Picasso would not approve it

Hi everyone.

This is my personal opinion about what should this “resurrection” aim for.

You have a masterpiece in your hands, and the gameplay balance is what makes it a masterpiece. Droprates, pvp and pvm viable builds, monster density, runewords, gameplay difficulty…, all these concepts and others mixed togheter are what made this game so special, they are what make this game one of the best games ever made.

Please do not touch anything related to the gameplay. The game has flaws, as everything in this world has, but when you try to fix a flaw, you always create a different one, so please keep it as close to the original as possible. Graphics are not the key here, their improvement is welcome as far as it wont hurt the game experience, so go ahead with that, but, again, please dont touch the gameplay.

QOL improvements are welcome, shared stash, increased stash size or stackeable items are welcome, as they wont hurt the gameplay. Loot filters are different. This is an online game, so two players, one with and one without a loot filter, will have a different chance to pick an item dropped in a public game, i dissagree with their implementation, even if it is optional.

It would be a crime if an art restorer replaced the horse in Picasso’s “Gernika” with a sheep. Dont do that with this videogames masterpiece, just clean its surface so we can enjoy it again with a new generation of players.

Keep the game as perfect as it is, not more, not less.

Thank you.

Good points, and I agree. The skill system combined with the loot system gives so many possibilities, which is what made D2 the king of rpg looters. D2 can be as simple or as complicated as you want to play it, you can get as involved or as not involved as possible and you can learn something new all the time, this is why it has stood the test of time so much.

I am still convinced that there are niche builds to be explored, this is something I want to do upon launch.

If you have a masterpiece that was created by Picasso, you argue that you should listen to Picasso. Let’s see what David Brevik, the original game director of D2/D2:LoD and President of Blizzard North at that time, has said about D2/D2:Lod and D2R. See post linked below.

I do not think I would use your Picasso argument if I were you.

It wouldnt be the same masterpiece anymore, now would it? No matter who remakes it :stuck_out_tongue:

he still dont say he will change loot in D2R.

also agian Brevik change. he made a masterpice game with d2- after that. he had made bad games… so as you se. he ditten change for better.

Correct.

In relation to D2R specifically, he said that Blizzard could add it as an option in D2R in both his tweet and in the two linked videos. For D2/D2:LoD, he has said repeatedly if he could back back in time he would replace FFA loot with personal loot.

just like a soccer player… you once wher good and had a say on the team. later you get worse and have no say…

David made 1 good game. and northing god after.

so what i say is. perhaps hes words has no mening. only for the people who can use it in ther case.

No not really I think he would approve the QoL changes

Do you honestly think his mental capacity in relation to D2/D2:Lod has diminished with time?

I would trust his knowledge far more than many on this forum.

why not? people changes ther mind often. and not always for the better.

sure you would. it makes you side of the story look better.

People do change their mind. However, you need to consider that he did not change his mind. He has stated that instanced loot was not invented back then. He/Blizzard North did not choose to use FFA loot over personal loot. Personal loot did not exist yet.

True, it does make those who favor optional personal look far better since our views align with the game director responsible for the development/creation of D2/D2:LoD. I would rather trust the creator of the masterpiece than a someone with less knowledge.

Picasso, as any artist, changed on time, game developers also change with time. Brevik created the masterpiece at one point in his life, and the whole complex mind of Brevik at that moment did it, the same way he created a masterpiece 20y ago, he could manage to ruin it in 2021 with his new way to see things.

This stupid art analogy again? wth is with these people…

Some people think videogames are also art, why is it an stupid analogy? A banana nailed to a wall is art and a videogame is not? Wth is with these people…

This seems factual.
