Shared Drops Are D2

Why is this a discussion? From what I saw the developers never even hinted at changing the loot system or how drops work in d2. Their entire MO for D2R is to leave the game in it’s original state. I doubt they would change something so fundamental to the way the game works as shared drops.

D2 is one of the best games of all time. I’m one of the people who played D2 very hard and I’d like to enjoy it the way that I remembered. That includes clicking on diablo’s feet, cow kings feet, and farming solo.

If everyone gets a drop from bosses there is little to no motivation to do solo mf runs. If this happens people wont play portions of the game - people wont farm Andy, Mephisto, etc.

MF items will tank in the market and a large portion of the game would be fundamentally changed.

I say leave D2 alone. Let it be raw.

Isn’t the point to allow the next generation to enjoy the classic? This game is one of the founding fathers of online gaming and it should be preserved.

Amen.

We are lucky the developers have more sense than that vocal minority of folks here.

Entitlement. Some very unthought out wants from some users around here

I like how casual now stands for I just want everything to be easy to do and get.

You’re speaking for yourself lol. I have to work lots sure and I will never be on a leaderboard but it doesn’t mean I want boring cookie-cutter games to walk through.

The genre of more hardcore games has been doing fantastic recent history with the dark/demon souls type games popping up left and right and POE was always quite successful for its humble beginnings.

Yeah, I’m a casual gamer, but want the normal Diablo II to play again with great graphics. Casual should just mean not automatically trying to minmax. =P

Losing out on a drop and then getting one that changes your day, the struggles you endured, jesus makes that drop smoke worthy… but no let’s make everything reward everyone no matter if you even swing a weapon, you just need to not die now.

It doesn’t matter, people can still pickup loot from the runs. Assuming there will be tens of thousands of players playing D2R, you won’t be able to assemble a banlist, due to the quantity, then you would have to even investigate the bnet account, character name isn’t enough. The only difference would be that people don’t need to go the the boss and pickup.

Or… you know…just don’t play the game if you can’t handle having to put time into it? Why ruin it for other people who enjoy it the way it is? Why not just go play D3 until D4 comes out?

This right here is the exact problem. Blizzard will continue to make mediocre titles for everyone so people like you can have a slice of the cake too and live in a utopian carebear land. D2 is for the hardcore playerbase, D3 (and most likely D4) is for the casual playerbase. You need to grasp that and move on.

Ask yourself this: If they make the game more suitable for you, are you SERIOUSLY still going to play it for years and years and years on end? No. You won’t. You will quit the game after a month regardless and move on to the next big title that comes out. The hardcore players will also quit the game because it’s shallow garbage. People like you will lead the game into another disaster and failure, and people like me will continue to complain about how Blizzard cares more about quantity over quality, and how much D3/D4 sucks.

Leave D2 alone and let people have their enjoyment when there’s thousands of other games for you to try out, this game is 20 years old and you’ve played it already.

LOL. See, if I said to you “Sorry, but I don’t like a game that insults my intelligence and holds my hand like I’m a handicapped monkey baby with a poor attention span the whole way through” You’d get offended, yet you can say disrespectful stuff like this and it’s perfectly okay.

Agreed!

Changing core mechanics would also present a big problem for Blizzard in one regard.

In that thousands of people probably pre-ordered D2:R based on the information we got from Blizzcon. And nowhere there did they mention changing core features, just QoL improvements.

People who want shared loot don’t have enough going on in their lives. Seriously. I am an adult with an actual career and responsibilities and I would like to actually enjoy all of D2 including getting to the end game without having to deal with vultures like you. Games are meant to be fun, and your type turn them toxic af.

The real problem with all these threads is the hyperbole and generalization:

Oh, you want personal loot? Oh you’re a filthy casual that wants everything handed to them; go play modern easy game x.

Oh you want shared loot? Oh you’re a basement dwelling dinosaur who only wants to steal people’s loot.

It’s not that simple; like in most cases, there is a lot of nuance and granularity in how people play D2, and jumping to extremes does not promote a healthy community, for anyone.

Personally, I think individual loot is better, but I have almost no experience playing D2 in a multiplayer environment, so I lack a sense of how that feels as a player. When you’re used to something, it feels normal.

I don’t think personal loot makes the game any easier, either; on single player, using the /players x function, you still don’t get things handed to you, it’s not cake. And if you stay at players 1, it takes forever to acquire gear. How that would work in an MP environment, I am not sure, so while I think it is better from an engagement standpoint, it might not work at all in practice.

All I’m saying is there is a lot of space between the poles, and maybe we don’t need to assume everyone stands on them exclusively.

I work 50-60 hours a week and I want to play D2 as it is. Who the $(%# are you to tell me what’s “fun”?

Trying to change the game to cater more to your needs is toxic. You are a hypocrite.

Wouldn’t it be nice if no one defined fun for another? Wouldn’t it be nice if some select FFA loot for your game like in PoE? Wouldn’t it be nice if others could select timed loot or personal loot for their game like in PoE? This way no one is imposing their will on another.

There will be no participation trophies in d2 resurrected … !!
No Private Loot… !!

In D2 currently in public battlenet games, what percent of multiplayer games have leechers? A guess is fine.

The current state of d2 is mostly bots lol id say 1 leacher
bots grew to ruin d2 as they have ruined d3…

Thats why the new d2 will be fun till the bots take over.

Wouldn’t it be nice if D3 had a skill tree?
Wouldn’t it be nice if D3 had trading?
Wouldn’t it be nice if D3 had PvP?
Wouldn’t it be nice if D3 had better itemization?
Wouldn’t it be nice if in D3 it wouldn’t take us 1 hour to get to max level and a couple days to be in max gear?
Wouldn’t it be nice if D3 had a better storyline and atmosphere?
Wouldn’t it be nice if…yeah…the list can keep going on.

You can’t have everything you want, and you have to live with it. I want to play the game as it is.

You are attacking the whole integrity of what made D2, D2. Why not leave the game alone when it’s been doing fine for the past 20 years?

You just want everything handed to you everywhere you go and you don’t care what you damage and hurt. Absolutely vile.

Therefore, leechers are not carrying their weight and still are benefiting with xp and items. I assume this is what you consider participation trophies that are now prevalent in D2. It is not the loot system but human behavior that some will want to maximize personal gain with minimum effort. Think of how D2 pickit hacks make it so legitimate players have little/no opportunity to get the best loot in FFA. How is that fair to players with integrity?
