I’m expecting the top clear to be low 120s (with high paragon) for TR with this set. Using CC3, Flavor CoE Orotz + Shenlongs with Cesar’s worn, Balance, Stone Gauntlets (or MoC) and RoRG cubed. Cold TR. Permanent Epiphany for DR/CC immunity, just channel TR til Cold, pop Mystic Ally - Air to force cap spirit to proc Shenlongs and let go of TR to pop the cold rune on cycle.
There was a basically identical version of this tested during the PTR when Inna’s was 15k that was around 120-122, the PoJ version will have a little more damage and toughness.
I am still hopeful that this set gets changed again to not require Tempest Rush. I very much want to play the generator version from the last PTR, and the set to be more SW focused and not just a knockoff version of SWK.
I’m not sure if that will work as you think it will. Shen Long’s drain will make it difficult to maintain Spirit for TR to build up Flurry stacks (when Shen Long procs it disables passive spirit regen like Epiphany, Inner Storm, Air Ally and PoJ 4 piece). With the additional Spirit regen from the 4 piece, it will be very easy to channel TR and your spirit will almost always be maxed out and thereby proccing the Shen Long Drain.
The previous version would just sit at 99% spirit and required you to pop Mystic Ally to actually force Shenlongs to proc if you were channeling TR the whole time. While I doubt that was intended, that’s how it worked. If that is fixed then the next best option will likely be Istvan’s or Flying Dragon. I still don’t see a scenario where you use VW.
how does it work with sittin on 99%? i mean if your reg is more than your consumption then you hot the 100%, if its less you drain or is there a mechanic never reaching 100% as long as you channel?
I think because you are constantly draining it just registers you as max -1 until you actively generate that 1 and tip it over to trigger the buff. Again, I doubt it was intended, but it worked on that PTR.
I tested Istvan’s Paired Blades a while ago with Inna’s and the damage was pretty good but the spirit drain was insane. Istvan PoJ may be the way to go.
One other side note: I was recently goofing around with Inner Fire and Bluster TR and the Inner Fire rune spawns a crazy amount of Epiphany clones. Since PoJ buffs everything (along with Istvan’s, MoC, CC3), that may be a way to go forward. The Bluster rune provides a knockback to proc Cesar’s and the Inner Fire provides a lot of AoE (no match for Explosive Light but it is something).
Oh man, this brings me back years. There used to be a diablo player called “Druin” who was basically running this before they introduced heavy dmg modifiers on skills: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-GCwwhYVYI
Yeah, I remember that build too. Most enjoyable TR build I ever played. Definitely gonna set that up with the new set for some fun.
Probably too late but I was thinking about Eye of the Storm and thought it would be cool if it made cyclones release a flurry when you did. Help out with that low AoE problem.
So the build I’m thinking is:
Patterns of Justice gloves, shoulders, helm, chest and boots
Captain Crimson belt and pants
Istvan’s Paired Blades
Cesar’s Memento
Flavor of Time
Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac
Convention of Elements
Cube Balance, Mantle of Channeling (or Strongarm Bracers or Magefist) and RoRG
Active Skills: Inner Fire, TR Bluster, SW, Blinding Speed, Serenity Ascension and Blinding Flash Faith in the Light.
Passive skills: Beacon, Momentum, Sieze the Initiative and Relentless Assault
Legendary gems Trapped, Gogok and Taeguk
If you have max cooldown in every location then you can have 77% CDR with Gogok which is more than the 75% CDR needed for 100% uptime on Epiphany. With the 20 spirit per second from Epiphany and 50 from the 4 piece PoJ set plus Inner Storm you are genetating 78 spirit for channeling TR which should easily sustain TR even with Istvan’s attack speed, Gogok’s attack speed and Sieze the Initiative’s attack speed. That should make TR hit pretty hard. The build can be run as a Cold TR Flurry build if you change to Frostburns in the cube and change Inner Fire to Ascendance. You lose some AoE from dropping Inner Fire but gain the high burst potential of Flurry. You can have up to 60% Cold or Fire with Frostburns or Magefist in the cube respectively plus your bracers and amulet.
Sounds interesting but I don’t think it will have enough toughness to live as a melee build. You have 50% from set, 27? 28% from CC3, maybe 25% from MoC, 10% armor from Taeguk, 30% Armor from IB and a bit more dodge from Gogok but no defensive passives, no Desert Sand, no Mantra, no Unity, no Spirit Guards, no Lefebvre’s.
I think the cube slot will 100% have to be a big toughness item and even then I think you’ll have to make more sacrifices for toughness. At the very least you could swap Orotz for Unity, as if you have enough raw CDR for permanent Epiphany I’m not sure it has value. I don’t know offhand what the CD of Blinding Flash would be at that point but I’m sure it’d be available every CoE cycle anyway. Even with Aquila or Stone Gauntlets + Unity I think the damage intake would still be too high, personally.
Serenity and Blinding Flash are defensive (and flexible slots if needed) and passives could also be changed. Remember that Bluster is knocking back everything you TR through will also help your survivability a bit. In the Cold version, Ascendance is stunning everything that you run through so that helps your toughness in a way. I don’t think it is a contender to WoL, but it should be a fun build.
The best way to take advantage of EP would be Gungdo Gear, so it would likely be cubed (or equipped and cube Cesar’s for max effect). Since the set is reliant on TR and SW to trigger the 6 piece buff, you need an applied EP to detonate to trigger and spread and it makes sense to focus on damage buffs to TR over other things. At high GR’s, even the trash mobs can have too much health to reliably detonate without Uliana 6 piece bonus.
On low tier/t16 that plan works but not higher up. Personally, with your projected 75% range of cdr, you don’t really need gogok or zodiac. I would drop gogok for esoteric or lower the cdr to high 50s and allocate the stats to rcr, pump it to 40 ish. Bottomline is, there are flexibility with the new set, can’t wait for it.
Fyi to others serenity / other cd based skills eats zodiac proc from ephiphany . Pay attention when gears are not optimised that cdr stats are squeezed to just right epiphany refreshes.
Wondering if this is confirmed to still snapshot with Epiphany Inner Fire. In the Druin video he said to hit blinding flash before epiphany every time, to snapshot it.
I’d love to see The Twisted Sword boost both Sweeping Wind and more specifically the SW::Cyclone rune. It could add damage based on the number of cyclones or the number of stacks of sweeping wind.
And Rabid Strike should have an impact on Epiphany::Inner Fire, doubling the damage (or number) of “clones” which attack.
Vengeful wind has an 800% multiplier in the cube on my switch now. Eye of the storm is not in the box, and I just gambled one and it didn’t have a legendary affix on it.
ETA:
Patch notes up now, the changes to Won Khim Lau look really cool
