Thread Conflator

Can we have an opt-in / optional Thread Conflator in this forum?

„Forum, the final Matrix. These are the threads of the Rabbit-Hole Diablo. Its never ending mission: to copy strange old posts, to repeat old ideas and old threads, to bloody do what so many had done before.“ (loosely quoted… )

Well, seriously… Not having too much of an ironic day today (not as here: Gift: PC@20000!), only the normal… But… And don’t say I am doing the same… At least a completely new idea comes with that thread, don’t think that this has been unfurled here in the last 12 years…

Back to the topic…

There is already some AI working here in the forum software, as one can tell while writing a post – showing “Your topic is similar to…” threads on the right side. Not that this algorithm is stopping anybody from creating the same / similar threads over and over and over and over… Currently, err, constantly, Season start/end, Paragon Cap, Holiday Gift and probably some I unintentionally ignore.

With the nowadays available AI algorithms I think this should be not too big of a challenge for a team of programmers to write some code to “collect” threads with same/similar subject matter, mash them up nicely and present a consolidated abridgement of the subject area to the reader.

That would save a lot of hair-raising déjà vus, distressing eye-rolls, mind-boggling frownings, excruciating shrugs, precious lifetime…

Ending with two quotes from The Matrix:

Hope. It is the quintessential human delusion.

Well… But…

Human beings define their reality through misery and suffering.

Considering the little testing I have done with AI algorithms, you really would have to put a big disclaimer on the results it creates.

But it could be great for entertainment, IMHO.

Yeah, mash it all into soup to make it even less readable then it is now. You should apply to the D4 dev team, you’d fit in well!

Well, there is obviously irony hidden in (t)here, not obvious to everybody obviously, but that is obviously intentionally the idea of irony. If it were obvious it would obviously be only half the fun. And there is obviously no officially accredited way or precept to make irony obvious. It’s obviously obvious that I like the humor of Monthy Python. But that is obviously another story. Obviously… :smirk_cat:

I feel I stumbled into the Department of Redundancy Department.

Python  comes out Monthly?

Oh, wait…   “Monthy”.

Um…   What’s that?

Well, even though the Pythons started in 1969 the phrase you just used, it seems they are not the originator like for e.g. “Ministry of Silly Walks”. I was thinking that for years too. Seems to have been used by the Firesign Theatre (https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Firesign_Theatre) first.

Same goes for something completely different ( ), where I too though for years it was from them. Until I “found out” in 2008 that it is from Jack Wagner. And because I wanted to put the reference here I searched the World-Wide-Wisdom to find out that even that might be incorrect (https://reduced.to/jecwc)… And before people start on it, it is - or at least was - used in IELTS (https://ielts.org); I got my certificate in 2008 - now you know why I know… Or at least I thought until today.

Yeah. I was goggling the redundancy line to make sure that I was quoting it correctly and I came across the same general info.

That’s ok though. I first heard it on Python so that’s where it’ll stay for me. :slightly_smiling_face:

Well, more like that nowadays, and the pictures in that article are already 9 years old…

Firesign Theater might well be considered ‘The American Monty Python’ in that they had a similar absurdist sense of humor. However, being audio only (radio and record albums), they never got the wide exposure and only had a relatively small, stoner, cult following.
Their first album, Waiting for the Electrician (or someone like him) , is probably their most accessible. They got increasingly weird after that.

edit: Speaking of weird, the Monty Python record album ‘Matching tie and handkerchief’ has three sides. One of the sides has parallel grooves and will play different content depending on where you drop the needle!

Well, look at the AI that selects the Challenge Rift builds. :slightly_smiling_face:

Sometimes I wonder, that in that relatively small community of the Diablo III forum there are people, that share some of my “weird” interests…

That is probably why I like () AIs. They always have some weird sense of humor…
