Iâve been looking for a similarity between DH and the D2 Assassin since 2012. After long consideration I have concluded there is no similarity. Anybody who ever played a Trap Assassin well will either agree with me, or theyâre lying about ever playing a trapper. Trap Assassinâs placed ranged traps that were unlike turrets or sticky traps, in that they had the real ability to one shot whites, and with support from the shadow tree, they did a good job on elites and bosses too. All from range.
Without a proper Assassin, D4 will be a lot less fun. Assassin would be the first class I role in the game.
I think that given the developersâ influences like Rembrandt and historical figure paintings in this iteration of Diablo, a Heretic would be a great addition as one of the last two remaining classes.
The Heretic would be an Assassin and Paladin/Crusader/Monk hybrid, bringing traps, concealment, and (un)holy magic/blood spells into play, plus use of claws/blades, flails, hammers, maces, staves, and phylacteries. Perhaps similar to the Heretic from DAoC.
If not a Witch Doctor nor Necromancer, the second could be a âMinstrel de lâombreâ type that charms, conjures, stuns, buffs, and plays instruments that deal magic, nature, and physical damage. Weâd be able to hear chords and riffs they tend to use in ambient game music as exaggerated and dramatic sound effects. Would be an interesting expansion character in any case.

Boy I hope not⌠Honestly if they donât bring back D2 Necro it will be a huge miss. His whole kit fits the dark and edgy theme they have going. Iâm actually incredibly surprised that it wasnât a running class. It has a massive following, and D3 necromancer, while cool and gimmecky, did NOT do what all the Necro fans wants. It was a cool take on the class, but now I just want to summon and power up my Necro army with skill points like in D2.
Really hope thereâs no assassin. And while I didnât enjoy Amazon, I accept that itâs a popular class as well. But I think that in order to achieve success, Necromancer and Paladin are the two required classes.
You need at least one summoner class that is dark and edgy. And at least one holy light class to push the whole light against dark fantasy. These are the only two options imo.

Id love to see a Thief class, every ARPG has a stealth/poisons/daggers class.
Amazon or similar hunter class would be good too, something for ranged/melee dmg.
Ofc a paladin/holy warrior is a natural fit for the Diablo universe.
Who knowsâŚmaybe Blizz is planning to release all these classes in multiple expansions and/or DLCs since the devs have confirmed their âmonetization modelâ for D4 is a base game and expansions.

Yes. I agree. I hope they remove the individual loot and other things which were done to make it more âfriendlyâ and âconvenientâ.
I would like to see the bard. It was a character in diablo 1 that you had to put code in notepad and add him to game but going dark should always have the bard to sing those stories and kill demons with music magic. Bard would be amazing.

Him not being european is a plus? Thatâs odd. Monk is not really european in appearance or design.
WD has interesting and unique things, race is not one of them.
I akso found odd that you first compared monks to a different take on paladins and a few lines after that you seem to compare it + DH with amazon and assassin. DH is a mix of both of those, monk is out of this one.
As for your speculations, I donât think so. I would expect at least one pure diablo 3 class to make its way to base d4. Wizard is d2 sorceress. Barbarian and druid are also classic d2 classes.
We have nothing from the unique takes d3 has. My bet would be monk. The other class would be amazon.

It would be great if they introduce completely different classes in D4. I loved all classes in all D games, but I do want something new. You know guys, its 21 century already, letâs think out of the box - give us new experience.
The beauty of Amazon in D2 was that she combined melee and range, and melee Amazon was my favorite class. Having a new DEX class that can progress melee, range or mix of this 2 would be a win-win, I think.
They will definitely introduce range archetype, the only question - can they make it different and interesting to play.
And regarding Pal and Monk - they both good, but I think that aura (mantra) mechanics outdated already. In D2 it was a passive skill, in D3 they tried to add some active features, but there is no fun to play like this.
What they can do in D4 is to move auras into passive tree as a separate branch to develop OR/AND they can do them bipolar: by default it gives you some bonuses, but when something happens (you press a button, some conditions met, legendary item etc.) it becomes a curse and affects monsters.
And shields - I think they failed with the shields in D3. Shields should mean survivability, and this is not the case in D3. Crusaders do not have fun skills with shields.
And what concerns me a lot in current state of D4 - Brabs have 2 extra slots for weapons, so they are the only choice for players who love loot hunt (I believe we all do, thatâs why we play Diablo). Blizzard should introduce something similar to other classes, or not similar but something different and great, unique to each class, something that will interest me (from gameplay perspective) to play other classes. Druid already has this shapeshifting, which is not bad but still not GREAT, but Sorc has nothing at all right now.
To summ it all up: Blizz, we love Diablo because of gameplay and mechanics that are fun to play and investigate. We do not want another D2 (you already understood why D2 was better than D3, we could see this from D4 gameplay), now stop copy-pasting and give us something new and great. Who else if not you =)
I agree with Rhykker that the two remaining classes based on the items that they showed would be either the Rogue from D1 if no gender lock. Or the Amazon for the gender lock. The second one would probably be Paladin because of the shields. More so if Barbarians donât use shields. He even said that one of the shields has a design on it that could suggest Zakarum symbol on it. So he might be right about the final two classes.
Range is must have, i think it will be Hunter (bow & trap).Another i prefer some kind of dark magic,Warlock (curse & summoning).i do hope old character can come back like Amazon or Necromancer. But this is D4,i prefer we can have some new classes
If you think Diablo is going to release without a pet class, youâre high af
Analyzing prior games, there should be an archer and a holy warrior. These roles were filled by Amazon and Paladin in D2, and Demon Hunter and Monk in D3.
My guess is Assassin will be reworked to fill the archer role.
My initial gut check would be seeing a Cleric, focused on shield play, holy smiting, and an angelic warrior focused on ElâDruin or Alâmaiesh.
Edit: The more I thought about this and read prior comments, I believe some form of cultist, that uses angelic power and death magic will be the fifth class. The necro paladin hybrid. The REAPER.
2nd edit: Which all classes first initial is an acronym Easter Egg for the first DLC class.
Most likely there will be an amazon type (bow user), because thereâs no Dexterity user out of the current 3 classes. Also maybe a support class like a monk or priest.

Be curious to see which is more popular the necromancer or one of those two. I think it will be necromancer since they worship Lilithâs son.
Zon, Necro, and Paladin (6 starting classes and 6 player party).

Amazon and Necro sounds good to me.
itâs not about, what you want or what you didnât see for a long time
the characters have to cover a certain range
we dont have any character yet, who even uses a shield
and ofc a ranged character
so my vote goes for paladin and rouge/hunter
D2 character animation is ahead of its time for sure.
I think we can expect a ranged character. Potentially a new class by name as I think the Amazon wonât quite fit for lore reasons.
Maybe we shall see a âRogueâ as typically the rogues were bow wielding characters in d1/d2 but it would allow them to fit in the dagger wielding mechanics as sort of the other side of the coin which we typically expect of rogues.
A ârogueâ/scoundrel would let them sort of mix up all the favourite ranged abilities whilst also provide trap and dagger gameplay. (fluid weapon swapping has been a theme for the barb/druid so i could see this happening potentially)
That would allow our remaining character to be the Paladin or âof the lightâ character variant. Maybe this character can take up both the sword and shield but also like the templar have Spear options. Wielding heavy armour and giving plenty of medieval knight fighting options and buffs/teamplay
They could go maybe the other way with like the monk for the âdaggerâ/âclawâ gameplay but I think itâs a bit too high fantasy and sticking with a sort of Rogue would keep things gothic/dark
