To be honest, the trust levels don’t make a huge difference in terms of what we could do before (roughly equivalent to TL1 or something). However, the ability to embed screenshots and things make TL3 a nice boon for people that make guides and things.
There are some people that can’t resist a grind when it is put in front of them. TL3 will definitely be their end game. To be people with better impulse control, it won’t be a big deal.
I don’t know. I’ll probably never post a link or imbed a video or any of that, but I also like the idea of being able to if I wanted to.
As far as grinding out the requirements and such, I think some people are just in a hurry. If a person just treats these boards like they did the others, they’ll get to TL3 with no extra effort.
But to some, this is like a season start. Get to Lvl 70 (TL3) as fast as you can and then you can play the real game (the real forums).
Not really important for me mainly because I’m not going to be using it much. I’m only back checking things out to see what new changes it brings.
Back on the old forum, I was semi-active until around 2015 (which was also when I stopped playing so forum PVP sort of ended up being the end game for me before I stopped visiting completely for several years).
With that said, some of the features available now on this new software at higher trust levels, would’ve been nice back then (like being able to embed videos and have inline images). So I can see why some regulars may be “grinding on the forums” to get to TL3 (more power to them).
I like the fact that they have implemented a trust system, as I hope it will cut down on the seemingly unending “I MAKE $$$ EACH DAY WORKING FROM HOME” type spam messages you see all over the place, as well as some of the trolls. I know it won’t be completely eliminated, but anything is an improvement.
I’m not worried about trying to get to TL3, or any particular TL for that matter. I’m here to share my love of Diablo (been playing it since day 1, and still enjoy it) and hopefully interact with others of the same mindset.
Correct, I have not seen those exact posts on a D3 forum either, I was just using that as a more recent example that I see all the time. Almost without fail, the very first post is some complete and utter troll trying to get you go to their “get rich quick” scheme.
I just used that as an example of the types of spam posts that I hope the new Trust Level system will help reduce, if not eliminate.
More commonly on these forums are “Hey, check out the cool stuff that Path of Exile is doing!”-type posts. Nothing against Path of Exile (I’ve played that, too, and enjoyed it), but I’m hoping that those type of posts will be reduced.
I don’t mind a healthy comparison post, but not just a “Hey game X is cooler than Diablo” post.
For most people TL 3 is really not needed and most won’t care. The anti spam restrictions on TL 0 fall off with even casual browsing of the forums so everyone can easily get to TL 1.
Having embedded images, videos, and non Blizz links was not something we ever had before so they are not taking anything away by offering that carrot.
The people who REALLY need those feature most are the guide writers and TS/CS helper types. Most of them were manually assigned TL 3 so they can migrate and maintain their helpful posts.
Importance of Trust Level? not much importance. However, I think the entire idea is a recipe for stupid, from a book of stupid recipes. I’m going the down the soft-core, maybe, could-be, not-sure, maybe not, not really, definitely not malicious compliance route. So, with that in mind, @KrazyPhule, I’m liking the fact that you, in fact, liked the fact, that they implemented a trust system.
I also like the fact that we’ve literally not had the problem you described above in the old forum, but you in fact like that it was implemented to address/solve a problem that never existed. Now, don’t take this as a criticism because I, in fact, like the fact, that the problem never existed and we have a forum participant likes a trust system that was implemented to solve not existent problems.

Oh and I’ll be clicking like on every post above mine. I’ve already gotten a notification that I’m approaching the limit of my likes for the day. Hooray for like metering.
Happy Obligatory Liking in moderation.

Oh yes we did!!! The main General forums did not have that issue. The Tech Support, Console forums, Console Bug Report, WoW New Player, WoW CS, WoW TS, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm forums used to get walls of spam posts to gambling sites on them. Pages and pages worth!
Those forums were open to new accounts or starter accounts, which was why. They put in a Spam filter that was an AI learning type, but it was really aggressive! It used to eat posts that had images or edits, esp if it was a thread starting post. I used to have to ask for posts to be returned to me on a regular basis.
The new system helps prevent bot spam accounts across the board while still letting starter accounts get help on the forums where they have permissions to post.
General and the rest require a paid license so are not as prone to spam. That may be why you don’t think it happened. Or, you never went on the forums for Blizzard’s free games.
There was a BitCoin related replay on this new forum earlier this week. The reply was hidden because of all the “Flag as SPAM” reports. I’m sure it was removed by a human.
I knew that there would be abuse of starter accounts. Replacing the entire forum system with this trust system is some how suppose to be better than an A.I. system? I disagree. It will just create new opportunities for abuse. The old forum had issues I’m sure but this is more draconian just wrapped up in a pretty mini skirt and pink lipstick.
Level 3 requirements compel unnecessary forum use, like:
Of posts created in the last 100 days, must have read 20,000 posts (both starting posts and replies)
Sorry paid customer you can’t lurk in the forums (logged out) and have level 3
animated memes posting privs.
The wiki post and animated gif features look like the most likely initial place to be abused.
