then play alone, we do not need to cater to people like that. play alone, play with friends if you want “all your own loot”
if you play with randoms, that’s just the way it goes, that’s diablo, you CHILDREN need to learn that.
i myself, have a group of friends i plan to play with, everything will be shared, each class will always get the best in slot if it is best for the group.
Yep, this is the OTHER obvious reason ploot is never happening.
The first being that there is very clearly way more players against ploot than for it, by a wide margin. Thats evident from literally every forum, social media site and poll. The devs have eyes and they won’t somehow ignore the majority of the fanbase for the loud minority of plooters. But plooters are entitled by nature, so they think the game will be catered to their specific needs and wants.
No need to insult. I am 31 years old. I know life is not fair. But games can be, to an extent.
Lucky for you, none of my friends plays D2. Also, if you have your team, then the optional personal loot mode won’t affect you anyhow.
i’m sorry, i just think it’s very childish to think all the loot on the ground should be yours, i’ve played diablo 2 since day 1 and it’s part of the experience.
So a MF character with 300 mf joins a lowbie group who have maybe 100 between them.
They all now get MF of 50 instead of having 300 from the high level…
seems to kill MFing in mulitplayer
i just like diablo how it is, i don’t want that part changed AT ALL… i love that part of diablo. so please, no ploot for me.
they should make it an option for each game maybe. like an option when you’re making the game… that would be ok so the people who want it have it and the people who don’t, don’t. that’s about all i can think of.
That’s true, but we are talking here about optional mode. So yeah, you would probably have worse loot from bosses in this mode. From regular monsters, in ffa it depends on who kills the monster so it is usually also the average of the mf of all players if everyone have similar damage, so this would stay roughly the same.
And as I said, I wouldn’t mind if this loot mode was overally slightly less effective than the default FFA.
Personal Loot has many ramifications that are not immediately apparent but have a massive impact on the game.
Free for all Loot encourages people to make friends and band together to gain access to stronger gear. It encourages communication and trust building and greatly makes you appreciate other players and your friends.
Personal Loot makes it easy to pass the Hell barrier to entry by allowing you to quickly join games you are too weak to provide meaningful impact to but still gain access to the strongest gear, thus devaluing the items and making their noteworthy “diablo 2 mystique” watered down.
Personal loot further devalues items and takes away from their mystique by taking away “the fish that got away feeling”. As much as it is hard to see how missing out on a great item you saw drop could possibly end up being a good thing, you need to understand human nature and the dopamine response. There is tons of psychology involved in games that you miss on a surface level, one of those is missing out on a rare item only to one day find it, and the feeling is that much more amazing.
Free for all loot creates immersion. The world that the characters live in is brutal, dark and unforgiving. Free for all loot is a gameplay mechanic that reinforces the world we see on screen through the players experience.
Free for all loot lengthens the games longevity. It forces you to take a step back and play easier areas for a while until you can build up the gear to try for even better gear in the harder areas. It creates a barrier to entry that must be earned. If you can join in a party with much stronger people and glean an even share of loot it takes away from that “earned” feeling. And further devalues the gear.
Bonus 6 - Free for all loot creates a shared experience. When others get to see all the loot hitting the ground and you happen to be the one to get it, There is a human expereience, some will be happy for you, others jealous and upset, some curious to ask how it rolled, or if they could trade you for it. All this interaction from simply all watching a pixel hit the ground.
It doesn’t hurt anyone, that’s the point. There’s a backwards and pointless opinion swirling around in the last few years, in gaming and elsewhere, that basically boils down to ‘it’s not enough for me to succeed, my opponent must fail’. It really does nothing but bring all ships down in the end.
Any meaningful game has an element that to succeed others must fail. That is the very nature of sports and games. And sometimes you fail and fail and fail until you succeed. And that is the greatest feeling.
This is a conversation that shouldn’t even be happening, that’s where the hate is coming from.
This is a forum for the diablo 2 remaster.
We can stop polluting the forums with trash now, thanks.
Except D2 isn’t basketball, or Quake 3, it’s you working with other people to overcome an obstacle. These are people you should be trying to strengthen.
But D2 is unique in that it reflects real life, in that some will help you, others will harm you, and nothing is handed to you. Part of what makes it amazing is that it’s part cooperative, part competitive, a lot like life in general.
So again, back to the ‘I don’t care about the other people that are helping me’. That’s the problem right there. The community would rather screw over the other people in it than, God forbid, help them instead. Like I said, I’m 100% solo in these games. I hear people saying that the community isn’t what it used to be, and I’m here to say this is how it’s always been. Garbage people means garbage community.
