Staff of Herding, so I did it

I know I said I wasn’t going to go out of my way to do it, but my curiosity got the better of me. How many games will it take to get the staff made?

For me?

I made 53 games.

Game 1: I got the book from Izual
Game 11: I got the Black Mushroom and Leoric’s Shinbone
Game 28: I got the Liquid Rainbow
Game 53: I got the Gibbering Gemstone and Wirt’s Bell

It took me 5 Mysterious Caves to get the Liquid Rainbow
It took me 29 Caverns of Frost to get the Gibbering Gemstone
Chiltara spawned 23 times

It took me a little over 3 hours to grind the Staff of Herding

I did all in 1 hour. 1st Mysteriuos Cave and Mystery Chest right away. 13th Chiltara dropped the Gemstone. ez pz

Got Gemstone on 2nd Chiltara kill
8 Izual kills for the plan.
Liquid Rainbow on first game.
1 game for Leoric Shinbone, on the same visit for dungeon pages
30+ games for Mushroom

I tried yesterday for 6 hours and today for 8 hours.

All my clan-mates have finished it in 2-3 hours max.

Anyone out there who can top 14 hours of Cavern-farming?
I’m starting to feel like the unluckiest person out there. :frowning:

I was surprised it only took me a little over 3 hours. I thought I would be at it for days and that’s just grinding for the Gemstone. Past attempts have proven that to be true. One time I found the Gibbering Gemstone before the Plans: The Staff of Herding, and that took another several days of grinding before I got the damn thing. Pure RNGzus.

I think the addition of this was to show people the content has and is still in the game. If you watch someone’s video on how to find the stuff for this, he didn’t even know what and how this thing was before researching it.

The easiest of all steps: Izual aint dropping the plan for me!

Game #321 now for Chiltara farming. Still no gem. RNG gods hate me.
Also, Chiltara is not in the caverns of frost 90% of the time. More like 60-75%.

I’ve been hitting all the locations for half a day now. of course on and off

This is why I always farm Chiltara in campaign mode. I’ve never seen her not spawn. It took me 40 min to get the gem.

Its easier to reload the game until you get the bounty to kill her

I did it for 3 hours last night, hopefully I get it tonight.

If it was compelling gameplay I would think it was excellent… but the gimmicking way you need to go about it… uhhh!!!

Well, it seems you do not count those games where you got the icefall caves. Should be 29 also, which leads to 82 games.

I got almost the same score, took me 73 games to get the gem. All other components fell very quickly in 2-3 games.

I can go for hours but i like to play hard and fast after a good feast! I fell asleep once playing for hours.
