New at playing Monk: 2 basic questions about LoD WoL

Hi,

Yesterday, I’ve played my first hours as a Monk. I’ve tried LoD WoL and it’s very fun, I’d like to keep playing it!

However, being a total newbie as a Monk, there are a few basic things I don’t understand.

First of all, I read on maxroll that “We need at least 55% Cooldown Reduction to keep Epiphany up at all times”. I currently have 56,30% but I’m far from having Epiphany on uptime, which makes me very squishy. How comes? My assumption is that I don’t proc ORotZ enough… even though I use WoL/Explosive Light a lot. Obviously, I am missing something pretty big about the gameplay…

Second of all, I completed a gr115 and I though I’d complete a gr118 very easily as I was about 7 minutes early when the boss (Voracity) spawned. However, I wasn’t able to harm it much as I was getting OS all the time, even after I cast Epiphany, so I just quit the game. What should I do in order not to get OS before a RG? (apart from augmenting my gear, ofc) (Specification: I had put 600 parangon points in Vitality for a 1M points life pool, and my gear is all Ancient, though not perfectly rolled at all).

Thanks for your tips!

You will proc ORotZ whenever you cast WoL and actually hit something, the most likely reason that causes you to fail refreshing Epiphany is you cast other abilities with cooldown too often, like Dashing Strike.

ORotZ reduces only one of your skills on cooldown by one second randomly each time.

As to why you get OS by RG, you have to keep in mind that Squirt’s Necklace debuff increases your damage taken by 50% at 10 stacks and you’re using SoJ instead of Unity.

Many thanks, that’s exactly the kind of advice I needed to read!

I’ll try again tonight!

LOD WOL is very powerful with alot of multipliers.

What I do not understand how Crudest Boots and Bindings of the Lesser Gods play into WoL. I do play with them and noticed everything die alot faster when I cyclone strike before spamming WoL. I assume they are considered Mystic Ally then?

The clone from Rabid Strike gets the bonuses for Mystic Ally, so it gets the buffs. (So, the clone will be doing more damage than you are!)

Those Clones are dumber than the Mystic Allies though… Many a times I’d see the clone spamming WOL behind a wall not hitting anything.

Do Clones benefit from Area Damage?
Trying to roll off DEX from a Kyoshiro to either AD, +10% or +Life per Spirit Spent.

Should I get +Mystic Ally attributes on Shoulders and Chest?

My gut instinct says no, since procs don’t proc procs, and the RS clone is a proc so…

The clone can get left behind far away from you if you constantly cast WoL and move/dash forward (like stutter stepping). When that happens you have to wait for a few seconds to let the clone despawn.

And yes, clone does benefit from AD.

Here is my understanding:
Clones generated by Rabid Strike benefit from mystic ally buffs, as Cattleya noted.
The clones will mimic wave of light that you cast when epiphany is active.
Their damage derived from the Mystic Ally skill is minimal, compared to damage dealt by Wave of Light.

Thus, rolling Wave of Light damage increase on gear is of major benefit, but Mystic Ally damage increase is not.
