RNG is one thing, it’s the itemization that is the problem.
Examine items from D2. Take Shako for instance. 7 guaranteed affixes, one has a slight variance.
Was every Shako, that dropped trash, because one rolled slightly less armor than the other?
No. When an item in D2 dropped and was for your build, you would equip it and you would only replace it, when another one drops with few points higher.
The ones where the variance in the stats mattered were very, very few.
In D3 on the other hand, where most items don’t have preset affixes, most Primals are instant scrap, because they are not properly rolled and you might as well play with just an ancient version, or… hell, sometimes even a regular version.
That’s too much RNG, on top of RNG, on top of RNG.
In the previous games you had the means to account for bad RNG. If you don’t get what you need, you amass wealth (gems, runes, uniques) and you eventually buy it.
In D3 you’re denied trading.
Since there’s not gonna be trading in D3, they should give us other means to account for bad RNG. So yes, the OP’s request is completely justified.

I see your point on that, no questions asked.
There were however items in D2 that did make a big difference on rolls for hitting break points. If you did not get that roll then it was trash, CoA was one that varied a lot.
This pertained to pk more than pvm but, it was a major park in D2. Still seems to be going on to this day.
And as far as playing with a regular version over an ancient and primal item…that’s why I’m still rocking a regular flavor of time

Tnx! Very few people do that nowadays
Crown of Ages? If so – yes. That’s one of the items where the variance mattered.
Also Spirit Shield and things like that…
But again, those were rather few in number, compared to many items where the variance did not matter.
I see on your profile you have several decent ones. Did they drop for you or did you roll them with the cube? I haven’t found a single good one since they updated them, regardless of quality.

They dropped! I actually spent time doing pub bounties which I hate, always end up starting an act and someone decides to join my act and steal my progress so I have to move to another unoccupied act…anyways, got a lump some of mats to reroll FoT amulet for an ancient to augment eventually and not a single one came of it that was comparable to the ones I’m using

Yes, a Kanai recipe
Reforge Primal Ancient item (produces a new Primal Ancient)
Requires:
The Primal Ancient item to be reforged
+3 Heroic Souls (material)
+50 Forgotten souls
And of course, salvaging Primal Ancient items should give you back 1-2 Heroic Souls (or whatever you want to call them)
I got another useless primal. So it started to make me rethink doing season. I already got the pets and the portrait frame, if I can’t get good gear, what’s the point? Might as well farm non season, at least that way I don’t get headaches from the stupid theme.
You can just say “primal”. At this point, the actual chance to get something even remotely useful is so low, you can best describe it as “Statistically Not Zero”.
If we could trade, I would say hop on and I’ll see what I have. But…that’s another can of worms entirely.
I really don’t have a problem with the drop rate as much. I believe I am averaging around one every 5 hours this season (including the 6 hours of leveling). And I am not some god tier player and never play with other people, just spent the vast majority of my time playing with speed builds.
Think about it this way, how long does it actually take you to get all 13 items BiS? Man you can do that (by playing only by yourself) in like 12 hours for the Haedrig set? Sure not great versions of them but still you have all the items your build needs, is it really that bad that there is this one thing that is an insane grind? Or not even just insane grind but just something that you hope for and not realistically expect.
What I do like though is the idea of the ones you don’t want being more useful. I really think that needs to be a thing, just more exciting than 15 souls at least. Some of the suggestions here are pretty great. I thought about it this weekend (while salvaging a useless one) that 15 souls are pointless, you get that with like 5-7 minutes of speed GR’s so what is the point? Even if you can only salvage them make them give you a ton of crafting materials, like some of all of it, even bounty materials. That way the red beam makes you excited for either a good upgrade or something to help you along.
Part of the problem is how some players get their items within a day, then turn around and expect that to be the experience every player has. This creates an expectation that players complaining about a lower drop rate are only trying to avoid doing the work. Some people have a much easier time with gearing than others, and it’s got a lot to do with how wide the range is.
Increasing the drop rate isn’t going to change that. It will just mean that the lucky players get lucky faster.
Well, that depends on luck, I guess. I’ve been playing the game since launch and have yet to see an ancient Soul Harvester. That’s a lot longer than 12 hours.
When it takes a days worth of playing to find what you need, it takes multiple for another. This is how it works, there is no “for sure” way to get your best in slot for the build YOUR wanting to make.
Someone said it took for ever to find an ancient soul harvester? Took me maybe an hour or two… but took me many days to find an ancient voo’s and I’m weeks into the WD build with still no ancient chest, shoulders, or gloves…talk about stupid rng there. I’m still searching as we speak.
As for primals…well I just finally found a useable one today, number 9 total with 8 being scrap. It was primal depth diggers for the LoD DoD build in making and it isn’t even my main WD build.
I agree with you that it is silly to blame people for not wanting to put in the time as if there is no RNG aspect to the game.
OK so by BiS I wasn’t talking about decent versions of them, just the items your build needs in general. Getting those items with all the desired affixes and good numbers takes long (as it should). But I have had multiple characters where I got all 13 items the specific ones I needed, o and the cube too, in that amount of time. Maybe I am just eternally lucky?
O and yeah maybe I am wrong about that 12ish hours, can’t remember exactly. But it is not far off.
No they don’t. You have 2 primals on your Barb in non-season and plenty of ancients. You have ZERO primals on your season DH and unless your profile is bugged you’re not even using RoRG with your GoD set…
I assume you play just like me on EU only, cause you have no characters on North America or the Asian servers…
Maybe you did overall in all seasons, but I highly doubt you got over 80 Primals with just 956 paragon and not a single caldesan in your gear with legendary gems below 90 rank in this season unless of course all you do is speed 70-80 GRs, but even than it’s highly unlikely.
I’m playing the game 3-6h a day and I found over 30 primals in this season and currently have 2 equipped in my build. I also take screenshots of every single primal I get, but that’s just me…

Got to keep the loot hunt alive. Ancients use to be the thing and then it started to rain them and the loot hunt got boring since it was so easy to gear out on GG ancients.
End game gear gotta be time consuming to get, otherwise we’d be back to the same situation we had with ancient gear being too easy to get. Then we’ll need a new tier of gear like Ultimate God Gear!
Come hither to my games please! I need that many primals to drop! I just like the look of them lol.
I remain objective and ignore trolling and people with aluminum foil hats.
for me it is the same as for Gasnick. many primals have dropped. maybe I can use a few for other sets. but 95% or even more are for sale. since i don’t play bonties, so i mostly drop them in the city for other players.
I also assume that devs are not obscured and can very well distinguish between garbage and usable stats … because almost all primals are at least with 2+ useless stats for the intended build / set. how can that be? coincidence!!!
and I’m not seeing that just now. with me what has been the same since s13. however, at that time i played with hardcore players almost all day. They also complained that nothing that could be used had been dropped for them for weeks or even months.
In addition, I played a lot of wow during my studies. and knows very well how long-term motivation is regulated there. you get upgrades there every few weeks!
I hope it is now a bit clearer how “random” is controlled in d3 ?! or not? anyway …
however, it would be fairer to explain these and many other mechanics to the players. because I cant even find EXACT information about something … in tooltips or in the spongy blue statements there is one thing and in the game it works quite differently. there are also a lot of bugs.
