Purists will kill this game early with their fear of change

Many small changes will make big changes to the game. This will make the game something completely different and unrecognizable than how it exactly should be. This will ruin the whole core of Diablo.

Diablo 2 is the best A-RPG game in the world ever made. Why should one remove what made the game from in the first place? Yes, we live in 2021, but that does not mean that all games must be changed to be the same. Same dynamics and mechanism etc. .
Diablo 2 is uniq, let it be unique.

I love the graphics, but the game is supposed to be Diablo 2. A remaster, not a remake / New game.

But if they change the way the loot is in the game, like adding Personal Loot, then they have already ruined the game. I am against this corruption.

Why is it so hard for people to grasp the concept of a remaster VS remake? A remaster DOES NOT change ANY of the core systems of the game. This means:

  1. No change of personal loot, or loot changes of any kind. Loot is what made the game.
  2. No changes to the leveling system of any kind.
  3. No changes to trading of any kind.
  4. No changes to the skills besides slight buffing of ONLY the skills that were completely unused due to being far too weak. THATS IT. Leave every other skill 100% the same. You should be able to play 100% of all the builds from the original and they should all function 100% the same.

Any other changes besides minor QoL changes like auto-gold and stash upgrades would change the core of the game and therefor not be a remaster. Ergo, they will 100% never change/add anything else besides very minor things. You can take that to the bank and cash it. If you want new, wait for D4 kids.

Then how do you know what new players will like or not, if you are yourself an old gamer? You just cant predict anything then.

Im okay with selectable, but this will be HELL to balance it for multiplayer. And game start screen will look like some kind of aircraft dashboard. It will be better to just do mods.

As example, we cant let gamers with one inventory and gamers with separate charm inventory to play together without personal loot (because first type have no space, 2nd have too much space in inventory). If devs want to please every type - it will end in creating 10+ types of servers for individual combinations of settings, and this is just too much.

So only mods or single-player viable here, for real. Some kind support of creating player-owned mod servers, but Blizzard will never do this.

Some would consider your definition of a remaster to be too broad while others too narrow. Some people think that a remaster only includes video and audio updates. There, your acceptance of any QoL feature means it is not a remaster in their definition. Others define remaster more broadly. My take is if the remaster has selectable options where the individual user can choose to have a game that is nearly identical to the original, it meets the definition of a remaster. Blizzard also knows that D2R is not immutable perfection. They will introduce more changes (presumably that can be made on/off) if the players request them.

When the time comes, people will mod the game to create some of the new and interesting features some players want.

Some mods are quality of life, like PlugY. Others change the game completely, like MedianXL, Path of Diablo, D2 Enriched, or pick your flavor.

This game will survive on it’s own merit with minor changes. Assuming the community develops something great that isn’t overwhelmingly game changing, Blizzard will build it into the game. Think: Colored runes, shared stash, respec tokens, and probably single player ladder runewords (no official statement on this)

I just want little changes like more arrows in quiver more javelins in stack etc… this improve gameplay for amazon without broken the game

I know that among D2 players/fans that pre-purchased the game and those who have not, there are divergent views. It would be naïve to think that new players would not also have divergent views.

Many options will be in a separate options menu. For example, in D3, you can set the foreground and background FPS. Anit-aliasing on/off, the volume, ground clutter, item icons, etc…

There may be cases like this where two choices will be grouped together and separated collectively for fairness. In a case like this, you can only play with others that make the same choice. For example, in a party, it would be either FFA loot or personal loot. There would not be cases where both player types are mixed in the same party.

So many experts around these forums xD

Old players really enjoyed Diablo II despite how the mechanics worked in that game. It would be naive to think new players would not also like Diablo II with updated graphics despite its game mechanics.

I suspect you will have many issues with this statement because as seen elsewhere you only apply your logic narrowly when it supports opinions you already have.

I agree but it is more complex. The reality is self-evident even on the D2R forum. To post on this forum, you need to have spent money to pre-purchase D2R (greatly enriching for old D2 fans like myself), it seems like for every thread created to argue “no change”, there is another thread arguing for change. Even in this thread, there is a back and forth. One size does not fit all. D2 fans have divergent views. This statement is not in dispute.

We can argue about what percent of D2 fans are in the no change D2R camp versus lets give options camp. The existence of these camps is an undeniable fact. Both sides have claimed the other is a vocal minority. I can not say with 100% certainty who the majority is among D2 fans or prospective D2R customers. I can accurately say is there are many, many individuals on both sides.

This is the last time I’m going to tell you this because you literally ignore everything people tell you and say the same s%*#.

ORIGINAL DIABLO 2: LORD OF DESTRUCTION WITH BETTER GRAPHICS AND BETTER BOT/DUPING/HACKING DETECTION. Does original D2 on the old battle net servers have this? Do you feel forced to play D2 in windowed mode?

“Classic gameplay—the same Diablo II you know and love, preserved.”
“Classic gameplay—the same Diablo II you know and love, preserved.”
“Classic gameplay—the same Diablo II you know and love, preserved.”
“Classic gameplay—the same Diablo II you know and love, preserved.”
“Classic gameplay—the same Diablo II you know and love, preserved.”

Your stupid ideas go against this severely.

Give me the option to play a mode in D3 where I can trade/duel/have better itemization/skill trees/no infinite respecs/no PG13 pixar atmosphere, then.

What are you complaining about? I said the argument is invalid that D2 purists should just play D2. I agree with you.

D2R can preserve the D2 experience AND give others a modified experience.

I would be ok with those changes in D3 as long as there were optional selections. Please feel free to advocate for that to the D3 developers and you will have my full support.

MicroRNA should get Jay Wilson’d loool

you are my new BFF bigevilpeter

That is why they call them mods, they are modifications of the original game. The problem with them is that some people will like them and some will not and that is why companies use to lounch regular games, not modded games.

You can write your own mod code when the remaster comes out and go play it as you want it to be, you can even place your own face into one of the heros if you have the knowledge.

Completely agree with this

Unlimited cow level is a change everyone wants but didn’t realize.

I think blizz is taking the right approach. Launch without much changed to satiate the purists, then be open to QoL things that are not drastic. Such as the cow portal. See how it goes from there.

The fact is that Blizzard is already giving us options that we can choose to turn on and off. We did not need to create mods if Blizzard already incorporates these into the game. In D2R, I do not need to create a mode to have auto-gold pickup. I can select auto-gold on or off. I do not need to create a mode to select updated graphics (I can choose the new graphics to be on or off).

This will is the case even with selectable options. You remember the classic experience of clicking to pick up gold, then you choose to turn that auto-gold pickup option off. If you want the updated feature of auto-picking up gold, you turn it on.

Having optional changes preserves D2R for D2 purists but gives others an optional updated/improved experience.

I haven’t seen much pushback against unlimited cows at all, maybe 1 or two posts vs the dozens for it…I think they’d be fine to include unlimited cows.
