I mean, it’s quite expensive just for a graphics overhaul, without QoL improvments or even gameplay. I know that a lot of purists are aginst QoL improvs but let’s be honests, you can always play the non Remasterd version for it. It’s there, just play it.
Fo me gameplay is a lot more important than graphics, and overall i didn’t find the gamplay too modernized to justify the price tag. What are your opinions?
another one of these
so sad
Spam too. They posted the same thing in D2 2000 forum.
A remastered version is simply a money grab. There will be a lot of players that won’t buy the game, because there isn’t anything new at all. From what I see on these forums 20-30% are exactly like that, including me. A remake would have made them a lot more money and it would have made perfect sense considering D4 won’t release this year.
My prediction is that 95%+ of the D2R players are to stop playing after a month. What this would mean is that they’ll put the game at 50% discount even before D4 releases, so my advice to anyone that haven’t purchased yet and want more polished gameplay experience is to just wait for this time and decide then.
flagged and moving on!
It’s hard to say if it’s worth it for anyone, and I’d suggest trying the free open beta while it’s still possible (this weekend only I believe) to get a good idea of that.
If you already know D2 and don’t like it due to the gameplay, you won’t like D2R, as it’s almost the exact same.
If you never played D2 before, well, just expect that it’s an experience that has very little in common with D3. A lot of players like it, but I can’t promise you you will. If old graphics aren’t an impediment to your enjoyment of the game, you may want to choose D2 instead, as it will prove less expensive for basically the same experience.
For players like myself, that still play Diablo 2 so long after its release, the graphical overhaul is probably worth it, as long as the remaster doesn’t damage the experience in a significant way (in my case, I’ll need to be able to backup my offline saves, and bring to it D2 saves, and being able to mod in some of the Plugy options would definitely be a huge boost to my enjoyment of the game, too).
Its a PG version of a previously M game with new graphics cashgrab.
To me no remaster is worth it. I played the original, the reason I don’t play it any longer is I no longer want to play it. Throwing on a new paint job does nothing for me.
It’s going to me M rated. Toll elsewhere.
There are already a lot of QoL improvements made to this version, perhaps more coming with time and hopefully community approval or some sort of polling.
To be honest though, if you didn’t like the gameplay, you should probably steer clear of it. It is meant to be a remaster of D2 with those players in mind, so if it wasn’t your cup of tea…I don’t think some QoL tweaks would change your mind much. I on the other hand would play D2 the way it has been for years bugs and all. I’m not a purist, so some of these QoL changes don’t bother me and in fact, I love some of them as they have gotten more people to play the game that otherwise wouldn’t have.
That is my 2 cents anyway, good luck!
DOn’t get me wrong, i love Diablo 2, probably the game i spent most time in my life, maybe second or thrrd after Total War Shogun 2 and Crusader Kings 2, but the thing is for the old game play i think i prefer to play the old game. I mean $40 is a little bit pricey not? Or am i just picky?
For as many hours as I’ve put in over the years compared to other games, even 60 bucks is still a steal for me lol. But I get what you are saying.
Guess it depends on how bothered you are with any possible changes the game might have and also if you have people you play with picking one over the other.
For me, my wife hates the old one but likes the new one…I don’t get why but it is what it is. So for me, its easier to just play the newer one so I can play with her more often. So you can think of things like that to help justify your decision. If you got people still on the old one or hate the changes, just chill there or vice versa.
I’m actually more bothered with the no changes. Okay i’m a bit bothered with the face of Amazon and i found Pally too ugly, but not that much.
My problem is exactly the fact that they dind’t modernized some aspects of gameplay, like the Ninja Loot thing, i never liked to play D2 online aside form leveling due to someone with better ping getting all items for example. They should do like PoE that you have a sec to get the item, if no one claim after this time go and take it. They should have learn a little with PoE.
Amazon does look better in-game than on the char select screen at least, I’ll admit that. Not sure if they will change the loot system or not. Some people have been tossing some ideas out for it, but not sure how far they will go to change something like that.
Best thing I can say is when you go to play, try and play with like-minded people or friends so the ffa loot doesn’t bite as hard. I tend to just do public games for the experience and never count on the loot as much, unless I have multiple friends on at once. Not saying that is a perfect system, but I just never count on getting loot in public games and refarm things solo or with friends. That is where I think doing some sort of guild system would be really beneficial to the game to help cut down on some of the toxic looting issues.
Rated-M, yes; however, it’s more tame than D2 is. There is censoring in the remaster.
it’ll be excite to some ppls, but i agree with you,the main gameplay didn’t change,i’m not going to play a 20 years old game, even blizzard make it 8k(or more)…there’s many great game in my gaming life,d2 is one of them, let them stay in my memories…
Without updates to this 20 year old game, and with no modding it appears, going to be a pass from me.
Oh please. You people.
Can you please clarify what is censored? I’ve seen some people saying that, but I’m not sure what their actual complaint is.
Depending on how moddable the graphics are, we may see mods to address the amazon and sorceress to more closely resemble what we remember.
I understand that, but as D2 is already very good, it’s dangerous to go in and make significant changes, which is why they are being very cautious in the changes they introduce. A few examples :
- Loot => While I personally think the game would be better off with some way of assigning the loot to the players without it being basically a free for all, there are quite a few very vocal players that would dislike any change in that direction. Not sure why, but it is a big risk for the game to make the change.
- New content => Quite a few players have been requesting the addition of new content, whether it be new quests for act IV (any significant rewards for such quests could disrupt the balance of the game, and any new area added for them could alter the experience curve in ways that would significantly alter end game), a new act (which would feel very contrived, as all interesting ennemies are already out of the picture at that point), new runewords (powercreep), and even new endgame content akin to what we have in D3 (which would make D2R an entirely different game).
- Balance changes => Many players have been requesting a buff to abilities that are currently very weak. This would be yet another instance of powercreep.
The first thing they have to keep in mind with anything they do in the game is make sure they don’t accidentally break something essential to the game, which is why they’ll think twice before introducing any change. Buying the game, though, is a way to tell them that it’s worth keeping working on it so that, with the data they’ll be able to get over the next months, they may make actual changes that you’ll like, while keeping true to what everyone likes about the game.
In my case, I’ll make sure they don’t break the game for how I enjoy it before buying it. If it’s ok, then I’ll be very happy with the new graphics as the current ones are aging quite a bit.
Most of the starting characters do not carry over faithfully from their D2 counterparts.
The barbarian of D2R looks old and tired, in contrast to his younger and larger self from legacy.
The Paladin’s face in D2R is not a very accurate adaptation from the concept art and visual appearance of his D2 counterpart. Same with the Assassin.
The Amazon has received the most dramatic and upsetting visual overhaul. She looks like an old, transgendered man. She wears a kilt that covers over her thighs and buttocks and her breasts have undergone a massive reduction from the D2 Amazon. VV went out of their way to tone her down from what she was in her younger glory.
The Sorceress has received a regalia change, with her underboob covered over. Her skirts are also longer and cover more of the leg. She’s also been changed to look more Latino and seems… swollen, for some reason. Maybe not the right word. I can’t describe it. She just seems off.
The rogues of Act I wear leg armor, but do not wear any clothing over their buttocks. In the legacy textures, they wear thongs, just like Andariel. In D2R, their buttocks are covered over with loincloth - Andariel included.
In the Catacombs level IV, there are pillars in the corridor where Andariel spawns. On those pillars are spikes with impaled corpses hanging from them. In legacy, they are female corpses with obvious visuals of exposed breasts. In D2R, they are covered over with a dark transition of blood and gore so you cannot see their breasts.
Now, I was not originally looking for these textures. But I noticed that the rogues that were running at me in the Cold Plains did not look the same. I began to run them in circles, comparing between the two versions of the game. When I noticed they were covered over, I became suspicious and began looking for any models of females that might be seen as questionable. There are 1-2 models of rogues that didn’t receive the same level of cover-over, so there appears to be inconsistencies; however, it is clear that Blizzard made sure VV paid attention to covering “sensitive areas” of female parts, despite Diablo 2 being a rated-M game.
I hope this helps.
