Rod Fergusson just confirmed no chat or lobbies for console

This is great news maybe real change will occur despite Blizzard shills like MissCheetah controlling the narrative.

"We've heard the community feedback but with four weeks till launch we're focused on stability and optimizations. No new features till after launch." - Rod Fergusson

Let’s analyze this carefully.

"We've heard the community feedback"
First, he stated that they have heard community feedback on console lobbies/chat. It also seems fair to assume that they have heard community feedback on other hot button topics.

but with four weeks till launch we're focused on stability and optimizations.
The dreaded “but”. Essentially, Rod is stating that given the short time left before launch they are focusing on the basics of not having the game crash frequently, too meny glitches, rubber banding, or worse of all fry people’s computers.

No new features till after launch
This means exactly what is says. There will be no new features before launch and that there will be new features after launch. The question is what new features. This was left vague, presumably for a reason. My suspicion is that either they did not want to commit to something and then later fail to deliver or they plan on introducing new features that could potentially upset a fraction of the playerbase.

For example, if it was “simple” things (or may be not so simple) like console chat/lobbies, console keyboard/mouse support that they were 100% confident that would be implemented, if I were Blizzard, I would have stated that just so that players knew it was in the gameplan.

Personally, I think that this quote means either “No promises made so no promises broken” or Blizzard plans new features that will anger a subset of the playerbase.

Ah yes, “controlling” the narrative with truth.

You are not getting Lobby for K+M for Sept 23rd release.

Period. Nothing is changing that. The only alternative they have is to delay Console release, in which case you still don’t get it on Sept 23rd.

There is nothing to control here. Nothing at all. Refund it if you don’t like reality.

MissCheetah gives information out as neutrally as possible. She also doesn’t shill. She hates shills just as much as I do. You should have seen her reaction to the Diablo: Immortal announcement back at BlizzCon 2018. It was both passionate and unflattering of Blizzard.

She also can’t control any narratives. She’s one person, as am I. Neither of us can force anyone to do anything they don’t want to do. We can only inform and let others decide what they want to do.

“NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE THAT” WAH WAH WAH. HOW ABOUT BLIZZARD MAKES $0 from console sales THEN WE WILL SEE THE CHANGE

Not for Sept 23rd you won’t.

Edit - IF they add those things, which they seem open to, it is after release.

I think that if her and you both stayed on Diablo 3 and Diablo 4 forums maybe D2R would be a lot better off. You two both defend Blizzard while they destroy our Diablo 2 Remaster for console.

I know that this is hyperbole; however, I bet the majority of console D2R purchasers will not know about this tweet/announcement before release. It could turn into a situation that many try to refund/complain on or after September 23. Some of course have or will refund prior to D2R release knowing this information. That is their right to do so based on their personal preferences and the information that they have.

They need to state if it’s coming or not… so we can make a decision… not keep us holding our breath.

You show a lot of patience and it’s all to your merit. Bravo , it must not be easy . Hope console gamers will be able to see its functions soon after release

The game is feature locked until after launch. That means nothing but bug fixes and fine tuning is going to occur between now and the CDN commit. It means things like the target lock, force stand still, and other accessibility features will not get into the game at launch. I dislike it but I understand the “why” because I’ve been through the cycle many times with games from multiple developers.

You’ll have to wait until an undetermined point in the (hopefully near) future to get the features you’re asking for.

Perhaps you should read my open beta functionality review and closed beta functionality review. I go into what the game had, what it lacked, and what could be improved. My review was for PC specifically, though nearly all of the controller UI improvements would also apply to console as well.

Sorry. Old school D2 player here which is how I got to Blizz games in the first place.

I mean, we could solve this whole thing. Stop the Console release totally. Scrap it. They could just release D2R for the PC - just like it originally was. No console at all. It never was on Console.

Would you prefer the legit original platform release as the only option?

Agreed. If I was a console player I would not buy it until it has the features I want. If they don’t tell you that info, hold off buying it.

YES WE WILL. THEY WILL FIX THIS MAJOR ISSUE BEFORE SEPT 23rd. GO PLAY DIABLO 3. THE TRUE FANS OF D2 HAVE A GAME TO GET FIXED.

It would be awesome if they did, but they won’t. At least not at launch.

Right now we know a few things.

  1. We don’t have lobbies for launch.

  2. The developers know we are unhappy and want lobbies.

  3. They are working on bug fixes so the game runs correctly first.

So we shouldn’t be arguing with each other, but we should continue to voice our concerns.

Let the devs know it’s important without giving them grief. We wouldn’t want to alienate them just like we don’t want to be alienated.

I know we all wish for a little more transparency, but their is probably a lot more going on behind the scenes we don’t know. I wouldn’t doubt that it’s Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo’s fault that the lobbies are non existent right now.

WHY DO THEY NEED TO SCRAP THE CONSOLE RELEASE? Can’t they just fix it and do what the PLAYERS WANT FOR ONCE?

The true fans of D2 play on PC.

Do you really want to do this?

I’d say unless you pre-ordered the console version strictly to experience D2 single player, it’d be in everyone’s best interest to cancel the pre-order sometime this month while you still can.

While the thought of Ladder items available to all was almost enough for me to keep my pre-order I truly feel that we’re getting a watered down variant and there’s little we can do about it.

With luck we’ll be getting lobbies and chat down the road, but if not I for one would’ve been rather irritated to be out the $40 I spent on an incomplete version of the game.

To date, Rod has not explicitly stated that console chat/lobbies will be coming. If this ambiguity/vagueness is a concern and no lobbies/chat is a deal breaker, one either needs to:

  1. Take a wait and see approach prior to purchasing
  2. Refund given the ambiguity
  3. Take the risk that these features will never be implemented and Blizzard already has your money

UMM WHY CAN’T TRUE FANS PLAY ON CONSOLE? OHhhh THATS RIGHT BECAUSE BLIZZARD IS LEAVING OUT KEY FEATURES LIKE:

-LOBBIES
-CHAT
-KEYBOARD AND MOUSE

Wait & see , that’s all we can do , this and refund if we’re not happy with the actual statement. Now being aggressive and spamming uppercase messages, doesn’t help. You will not have more answer, and you will just get angry even more
