Discovered another fabulously well-tested thing in the Hero’s Journey tonight, in Chapter I’s Zone Events task. I completed Ancient Nightmare, on Hell 3, twice tonight and this is what my Codex still looks like…
Checking in World Chat, people that did the same event on Hell II and Hell I also didn’t get contribution towards this. I’ll give it one more go at an event, to establish if it’s just not counting the events at all, or it’s a display update issue (i.e. it’s recording them, just not updating to 1/3, 2/3, 3/3) but this is very poor levels of testing.
This is part of why the idea of frequently (as in 1-2 months) updated live service games, that Blizzard are trying with Overwatch 2, and D:I, seems like the most crazy mismatch. Blizzard hurrying out content? What could possibly go wrong.
Smells an awful lot like a launch feature that wasn’t done in time so it got moved back. There’s nothing wrong with that, happens all of the time. But, one has to adapt to the new paradigm.
In this case, this feature is best done with new content, of which, the game barely has any since launch. By “content”, since Blizzard is clearly confused, we mean new dungeons, quests, monsters, etc. Not merely more checkboxes tracking things you’ve already done.
As long as it is not a test of “gameplay” for D4 I am fine with it
Filling out codex pages of various 100% bars, neither seem like good activities nor good events.
Shadowlands was delayed for like, forever and still had pretty significant launch issues, to say nothing of really bad systems (and still way too few flight paths in Bastion even now!).
Uhhh…
*Voice of Johnny Gilbert*: This. Iiiiiiiiiiis. Bugzzard!
This requires foresight. Also, see previous entry.
One thing I really, really don’t want is constant FOMO. WoW’s devs have gone hard into that and it isn’t enjoyable in the least when real life prevents me from obtaining what I really want. Make proper challenges that the player can take on whenever they’re able to or want to and you have a winner.
demolished the game yesterday. hopes for a patch did not materialize. people who are not ready to change money for pixels have nothing to do in this game.
when a donator from a twitch, for a couple of portals, knocks out more gems than I saw for 100 paragons, then I have a big question for close ones - are you all right with your head when you introduced such an imbalance?
before, I was ready to buy any game of the diablo series by pre-order, but after dying … d4, I will buy only after watching the streams, when there is an understanding that the game can be played without a credit card.
Well, that’s part of the annoyance in a lot of these tasks, i.e. they’re not granted for having already done them. For example, one of the tasks in Chapter I that will take the longest is to spend 15,000 Hilts. I know, for sure, that I’ve spent way more than this since the game started, but the task is going to take me weeks, preventing me moving to Chapter II, where I’ve already satisfied the majority of the tasks.
Weak. What’s insane to me is that they could literally hand you a free legendary crest every day and it would take you YEARS to catch up to the whales with 5 star gems costing 4k gem power and 72 copies to upgrade fully.
Ooo you mean i can get another 3 free legendary crests this month, after grinding way harder than in other games that don’t artificially cap my progress?! I should be SOOOO excited but for some reason i’m not.
That’s why it’s best to introduce this sort of feature before the relevant content was released. If this is all made retroactive at this point it doesn’t really fulfill a gameplay purpose because most of the audience has already done all of these things.
Well, given how short those battle passes are, it isn’t that much of a stretch to expect new content on release of a new season. For the price Blizzard’s charging and just how awful it feels to have to grind for something you just paid for, players are expecting, and rightfully so, the content to justify such activity in the game.
Those are regularly scheduled updates (leagues) and they aren’t tied to a battle pass. The only thing tied to those leagues are supporter packs, none of which require grinding to “earn” what you just paid for. For the purposes of this discussion it’s apples and oranges.
