So it seems since the last patch seasons have lasted 86 days. The problem is if the current season lasts the same , Season 33 will start somewhere near 6th October. With D4 expansion releasing on the 8th this isn’t realistic.
Even if i really like the ethereals, I for one would like this season to end sooner than that, just so it doesn’t overlap with VoH and D4S6 (it seems to be intentional to launch D3 seasons in d4’s downtime, at least that’s how i perceived it).
I have no inside scoop but I would think that S33 will launch after D4 S6 and VoH maybe mid to late October.
Just put d3 down for awhile, if you feel the season last too long, just play another game.
For a game in maintenance mode, it’s not likely to change it’s schedule.
Overlapping with other games’ releases isn’t going to matter all that much. There are those who only play one or the other. And those who play both will have plenty of time play which ever, when ever. It will be a non-issue.
As for launching D3 seasons, it’s not timed with anything except its own three month rotation. It doesn’t take any other games into account, at least so far.
If Season 32 lasts 86 days
- Season 32 ends Sunday, October 6, 2024
- Season 33 starts Friday, October 11, 2024
Not my point, I mostly play during the first week of the season and usually no life it the first weekend
Well it might just be a coincidence that seasons so far started when D4 was basically between seasons.
Still i strongly believe that the majority of remaining D3 players are also playing D4 and launching a season the same week the expansion launches for D4 would be a bad idea. Would rather just end S32 a week earlier.
Why is it a bad idea?
If seasons were a week long, or some other very short span, maybe. But there’s plenty of time for both games to be played.
I think a lot of people play these games for the race to world first, whichever achievement that is.
It usually takes just a couple weeks to post Fresh When for WoW, too.
That said I see the point of hyping together and discussing stuff. First weeks are a bit busier. I was still playing Remix and now I totally can’t make myself to D3. I kinda want the stash tab and the portraits but I also just end up playing GW2.
Maybe 3 months are too short for me, by the time I get somewhere I get reset.
Yes, I could play NS, but it’s missing the features.
A lot of people play the first week of D3 season just for the fresh start with a bunch of other people. Many of those same people are going to rush to play the new D4 content. If they have to choose, pretty easy bet it will be the new content.
If they start the D3 season like a week and a half before D4, the numbers will be there. If they start the D3 season almost on top of D4 xpac release, D3 numbers are going to be way down.
Recently, they were launching 1 month apart. This has been disrupted because D4 S5 was reduced to only 2 months instead of 3 to coincide with the first expansion release.
Causing the start times for D4 S6 and D3 S33 to be at nearly the same time.
My whole thing in this game is play that first few days and challenge myself on the (now ssf) leaderboards on an equal playing field before i gotta go to work on monday and can no longer compete. You can only do that if you play when the season starts. I don’t want to have to chose between playing a new season of D3 and D4 on the same week.
There’s a reason season starts are when the most people play the game.
That’s fair.
True when the two games are being actively developed by teams making decisions on things like timings. But, one game is essentially on autopilot now.
Not to say we can’t be suprised, just that, so far, it’s been that way.
Yup, as does almost every D3 player. Blast then move on to something else like D4. An overlap would totally suck for those of us the want to play both launches.

I think it’s good to discuss this. They did the same mistake over the last few years with WoW. Back around 2010 they rotated game releases. In 2019 I was convinced they’ll alternate WoW releases. Then in 2022 they released WLK and DF, and now they released SoD, Remix, Cata and TWW in rapid succession. Casually ignoring Plunderstorm, that was something special (niche).
It’s not sustainable, neither as a player - varying experiences, Blizzard used to counter other MMO releases with their own, kindly helping everyone to reduce the peak - nor as the developer - apparently, each and every one of these versions were released in dire need of polish. Or norwegian.
D3 is sort of okay in that you can skip seasons at will, I guess, but the others I listed are hardcore FOMO.
)
I think there is a certain inherent excitement that comes with a season start, whether you are only planning on playing for like a month out of the three or it is a theme you have already played. Even for those of us who couldn’t care less about any world first achievement things.
It is definitely different now that we don’t get new themes but it is still a thing for people. I don’t see myself being super hyped to start immediately with the next one now, I am still playing so a bit of a break will be nice.
If you ask me the smarter move is to rather extend this season by like 2 weeks. It won’t hurt either game to do that.
Yeah, it really could be that D3 S33 will coincide to much (3-10 days difference in start dates) with D4 S6 (and expansion start).
If D3 S33 starts within those 10 days after D4 S6 starts, it probably will be almost empty…
Best course of action if you ask me is end it earlier. D4 will have a slower progress curve in S6 and quite a lot new content, enough to keep people occupied for more than 2 weeks. If you want it not to overlap, just start D3 season on the 27th September.
In 2 days, this season will reach 2 months. so, I am guessing one more month. I forget, each season stops on a sunday and starts on a friday? So, stop season 32 on the 13th of october and start season 33 on the 18th at 5pm?
Recycling Themes began with Season 30.
- Season 30 lasted 86 days.
- Season 31 lasted 86 days.
- Season 32 lasted ?? days.
I’m sticking with what I stated above.
O yeah, I kind of forgot there are a bunch of things coming in. Makes sense then.
