Why is the amazon so ungodly ugly?

This is ideal Assassin for me. Perfect redesign of her face.

Why? I mean, she looks pretty hot already. Your edit makes her look like some heavily plastic surgeried korean supermodel. And the eyes are way too close to each other.

I am guessing you did not see the Act I NPC models on wowhead? Akara and Kayesha look pretty hot.

Sure they do. Skylanders was full of good looking female characters. But that game had a much more cartoony style.

I’d say both are equally important. However, we KNEW what the characters’ faces looked like, they were not vague pixels. For starters, the campfire selection screen? That showed a 3D render of the characters that is far bigger and detailed? And don’t forget all the promo art that was in magazines and much of it made it into the manual and back of the box too? This was, see, a time that games actually came on disks, in paper boxes, with printed manuals?
I get that many people are unnecessarily mean towards the redesigns - I feel the picture they used for the Amazon on the website indeed looks unfortunate, but seeing the model on the character loading screen in-game (alpha gameplay videos) I don’t see her being that wrong. And those people saying the Sorcerer and Assassin have “male face” need their eyes examined. And I guess the people saying “woman cannot be sexy anymore” never noticed Charsi’s epic boobs on the NPC models on wowhead, or how Andariel wears little but nipple rings, or checked the corrupted rogue and lacuni enemies?
However this does not mean that you can just disregard all their complaints, as some of them actually have valid points. I feel the Amazon has a too large chin, that should be changed.

Have you looked at the rogues (both the followers and the corrupted enemies)? How are they not scantly clad? And how about Andariel or the lacuni in Act II? They are literally topless. How can you say they are censoring the game when they are actually keeping nudity from the original in the game? Or do you suffer from selective vision?

Thanks for the passive aggressive insult at the end there. That comment was taken out of context. I was replying to someone else who said “Attacking modern artistic choices in line with modern society does not always work well.”

The whole conversation was about changing the game from its original for things like THIS WHOLE THREAD about the Amazon.

You took my quote to someone else, in reference to changing artistic styles for the current times, and applied it to examples in the game that were not part of the conversation.

I would say you are the one with selective vision.

The new amazon is probably closer to a real female warrior than the original one with a supermodel body. With that being said, that’s still original so this is arguably a diversion from the original art. More logical and uglier, but wouldn’t say it doesn’t fit the picture, probably it does fit better than the original. I think it’s a valid point to say the model should be true to the original in higher definition, what I would say they should make different is to make the model look like 25 years old person rather than 40 (or maybe 45) years old female warrior, because the original was sure a lot younger by the appearance.

This topic is rather trivial, by the way. Differences in the appearance or aesthetics is pretty much out the window once we actually play the game. There won’t be any visible face once helmet is worn, there won’t be any close-up face to face dialogues, everyone will play their character from a far top down isometric view, never check their character’s pretty face, but rather collect gear or runes.

No, it’s not. It’s the most popular topic everywhere.

The question is how many of us are going to play it for free = without buying. Blizz can decide this by fixing/not fixing their ugly D2R characters.

Circlets. There are circlets in Diablo 2. They are very popular for amazon btw (Griffon’s).

There IS a zoom feature now. Also there is an entire new character selection screen! Please check alpha gameplay before posting.

I like to use zoom a lot. Now we have a lot of different skins for different armors. Also I’ve seen every streamer using zoom a lot too during alpha. So saying that “everyone will just ignore new game features” is incorrect.

It IS trivial, as the game is about by design to collect gear and deep character builds. RPG or character apperance are both trivial features that do exist, but are not important part of it unless people make them to be so, by their logic or to create a reason to argue about something.

The popularity of the topic simply means it is something people like to visit or talk about not necessarily something important or educational. If that would be the case then documentaries and science would be the most visited channels on Youtube not memes and mainstream music clips.

If such features really deter you from playing this game, then you are looking for a satisfaction in something that won’t provide it. There are actual RPGs where you can customise the apperance and even the voice of the character. This game isn’t and never was designed tfor the purpose to zoom in and watch your character in awe how beautiful and sexy it is.

My opinion is what it is, once and if the game is played the way it is intended, none of the appearances matter anymore. If you play the game to zoom at your character then that is your prerogative, you play your game but don’t expect the developer to cater for trivial stuff that has nothing to do with the core design.

I’m not sure how much time and resources it take for them to change the looks for zoomers, but I would surely see those efforts to be invested at more important things, such as antibot and hack measures.

I don’t know how old you are, but many of us here grew up with the 8-bit generation of gaming. During that time, we would read through the instruction manual, absorbing all the artwork to fuel our imaginations. It supplemented what was missing graphically. We also read the gaming magazines and absorbed the artwork there.

When many from my generation play D2:R, what we see on the character selection screen is going to fuel what we think we are controlling in the game, whether we want it to or not.

I want that character selection screen to draw me in, so I take a vested interest in that characters adventure. What I don’t want is to think I’m about to take on the denizens of hell with a 40 year old Karen.

Oh, god, another reddit’s dude talking about REALISM in UNREALISTIC game with demons and angels…

Because of people like you, the culture of cinema and games now looks like a stupid trash!

Maybe the Cow Level should be deleted as well? Or should the funny dwarfs (Fetishes) in Act III be deleted? Or should we delete all humorous dialogue from D2?

You want a realistic stuff? Please go outside and don’t touch our favorite game! I’m already fed up with these ugly female characters, but REMASTER hasn’t even release yet.

People want to talk about realistic.

If ninja/kungfu must be Asian, then why is Paladin a Sub Sahara looking African?

If your answer to Paladin question is, because the paladin in D2 was alway dark skin and originated from a warm topical style region in Santuary. Well, thats why Assasin ain’t Asian, becuase the region they came from is sort of East European/Russian like with little sun, hence the look, accent & pale skin.

Also, in Medieval times, the average lifespin was like 45 or so. You can be enlisted at 15 or so. Joan of Arc led the French at 17. Alexander the great started one of history greatest conquest world at age 20, At 30 shortly before his death, he had conquerered much of the greek “known world”.

Nepolean was barely 20 when he started his military career, He took French throne at 35.

The idea of 40+ years old veterans (let alone the 60+ granny zon) in frontline battlefield being common is pure Hollywood fantasy played by actors older than the roles they played.

I played both D1 and D2 as a child, and once me and my friends went high level online we all dived into character building and collecting gear. Then we played LoD right away online as a team and progressed together after school.

We never once cared about the artwork looked like, we wanted to push and become stronger better at killing. We never once stopped, removed our headpiece and armor and examined how well the pixels have been constructed to resemble a barbarian or a sorceress presented by Blizzard North’s artists. I believe this whole ugliness people rave about is just used as a ground to have something to argue about because these people are bored and got nothing better to do.

Whilst I do agree all the artwork should be brought as close to the original as possible, I really don’t think it’s as detrimental as these classes look like at the moment and in my opinion, they resemble realistic appearance more than the original artwork at the same time.

Yes, and the global warming is also accuring because of me, and the universe is getting absorbed by a supermassive black hole, that’s also my doing. I do what I want as long as it complies with Blizzard’s code of conduct, you haven’t got the jusrisdiction to tell what I can say or do. If I want to contradict your opinion or others’ I will do so, and I don’t care how you dislike it.

I have the same right to have an opinion about the game or it’s development as you or others. If my opinion is that the amazon currently looks more realistic then so it is, doesn’t mean it’s going to be a bad game because some people believe that a member of a mythical fierce female warrior clan looks more realistsic as the current amazon rather than the supermodel original.

You people are digging into extremes. Just because I mentioned the term “realistic”, you then go all the way to the end of it and say “then demons shouldn’t exist in reality, then amazons shouldn’t exist” blah blah blah. Just confirms that there is no way to have a decent conversation with any of you. Realism can exist within a loop of imagination, meaning, an Amazon can be made to closer resemble an actual Amazon drawn from the myths.

I have no problem with the current Amazon, but also don’t blame anybody who wants it to closer resemble the original artwork as it is a valid request.

You do not care about how the character looks, we got it. We can respect that.

But don’t insult people that do, & don’t make false strawman statement.

In case of the Paladin, I would say it’s rather just Blizzard’s decision to make the Paladin afrikan origin (not as in afrikan from game lore, I mean the reality background). I doubt there is anything special lore-wise to it. They just made him black. There is no need to overthink its origin, just make your character and play.

This is exactly what I meant when I said there is no way to have a proper conversation with these people. As soon as I share my opinion, they attack and call my 15 years old. Probably because you share that level of mentality.

Have you consider, maybe its you that is acting like 15 years old?

You seems to lack self awareness. Continously insult others for diagreeing with you & turn around & play the victim when called out.

Right back at you, calling me a kid for sharing my opinion. You can insult freely, and I have to accept, nice of you.

I never said it applied to everybody who doesn’t like the current Amazon, but surely it does to some.

You started calling me a 15 years old, I only shared my opinion prior.

Another way to see it: this topic (characters look in remaster) grabs most of the criticism because there is not much else to criticize.

On the Amazon look precisely, since there was a blue post saying it will be “iterated”, then I guess it will be changed. If not there will be even more criticism for not doing something they said they would do.

Did you bother reading what you posted?
Kept insult people taht disagree with you.

I am just calling you out for what you accuse others of.

That’s the way I see it too, it’s a simpler subject to respond to than most QoL or more technical threads. Doesn’t really makes it more important or interesting.
