Suggestion to Allow for more points to be put into weaker spells at top of tree than the bottom of the tree.
Why: bottom of the tree is more powerful, so make weaker skills more viable at the cost of having to spend more points specializing. You trade flexibility for specialization.
I know there are Synergies, just thinking outside of the box a bit here.
No, that’s never happening… nice try though.
Synergies were introduced for that reason alone… because players were bummed that their points were being “wasted” in low level skills.
Mind you that was when the game was much easier… like circa v1.10… you could literally have throw away requirement points in low level skills and your end game skills were still insane with 20 points pumped in to them… now the synergies are required due to balancing changes…
They’re not going to screw with that now… there’s too much at stake as most builds are very finite.
They need to reduce enemy immunities to be high resistances, that’s the only balancing change this game needs… if they did that it would open up a WHOLE slew of old builds that could still potentially work… but I dunno why this is so difficult for players / Blizzard to understand… immunities ruined the entire game.

So you want for example option to invest more skill points into frozen orb?
Hi, everyone can propose things. But D2 doesn’t need rebalancing right now. In the future who knows, but this release is really not about tweaking skills or items

stop trying to make changes … The game works great without it. Leave Diablo 2 alone …

No, that would be a bad idea.
Synergies were also meant for players to invest in low skills rather than holding skill points until required level for desired skill which was prevalent before 1.10. you are right though, immunities killed a lot. Rather than removing all, I’d say decrease density of immunities or simply set most at 100 and allow minus res items to penetrate.

You could always run around or away from the immunities, or play your hammerdin like every bot ever. Or play enough to build an infinity, then only a very few immunities remain.
