Nerf Enigma and Grief

I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one who prefers Last Wish. It’s my favorite item in the game.

As to Enigma, I can’t speak to PvP, because I don’t PvP in Diablo, for that I go to Eve Online. For PvM Enigma doesn’t reign supreme - for example Javazons are better served with Chains of Honor, teleport is just not really needed.

PvP is mostly where my experience comes from with Enigma that and making it easier to dump all points into vitality.

Hammerdin, hurricane/grizzly druids, Act 5 merc, Summon Necro’s, even the barbs, there was also an Asn build all just teleporting on top of each other hoping to kill the other, its just dumb. The poor Sorc is just there at the town entrance looking ahead “that was my thing”

Last Wish is great unless you’re using a reaper’s merc. Then your lifetap will constantly override the decrepify. Based on my testing grief + reaper’s toll on merc (with high IAS on merc from Treachery) gives you the best overall damage output, especially if you’re using dual grief pb with a frenzy barb. As soon as that decrepify hits from the merc you just tear through everything. Use enigma to bring the merc to you, drop him like a decrepify bomb. Use gface on barb and the merc for the added cb and ds. Lots of fun, though still does less overall damage than several other non-melee builds.

Good luck getting all the HRs for Last Wish in the Remaster without dupes ingame and shorter ladders.

There is no way you can find Jah and Ber in two weeks. MAYBE you’d be able to trade for the runes, but would have to get comparable uniques to trade.

If you’re lucky and play a lot and are farming the right density areas, you might get one Vex+ HR every week after doing a couple hundred full Chaos or Cow runs.

Without botting, there is simply no way people will get some of these runewords.

I’m gonna need it, but the search will sure be fun and I’ll put all my trading savvy to great work!

haha omg, this post was originally titled "nerf enigma and BotD " now it’s titled “nerf enigma and Grief”. Non-melee chars dish out way more damage with infinity than any melee char can ever dish out using both Grief and Enigma, this makes zero sense. And anyways, the devs have already said no items are changing, so it’s not going to happen.

Removing bots and duping and the normal drop rate of runes will already “nerf” someone of the runewords and hard. Lets say ladder season lasts 3 months, no casual player will ever see Enigma or Botd and so on, on ladder, just not gonna happen.

But, because of the of this, runewords in PvP are going to be OP as ever before, word GRIEF will fit perfectly xDD

Edit: my post didnt make much of a sense, i just pretty much agreed that runewords are op, but thats the way with rw’s, any “serious” PvP’er will have them anyway.

Botd is outdated. Grief is better

I will get my grief again without troubles. Had a selffound ww dual grief barb, two LO runes in one week, ancient tunnels.

Problem only, that all uniques are crap compared to that.

dont nerf enigma, only reason mostly to play other classes then sorc. very stupid if they ever did that.

technically it depends on the build but in the vast majority of melee cases this is indeed true

They basically indicated they’re launching with zero balance changes to classes or items during the Q&A at least at first and will pay attention to player feedback.

Perhaps to spice things up in the future, they can consider ladder-only balance changes that they test on only during ladder seasons. That way people that want a more pure experience of oldschool D2 will always have non-ladder, but they can experiment more with ladder seasons and see what people like.

Also, I’m curious about some of the back and forth on rune drops. I never ever had the runes to build an enigma, but I stopped playing before they buffed the drop rates in 1.13 or whatever. That was playing A LOT back in the day. I had dozens of mules full of crap that I never used, but I never had the runes to make any rune words that required higher lvl runes.

For those of you who played both before and after they buffed rune drop rates, how noticeable was the change? Could you easily build rarer rune words without trade?

I personally don’t recall much difference among the HRs at any point but we’re talking so long ago. Without trading Runewords can be a rough deal regardless.

We’ll see what happens in a world with no dupes. I am a bit skeptical Blizz can stop it though.

Just my personal experience. I played 1.10-1.13 and then just the 2 seasons (the prior one I didn’t play the full season). To my knowledge, in all the time I played pre-1.13 I only ever found 1 Jah and 1 Ber and that’s it for runes Vex+ and that was a lot of game hours. One of the runes was found in the Pit and the other in The Halls of Anguish. In just the last 2 seasons (really since November of 2020), my friend and I have found 4 or 5 HRs (Vex+) and a number of Guls/Ists/Mals. So to me it’s been noticeable.

easy, hell travi runs with hoarker barb + cube lower runes. “one vex a week” that’s just laughable.

Easy…

The Travincal super uniques drop chance is the following:
Lo - 1:246658
Jah - 1:300867
Ber - 1:334084
Cham - 1:451301

Though a Barb with high level Find Item would give you more opportunities to see loot spawn, you’re still against those odds. I wouldn’t say any of that is easy.

Lets say you cube Hel runes:
Hel - 1:7011

You would need 3888 Hel runes to get even 1 Ist. Not to mention all the gems to upgrade in your limited stash space.

I wish you were right, or that I’m missing something here.

Enigma and Grief doesn’t need a nerf. Nonetheless, the runeword system will remain the same.

Scary numbers are scary until you do some running and see those vex+ runes drop consistently every ~150-ish runs. And I don’t cube hel runes, I cubed vex+. And yes “easy” is here in regards of some actual rare items, like say tyraels, which I found a total of zero during my many years of playing this game. When you start looking at it in that perspective, something that consistently drops every couple or so hours in travi is indeed easy. And yes you will see first enigmas ready during the first week of the launch. And first self-made enigmas in 2-ish weeks time. The only problem there was stupid bnet with its “realm down” for running that travi too fast, which you had to have several cd-keys and dynamic IP to bypass.

I do wonder how they will address realm down/super quick games. I HATED being randomly locked because I was spamming pindle/short run games.

New battle net integration so maybe they won’t have as strict of a limit.
