Several new items have been mentioned there:
- Sword of Mediocrity
- Coal (Glowing Ore)
What is this? Just surprises?

They are listed under MISC, so I would assume the Sword thingy is either a crafting plan or some special grey/white/blue item. The ore, maybe an ingredient for the craft recipe or it’s a consumable that can only be used on the sword. Who knows.
Something along that… we shall see.

Just to note: the gifts appear to be one per player, which I’m assuming to mean only one will ever drop for you, though I suppose it might just mean that when you open a gift, the loot drops only for you, and doesn’t appear for other people. Sure seems more likely to be the former though. Or I guess it could just be language making fun of these sorts of offers, doesn’t mean anything at all, and you can open as many gifts as you can find.

Ah, that one. I figured it out!
Start the game in campaign mode, normal difficulty with a new character. Drop all items and only wear the Sword of Mediocrity. Like this, play through the campain. At the end you must kill Mathael by throwing chunks of coal at him. You need at least 100 and also, you must not die. Do that in under 1 hour and you receive a special gear transmog set.
For wizards its a Candystick (wand) and Unmelting Snowball (source)…
And if you believed this, don’t be too disappointed.
We just have to wait until the event goes live. I will go and farm some puzzle rings and crucibles in the meantime.

Spectrum included in the transmogs which is cool. I hate bounties so rainbow portals are scarce for me.

This may also be the season 27 end date (2/5), although a separate blog post will confirm this. This puts S27 at 164/5 days, the longest season in history.
Nearly four months without a blue post on this forum.
Well, they also say “here is what you can potentially receive from any recovered Gifts:” As well as indicating enjoy your lumps of coal.
My impression is that only one gift will drop per RG or Goblin. But that we will be able to get many over the course of the event.
If that impression is wrong and we only get one ever, that would certainly be disappointing.

Could the coals be there as an indicator that you found a duplicate. In other words you already have the wing - transmog - etc.?
so you cheapen the cosmic wings by just giving them away. kinda sucks for the people that hunted them down the right way but whatevs.

Look on the bright side: maybe the gifts will be 10x as rare as the cosmic wings themselves!

Got two gifts from the first ancient vault run after patch. 
… and six from the next… (after that it took three runs to get a single one)
For anyone who’s curious regarding if non-season benefits as well, I can confirm that the holiday gift drops in non-season as well.
