I love the altar perk to make pets pick up and salvage items, but so often my pet will just outright ignore them to pick up breaths instead
So many times i’ll have a giant pile of items at my feet and rather than pick them up to salvage them, my pet will walk nearly off screen to pick up a single deaths breath that i don’t need at all
It honestly slows the pet down so much it makes me feel like “Pets pick up deaths breaths” is a downgrade on the altar, and it’s always the last node i pick
Hell i wouldn’t pick it at all if i could still get the double primal bonus
So any chance you could tweak the priority settings on pets to focus on picking up items first? or maybe make it so you can either not select or de-select the pets pick up deaths breath node but still have double primal final node
It’s a long shot since we’re in maintenance mode, but its one of the few pet peeves i still have that could be solved so easily
WOW People complain when they had to pickup stuff. Now we have some body complaining the pet is not picking it up stuff fast enough.
People complain they didn’t have enough death breath. Now we some body complaining I have to many.
The only time I seen this problem is in a Ancient Vault or a Goblin area in a vision. Plus that is when you have more then 2 people in there too. When that happens I help the pet by picking up gold & DB too. Other then that I give my pets a grade A+
Now what do you tell non season people that they have to pickup everything other than gold. So do US a favor help your pet out a little, they’re helping you!!!
It is basically automated at this point. They pay so little attention to D3 they didn’t change the end date for S33 after the start was delayed causing the season to end without warning.
Not being rude but it isn’t even a long shot. The odds are somewhere between none and zero. Enjoy what we have while we have it.
The pets sometimes need to be guided one way or another. So standing still or moving in the “wrong” direction, depending on the map, can have a less desirable effect.
At the moment, I am playing FotH in season, with no goal whatsoever as far ranking in the leaderboard is concerned. All I do is speed GR124 and VoE. My only goal is to farm XP and FSs for my NS Sader, to whom any kind of legendary item would not be an upgrade. So if my pet was able to recycle legendary items, it would save me a looot of time.
More generaly, having a choice (in this case, being able to tick a few boxes about what you want/don’t want your pet to recycle) always seems like a good idea to me
Ideally, being able to customize what and how your picks up loot would be a great feature. As we more than likely will not get any further development, picking up DBs yourself as you stated is the best workaround. I usually pick up DBs as I go and it keeps the pet up with me.
Hard pass on this. The pet is already too slow picking up gold, dbs, and yellows/blues/whites. Adding another thing to the list would just add to the problems the OP is bringing up. On top of this, early in the season, I don’t wouldn’t want my pet auto-salvaging regular legendaries.
Better idea would be to have a “salvage all normal legendaries” button at the blacksmith.
Thank you for the condescending tone in stating the obvious, but that’s exactly what i try to do most of the time
But the pet going for that first usually means i end up accidentally picking up some random salvageable item while clicking where the deaths breath used to be in the item stack, hence the annoyance
I would actually like it if i could just remove the pet picks up breaths altar node and always pick up breaths myself, but 1). you can’t de-select nodes, and 2). that would mean losing access to the double primal drop
Yeah probably not, but it doesn’t hurt to ask
Except for it somehow hurting people who seemingly take offense to even the slightest QoL suggestion
I just stated the obvious, you’re the one who get stuck on detail. When it’s near, you just pick it yourself, if it’s far away you let pet take care of it. If this frustrates you, I just say it’s time to take a break from the game.
I do that all the time because as I move forward I thought they were Veiled Crystals or Arcane Dust. It is not a common occurrence that I pick low grade items between DBs; that only happens if your pet get stuck on some obstacle far away OR you were hasty from a standing position.
Try to move back and forth to call it near, or look before going into a clicking frenzy, so your pet will get the signal of following you to salvage anything nearby. They usually prioritize salvaging and picking far away loot regardless of their type more than nearby ones, so you need to move to call them back.
In case you don’t mind, you can always use those low grade items on the material conversion recipes from Cube and gain back by the rate of hundred, or salvage them yourself which is not a big deal. If you ever ask, why would you use conversion of materials when you have plenty of it already; then why don’t you just drop those accidental low grade item pick ups on the ground and leave it there? It clearly doesn’t worth the effort for you then.
From my observations it appears the Pet goes for items farthest away from my Character and works itself back. It gets as far as it can until it reaches the point where it can’t go any farther without having to return to me. At that point it seems to get stuck. Like it’s trying to decide whether it should go outside its “patrol” (?) range or pick up stuff closer. It can’t decide. But, if I start to move, it’ll pick up what it can and return.
I don’t know who writes the code for D3. And I’m not a programmer. But, it seems to me that Blizzard could have coded the Pet AI to just pick up whatever is closest to it, in any direction. I can’t help but feel that would solve most, if not all, of this problem.
In the meantime, I use force move, click on Death’s Breaths, Gems, Legendary items and run over Gold whenever my Pet gets “disoriented”. Before we had Pets, we had to pick up everything ourselves.
If you set your game up the way he explained, you’ll see “anvils” for materials and other icons like rings or what have you for equipment. My errant “picked up a stray yellow” clicks has dropped to near-zero since doing this. Kudos to him for putting in the effort to make screenshots and whatnot
Also yeah this is something i notice a lot to, my pet will get confused and run between 2 different drops seemingly changing its mind to run back to the other 1 just before it gets to it, then it’ll pingpong between it for a few seconds before actually picking 1 up
Yeah. I forgot to mention it in my previous post. But, there’s a priority to how Pets pick up items too. I don’t know exactly what it is, but this is what it seems like (to me):
Pick up items farthest from the Character and work back.
Pick up Death’s Breaths.
Pick up items.
Pick up Gold.
That’s why I said, if Blizzard coded the Pet AI to just pick the nearest item in any direction. We wouldn’t have many of those Pet problems.
It wouldn’t matter what the item was. Pick it up and move to the next closest item. As your Character moved forward, your Pet would continue along with you, picking up items as you go.
As it is, this “eenie-meenie-minee-mo” method is ridiculous. Especially in a game designed around “do this before the timer expires”.
Since I run a lot of Not the Cow Levels, I’ve found that the pets sometimes get caught on those little fences that sometimes surround a white chest. To fix it, I have to take a little jaunt away from the fence and chest, the pet teleports to me, and with a new angle to the item I want picked up it’ll dash off to pick up the item.
Since I’m a DH with Smoke Screen/Displacement on numlock on my UE speed set up, it only takes a fraction of a second to get away from the pet far enough for it to teleport to me.
I mean, I guess it would be more efficient to pick up the random blue or yellow item myself, but salvaging all the legendaries and clicking the appropriate salvage button for the other items take about the same amount of time.
As far as in Visions, I’ve found stepping a little further away from the pet when it’s far away from you will result in it teleporting to you and will go for stuff that’s closer to you before going back to the edge of the screen while I’m picking up the legendaries it left behind.
