragon boards and plan your path? You can respec a few nodes at a time for low cost if you need to.

It’s not about respecing for every situation, it’s about being able to respec if you want to, because why not? Why should the player who plays 3 hours a week, not wake up one morning and say, “I want to try X build which I’ve collected a few items for, but I would have to use 2.5 of my 3 hours to make that happen”

This sort of cost will incentivise the gold seller RMT trade, which means more bots in the shared open world we all have to be in.

Everything tradable in this game will incentivize RMT.

Yes, but high costs in the millions of gold even more so than having to spend 100 gold on something little.

I agree with the respeccing cost being terrible. There is no reason ever to not let people respec. Trying to artificially elongate game play with stupid design is typical though.

Because this game isn’t for the guy who plays three hours a week. They already made a game for people like you, it’s called Diablo Immortal and it can be played on your phone. It will be perfect for you.

I expect the gold seller sites are sitting there right now gleefully calculating their profits on selling millions of gold at a time, as they scan websites for stolen CC info to buy copies of game for free.

Can’t wait to share my world with only bots!

The guy playing 3 hours a week isn’t even going to be able to find gear to support trying out new specs.

You say all this and have no clue how much gold you get in dungeons. I was getting 30k plus per dungeon run in the beta, stop being so whiny.

HOT TAKE: Games should not be made around a 3hr a week player.

If gold is as easy to acquire as it is in D3, 11 million is pocket change.

No. Not even pocket change. Change you find between the couch cushions.

No, they shouldn’t. But it was just an example.

11 million gold probably won’t be that hard to get at the higher levels.

Yep…

Tbh, in endgame the minimum respec cost should be like 25% of the max, so respeccing 1 node still has a meaningful cost.

The goal is not to counter inflation, the goal is to prevent constant respecs.

This exactly.

Respec cost should not make it impossible to respec, not at all, but it should make the above impossible.

Yes, and that will be very possible according to the devs.

They should really make gold untradeable.
Alternatively, maybe they could “flag” gold in some way, so only gold you found yourself, can be used to pay for the respecs

Well, it should, but that player probably should not expect to respec every week.
Nor should they need to, considering they only played 3 hours.

It’s possible, but you also need to consider that the people who don’t have the time to grind their own gold will likely be working an actual job that pays actual money - and will have the money to RMT buy the gold instead of spending the time playing for the gold - so again the price just encourages bots to set up shop to cater to them.
