Wizard Buff Proposal

Teleport already casts WoF: Calamity. But no question reversal is TERRIBLE. I like the idea of casting a spell where you were, like Energy Twister. Call the rune “Collapse” or something. Would read like this:

**Collapse**: casting teleport leaves a low-power energy twister at your location.

Teleport casting ET would interact with the ET bracers and pull all the mobs to where you teleported from, so you can get range or pull everything closer.

It seems like you guys like my Winter Flurry idea; I think it would have to be 25-33% chilled and 200% frozen, it can’t just be outright better than Furnace…at everything. It all depends on what the Mathew gives us now, though. Who knows if he is even listening.

I hope so. Looking at the Wiz legendaries, it hit me just how much they suck in comparison to other classes.

For example: I usually level up a barb first every season, because it’s easy to get some great multipliers for HotA, seismic slam, or rend. Like 500-800% good. This season, I’m thinking about leveling a Wiz first, so I’m scoping out the drop chances on d3planner to see what will be a good strategy.

There’s really not a good strategy, because the legendaries are bad. The best option is upgrade wands looks like (4/10 chance for damage). Orbs are bad (3/12), and staffs are abysmal (1/7). And even if you luck out and get something good, the bonuses are only 200-400%. That’s not good enough to level at T4, let alone T6.

So my question is why don’t any of the following have some juice on them?

  • Jang’s envelopment
  • Light of Grace
  • Mirror Ball
  • Myken’s Ball of Hate
  • Winter Flurry
  • Maloth’s Focus
  • The Broken Staff
  • Smoldering Core
  • The Tormentor
  • Valthek’s Rebuke
  • Blackhand Key
  • Gesture of Orpheus
  • Slorak’s Madness
  • Archmage’s Vicalyke
  • Storm Crow
  • Crown of the Primus
  • Velvet Camaral

Is there any other class with so many legendaries that don’t actually give you power? Looks like I’ll have to level a barb first…again.

I think it’s widely accepted Wizards have the worse legendaries, but ES and DW are in a league of their own. I think they will have to change DW to damage of the channeled spells-only, so the focus is on the channeled spell and not what ES is doing. That will fix both legendaries, but…that’s a 320% multiplier gone. At this point, Hydra and Meteor builds are non-viable now and I don’t really have a good way to fix them except upping base damage and set multipliers. Meteor base damage can come up, for sure. You could make Disintegrate builds viable by adding something to Slorak’s, and Light of Hope could do the same for Ray of Frost. No item exists for Arcane Torrent, which is problematic.

  • Meteor as I said the base damage can slightly come up, but there is already two items devoted to meteor. Grand Vizier’s multiplier could easily be up’d to 600% to fix Meteor builds.

  • Hydra builds could be fixed by upping the multiplier on Serpent Sparker or damage of Hydra itself, which is rather low.

The big difficult to solve problem is still reverse archon. The archon damage multiplier needs to be archon-spells ONLY.

Also, it would be cool if Deathwish worked with channeling Disintegration Wave. I mean, in Archon we are melee classes as Wizards. Wierd. Channelling being the best makes sense if you devote a slot to Deathwish.

I actually think that would be good, but the problem is that ES/DW are so intertwined into everything, changing them would throw the entire class out of balance. Not sure the devs want to jump on that grenade.

It’s not as hard as you think. If deathwish read:

channeled spells do 320% more damage.

That would fix deathwish. You then up the multipliers on serpent sparker, and grand vizier to fix those spells. You can then introduce new items for Ray of Frost, Disintegrate, an arcane torrent as time permits.

Reverse archon is the tricky one. That one you have to mess with the base damage of archon skills. But the beauty of this is subtle. Chantodo’s takes one to the face, no question. Chantodo’s set would lose the entire Archon damage boost. But, you can now integrate new ways to build Archon; You could build with death wish for a channeling version; or if you use manald heal and build lightning archon; you can use my proposed Winter Flurry and do a “Shatter” Archon build. The point is you could build archon in different ways. Also we’d finally benefit from area damage

I love Diablo 3. If I could code, I’d work on it for free.

I wouldn’t change anything on DW/ES, it already got a change…
We need an alternative, not to remove the choice. (BTW @Venaliter arcane torrent is a channeled so it is covered by this already.
That is why I hope for a pair that works with generators and the total damage bonus should be on par with the above.

@Poconut
Totally agree on your assessment both on leveling a wizard and the item list.
Slorak’s madness is just a kick below, maybe the effect can remain, in case your character dies but an addition is necessary.
How about rack attack raises elemental damage and armor by 20% stacks 10 times.
That would explain the laughs at death.
I will check out the rest later and propose some ideas.
Also let’s all reread Gegeforce’s instructions.

No, it’s not, bro. Again, you have to consider what’s out there. The current implementation of the Deathwish nerf is terrible. Period. It’s really badly done. 2) if Deathwish was changed to “Channeling spells do 250% to 350% damage” or whatever, this happens:

none of the channeling spells are going to be viable. Right now, channeling spells do almost no damage; it's the Arcane Power spenders ES is chucking out that does the damage; like Meteor, and Hydra.

You’d need complementary items to boost up Disintegrate, Ray of Frost and Arcane Torrent damage to competitive levels. Ray of Frost could easily get a 350% (or something) multiplier on Light of Grace, but Disintegrate and Arcane Torrent would need new legendary powers. You could easily throw a multiplier on Slorak’s, though. It was surprising that was left behind when multipliers were standardized way back when.

@Venaliter
Can you please stop arguing about everything?

The thread is meant as an idea plank, brainstorming doesn’t mean that something is set in stone.

Teleport and the Firebird’s set has been addressed in two separate threads. So no need to repost my views on them.

Storm Crow,

I could see a change towards lightning.
100% increased damage to lightning spells as long as Storm armor is active

Moonlight Ward

Changed to offer all runes of energy armor and instead of the wards dealing damage when activated they could raise armor by 30% and heal for 3% max life. Can only occur every 5 seconds.

Slorak’s madness could also get a change towards Energy Twister. Allowing the spell to split in two every second, for 3 seconds.
To clarify, one Twister will become 2,4 and lastly 8. Any damage bonus have to be regarded with the rest in mind.

Light of Grace

Besides the current, maybe a buff to all cold skills and casting blizzard every 12 seconds.
Blizzard deals total damage with each hit.

Am trying to teach you how to make your ideas more reasonable. It appears it isn’t doing any good.

Though your Storm Crow idea is solid. That's a decent item.

That"s how brainstorming works not all suggestions are Rock solid but can bring new ideas.

Suggestions are good as long as they are reasonable - and implementable. Your idea for Sloraks’, in particular, is pretty bad. Can you imagine how that would play? How would it interact with Ranslors and Twisted Sword? Why are you adding another item to ET when it has two?

Our suggestions are much more likely to be taken seriously if they’re good ones. But at the end of the day Blizzard will do what blizzard does.

This was something I had suggested a while ago back in the old forums.

But here’s some of my suggestions regarding legendary powers pertaining mostly to black hole and blizzard:

  • Existing Legendaries:

    • Death Wish: Arcane Torrent, Ray of Frost, and Disintegrate deal their full damage on cast and no longer require ramping up. Arcane Torrent, Ray of Frost, Disintegrate, and Disintegration Wave all deal xxx% more damage.

    • Etched Sigil: While channeling Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate, or Ray of Frost, the damage of your Arcane Power Spenders is increased by xx% and you also cast one of your other damaging arcane power spenders every second. Hitting an enemy with an Arcane Power Spender increases the damage of Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate, or Ray of Frost by xxx% for 10 seconds.

    • Halo of Arlyse: Your Ice Armor now reduces damage by 50-60% and automatically casts Frost Nova whenever you take 10% of your Life in damage.

    • Jang’s Evelope: Enemies damaged by Black Hole are now slowed by 60-80%. Black Hole now Deals xxx% more damage and reaches five more yards.

  • Propose legendary powers:

    • Legendary Power: Enemies hit by blizzard takes XX% more damage from you, blizzard deals XXX% more damage and last X seconds longer.

    • Legendary Power: Blizzard now calls forth large slabs of ice and it’s total damage is dealt over one second.

    • Legendary Power: Black Hole gains the effects of the Supermassive and Blazar runes. Black Hole deals xxx% more damage and triggers the Blazar effect twice.

    • Legendary Power: Casting Black Hole also calls down a meteor of the same element. Both Black Hole and the Meteor called down by the Black Hole deal xxx% more damage. When your Black Hole hits 5 or more enemies, increase the damage by xxx-xxx%.

    • Legendary Power: While you have either Ice Armor, Storm Armor, or Energy Armor active, increase the damage of your ice, lightning, or arcane skills by xxx%.

Channeling ideas and some other stuff:

Hergbrash’s Bindings:
Your Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate and Ray of Frost no longer ramp up their damage, attack 100% faster and have their resource costs reduced by 75-85%.

Slorak’s Madness:
Disintegrate gains the Chaos Nexus rune and deals 350-450% more damage. Additional beams now deal full damage and will also fire from enemies while they are hit by the main beam. There is a chance that enemies struck by Disintegrate detonate Explosive Blast.

Snowclash (Belt)
Blizzard gains the Snowbound and Unrelenting Storm runes and deals its total damage every second. Your pickup radius increases the area of effect (up to a maximum of 35 yards).

Light of Grace:
Ray of Frost gains the Frozen Storm rune, deals 550-600% more damage and has a chance to detonate Frost Nova on targets you hit with the beam.

Jang’s Envelopment:
Black Hole gains the effect of the Event Horizon rune, deals 600% more damage and slows every target hit by 80% for 5 seconds. If you hit less than 5 enemies, Black Hole deals 750-1000% more damage.

Shrapnel: [Wand]
Arcane Torrent gains the effect of every rune except Arcane Mines and acts like the Death Blossom rune. The skill deals 600-750% increased damage, launches twice as much projectiles and attacks 50% faster. You now move to your target while channeling.

Deathwish:
While channeling Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate or Ray of Frost, your overall damage dealt is increased by 250-325%. The channeling skills benefit from this twice.

I love some of the effort that went into these, but remember we have to keep it simple. Limited programming resources.

I know… :frowning:

Lexa I think you showed a great way to get ES + Deathwish into a good spot. Because the 1 second limitation isn’t that nice.

Deathwish:
While channeling Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate or Ray of Frost, your overall damage dealt is increased by 85-125%. Your channeling skills benefit from this 3 times.

Etched Sigil:
While channeling Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate, or Ray of Frost the damage of your Arcane Power Spenders is increased by 50-100%, this counts 3 times for your channeling spells and you also cast one of your other damaging Arcane Power Spenders every second.

That shifts the power from your other spenders back to the channeling. It would in fact weaken alot of existing builds, Hydra, Meteor, Twister. But I think it would be worth it. Cause balancing would now be easier.

Agree with your Hergbrash’s Bindings suggestion, but not sure about no ramp up time anymore.

But now I will go wild if suggestions to my most beloved skills. The goal should be in the future to make more runes desirable with legendaries, that not only increase the damage but also change the playstyle.

Arcane Orb
Bracers: "The explosion radius of Arcane Orb is increased by 25-35%, and you take 35% less damage after casting a Signature spell for 8 seconds.

The damage of all the other Arcane Orb runes needs to be doubled. And here are Weapon Items for each rune.

Weapon: Sparks damage is increased by 30-45% for every enemy hit with your last Spark. While hitting less than 5 enemies Sparks damage is increased by 300%.

Weapon: Scorchs burn effect is increased by 400% and the explosion spreads five splashes, that are five meter setting the ground to burn randomly.

Weapon: Arcane Orbit now produces every second two Arcane Orbs swirling around you and deals 300-350% more damage.

Next is Arcane Torrent

Wand: While casting/selecting Death Blossom grants you also the effect of Arcane Mines and Cascade. The damage of Arcane Torrent is increased by 600-800% but you also take 30% more damage. *Imagine a Wizard going insane, teleporting in a big group of demons causing havoc, but also hurting himself.

Thread needs still attention.

To me it seems there are only 2 ways to play wizard now, Archon or channeling. I can’t say i’m happy with their fix to channeling items.

Personally i rather have
Deathwish:
Your channeling skills deal X% increased damage.

Etched Sigil:
While channeling Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate or Ray of Frost you also cast one of your other damaging Arcane Power Spenders every second with Y% increased damage.

This way only the spells cast from channeling with the sigil will gain the buff.

Mantle of Channeling change revered, 25% isn’t a problem.

I played a damn lot FO this Season and I figured to make FO competitive it needs at least a 10x multiplier. To achieve this goal I had two legendary Ideas, that are similiar in the game allready. FO should benefit you more if you can enemies from further away. Frozen Orbs Damage is mostly done by it’s explosion.

  1. On Weapon or Orb.
For every 5 yards your Arcane Orb travels it deals 75-100% more damage and it’s radius increases by 1 yards.

  2. Bracers:
Your Arcane Orb now explodes on impact with an Elite and deals 100% more damage if it does. After hitting an Elite or at least 5 mobs gain 60% damage reduction for 8 seconds.

But now to some legendary power increases for the upcoming 2.6.10 or 2.7 patch.

Fragment of Destiny: "Spectral Blade attacks 50% faster and deals 600-800% more damage.

Magic Missile
Mirror Ball: "Magic Missile fires 1-2 extra missiles and it’s damage is increased by 600%.

The Shame of Delsere: "Your Signature Spells attack 50% faster, deal 150% more damage and restore 9-12 Arcane Power.

Wand of Woh: The damage of EB is increased by 600-800% and 3 additional blasts are triggered after casting EB.

Sloraks Madness: Increases the damage of Disintegrate by 600-800% and you gain the runes Volatality and Chaos Nexus.
or
Slowly your life force (500-99.999 life per second) is sucked up while channeling, but also increases your disintegrate damage by 2000%

What an hilarious legendary Power. :DDD

That are the changes I would like to see happen, soon TM. None of the mentioned skill above would be made high GR viable, but they would be suited for T16 and Bountys.

Imo, Fragment of Destiny should benefit all of the Wizard’s primary skills instead of just spectral blade.
