New Haunted Vision + Pestilence

Before New Haunted visions:
Circle of Nailuj’s Evol + 40 essence => 2 mages
Auto-Numlock Devour / Ruthless + Gift of Death + 2 mages => 20 essence + 2 corpses
Auto-Numlock Devour + Pestilence + 2 corpses => 20 essence + 2 Corpse Lance
Benefit: (20 + 20 - 40 = 0 essence) + 2 Corpse Lance / second
2 Corpse Lance / second

  • Free Corpse Lance generator, low throughput

Example of free Corpse Lance generator by consuming Mages (console):

d3planner com/533223238

After New Haunted visions: (Perma Simulacrum x2)
Circle of Nailuj’s Evol + 40 essence => 6 mages
Auto-Numlock Devour / Ruthless + Gift of Death + 6 mages => 60 essence + 6 corpses
Auto-Numlock Devour + Pestilence + 6 corpses => 60 essence + 6 Corpse Lance
Benefit: (60 + 60 - 40 = 80 essence) + 6 Corpse Lance / second
80 essence + 6 Corpse Lance / second

  • Free Corpse Lance generator, x3 throughput
  • Free essence generator

The free essence generator can be used to maintain Aquila, Maledictions, Bone Spear spam (outside Land of the Dead).

The free corpse generator, thus corpse lance generator, takes advantage of Pestilence 2-pieces Bonus (Each corpse consumed generates 1 free corpse lance). Might work with other sets like Inarius by activating auto-numlock Corpse Lance, but Corpse Lance would probably race with Devour to consume corpses. Unpredictable result here.

Mage animation is still blocking on PC (but not on console, see video). On PC, casting a mage stops you while moving. It is a major drawback to me since auto-numlock mages introduces a movement penalty on PC. Same problem with Grim Scythe Inarius, that said.

Obsidian Ring of the zodiac might not compatible since mages are consumed before beign able to make any damage. You might not be able to reduce LoD cooldown with this mechanic…

…Unless you are holding down your move-mouse button while casting mages, see Post 1 by Diavel for details. In that case, you should probably consider using Skeletal Mage / Skeleton Archer to try to increase your attack speed up to 30%). That would be excellent during Rift Guardian phases.

only if the new haunted visions still casts mages. It states that it can cast grim scythe instead of mages.
The wording is like the rest of this patch pretty vague since it says “can”. I wonder if you have no grim scythe in your bar itll still cast mages?

as for the obsidian issue: if you cast the mages while holding down your move-mousebutton they can attack. If you let them attack once, you could procc obsidian and maybe even use the archer rune of the mages for more attackspeed = faster casting the mages = less delay?

edit thinks: i wonder what happens if you equip haunted visions, cast simulacrum and then unequip it? Need to test and prevent blizz from knowing if it still gets perma but with no drawback :stuck_out_tongue:

Ahaha you have such great ideas :slight_smile:

Pretty sure they cast scythe only if & when you cast it.

They only cast anything when you cast it. They aren’t like other pets that act on their own. They only cast things when you cast something that is on their list, never on their own.

As for the person asking if Haunted Visions cares if you have Grim Scythe on your bar or not, it won’t. The change is clearly there to keep Singularity Mage builds from being able to drop 4 mages at once with double essence all the time. They can either have the double essence all the time, but only get 2 mages in one cast, or they can get 4 mages in one cast, but only in a small window of time.
