can only speculate and wonder what brought about this 180 of course some are saying it had to do with top raiding guilds using it to bypass the downsides of the Covenant systems thus Blizzard suddenly decided to change their stance

To be fairly honest, it doesnā€™t say explicitly that multiboxing is now prohibited. What it does say is that software mirroring user inputs to multiple clients is prohibited which are often used in conjunction with multiboxing.

Multiboxing should still be fine as long as each client is treated individually and user inputs are not mirrored to multiple clients simultaneously.

Isnā€™t that the very definition of Multiboxing?

Multiboxing is running multiple clients on the same computer simultaneously. As long as each client is still controlled individually, thereā€™s in principle nothing wrong with it.

Finally.

It is what most people understand by multiboxing. And it is what makes it problematic.

But you can have and play multiple accounts at the same time, without using software to control them at the same time. It just isnt very effective.

Exactly. Multiboxing is often seen bad because the other software used alongside with it, particulary the now prohibited input mirroring software.

Multiboxing itself isnā€™t bad.

Originally each ā€œboxā€ was an individual computer running an instance of a game. The keystrokes were transmitted using various hardware solutions so that using one keyboard and mouse sent commands to each computer.

Many years later with tech advances, people would run multiple instances of the game on one PC and use software to send the keystrokes to each game client.

In and of itself MB is not bad, BUT it can be very disruptive and some of the software used to make it work can be used for far more nefarious things. If Blizz wants to target that software then by default it ends up taking out MB software too. ā† I really really think this is the key.

It does not prohibit people from having and using multiple accounts though - and I did check with CS on that. They could still park the chars somewhere, finish a task on a main, then manually tab to each game instance and do whatever they want that char to do - one by one.

They are targeting the software - not the concept of Multiboxing overall.

You can assume it will be across the board with how rules are applied - assuming the anti cheat software/game can detect it.

if they have one this year i cant wait to see the Q&A panel of the online Blizz-con due to this you just know the place is going to be a fiasco

I really donā€™t think so. Multiboxing is a niche kind of thing. Not many people do it, but those that do are passionate.

HOWEVER the bulk of the playerbase in WoW dislikes multiboxers a lot. They find them disruptive or borderline cheating and have asked for Blizzard to stop it for YEARS. Since WoW started even.

The niche MB folks will be upset, just like they were when Blizz disabled Follow in BGs, but most WoW players will rejoice. I really donā€™t expect any questions about it to come up at Blizzcon.

Besides, dedicated people will find hardware solutions like they did so many years ago. They might just have to go back to TRUE multi boxing with separate PCs.

I once saw 10 multi box characters womping on a elite, but mainly they use it to abuse farming in the game, either for resources or rep.

Is multiboxing even much of a thing in Diablo?

Seems like youā€™d get better results out of a well tuned farming group.

Helps at season start running 4 of same to get the set to drop you want faster, but after that more annoying then anything with desyncs and having to regather them.

Some people do it, but as you said it is not really efficient. A group of 4 humans is much better.

The issue really is that the software can be used, even on one account, to bot and automate gameplay. MB is not the issue, the software is.

I believe the option in Settings of the Blizzard App (Launcher) allows multiboxing. (See image below).

That is correct. If Blizzard were banning multiboxing on the whole, that option would have been removed in a BDA patch and deployed today during the maintenance downtime.

If it ever applies to Diablo 3 i will not be coming back and will not be playing Diablo 4.

Currently about 1,300 posts in that thread, most of whom seem pretty happy about the change.

lol sureā€¦if you have 5 sets of hands and 5 headsā€¦everyone knows that multiboxing in D3 is automated for all installsā€¦

Get rid of it and get rid of the num lock cheat. Ban the HUDers and actively ban the botters. Every day of the season. Non-stop.

The only people whoā€™ll be unhappy are the cheaters.
