I think its clear D2R isn’t going to just be a one and done game like the 90s/early 00s where you only see an expansion or update every 6 months. It’s going to get the modern community support treatment that a lot of games of today have. This is a good thing, I think Diablo 2 as a game and community deserves that.
A live game means it can be updated on the fly. For example League of Legends has buffs/nerfs every two weeks. Epic Games can (and has) make a change and revert it the next day if there is community backlash.
The Coalition (Gears) has community live streams on Twitch to talk about updates and community feedback - It’s funny because Rod Ferguson actually has done this so he has the experience.
It’s also nice when the community feels alive and active on the official boards/reddits.
It doesn’t have to mean they’re going to add fairy wings. It just means they’re open for community feedback.
Referencing the interview from this video, please direct any anger towards Rhykker and not myself:

Why does it feel like all of these posts are designed to do nothing but stir the pot and get people agitated?

The only way I don’t see this happening is if the game sells less than a million copies. So let’s pray that people don’t buy this game guys.
Best quote from this vid is
“This notion of, oh, you should rebalance the game, you should fix these things, that kind of went away. We’re not trying to fix the game. We’re not trying to build Diablo III. That game’s already been made, it turns out.”

He is quoting the game makers. Blizzard no longer selling a boxed product. They sell a license to access their game along with the updates. https://venturebeat.com/2021/09/17/the-retrobeat-diablo-ii-resurrected-readies-for-launch-during-a-dark-time-at-blizzard/
GamesBeat: What is the post-launch support going to look like for Resurrected?
Gallerani: Right when we come out, we won’t have [a ranked] ladder. The reason we’re doing that is because we’re also going to be watching the game to continually support it as it comes out. With ladder, obviously it’s a race to hit level 99. The moment the clock turns over and everyone jumps in, we want that to be as smooth an experience as possible. Right now we can definitely commit to supporting the game, improving that experience for everyone, and hitting the start of our first — well, I don’t even know what season we’re on in real ladder, but we’ll probably call it the first season of ladder in Resurrected.
From there we’ll see what the community wants. We don’t really make a boxed product anymore, where we give it to you and we’re done with it. It’s a live game, a live service. We’ll continue to have that relationship between us and the community as they start playing it.
GamesBeat: Is new content on the table, like an Act VI? Is that a possibility?
Gallerani: I will never deny it. It’s not on the table right now. But it’s not off the table either. Like I said, we’re focused on getting that authentic, nostalgic experience right. Even smaller things, like retuning how the blizzard works, or maybe making a build that’s not a Hammerdin, new runewords, new items, those are all really exciting things, but we want to make sure we stick the landing first. As long as the community says, “Yeah, you did good,” then we can have the next discussion.
Yes you have.

Good. I’m glad they plan to support the game post release and possibly balance some things etc.

I like everything about him aside from that overly embellished radio announcer voice.
Well deal with it cause you did.
It’s the modern age, modern tech and modern coding. They WILL fix the exploits and glitches people used to take advantage of, PVE, PVP, shop glitches, trading glitches, mule exploits, cube exploits, they’ve already said they will be adding new content that doesn’t harm the original game any.
I think both sides are grossly misunderstanding what this means.
This means they are going to fix random bugs that arise and tweak some things if the community demands it. (like reversing WSG as they did before due to player feedback)
This does NOT mean that they are going to continually patch/update/add content as if this is a subscription based game like World of Warcraft. More QoL features like Rune stacking? yes, very easy add. Altering some skills/runewords for ladder season? Yes also easy. Additional content? Obviously not.
Besides, D4 is coming. If they kept adding content to D2 then we’d never care to switch over. Its just not gonna happen.

When they updated WoW’s graphics, should they have just stopped patching it?
Nonsense. The same can be asked about Diablo 2. I would ask, why does a remaster mean the original game MUST stop development? Makes no sense.
I would agree with him on what a remaster means. But the issue is if Blizzard should never continue patching their game. Yes, a game should not change due to being a remaster. But, this is an irrelevant factor in deciding whether or not Blizzard should put an end to development of the original Diablo 2. There is nothing that says development has ever stopped. Balance changes were coming as late at 2011. They’re just overdue.

I’m glad to see they’re adding some definition to NL and ladder. Before it split the community up in an unnecessary way (in my opinion).
It looks like they’re adding an updated ladder UI which shows off your placements:
Q. As ladder items are available in singles, the burden on ladder items has virtually disappeared. Are there elements that can only be enjoyed in ladder play other than ‘competition’?
Rob Galerani: There is a system that keeps multiple records when moving on to the next ladder, and through this, users can feel proud.
That is mostly for streaming. IRL he is a very quiet and very very nice person. Not that he is not nice on stream too, but yeah. He is a good source for general news, friendly chat, and he has fun with “speculation” too which is entertaining as long as you don’t read into it.

Can’t say I’ve ever watched his stream, but I do catch the occasional YT video and I’ve always enjoyed his content. May have to check him out on Twitch since I’m getting back into the D2 scene.
Rhykker likes all things Diablo. He also streamed/streams? a lot of D3 content.
Pretty sure I did jump in and watch some of his D2 playing during the Beta.
If he does what he normally does, he will keep a pretty “news” oriented set of vids along with sort of causal friendly builds and stuff.
Then there are others who focus on theorycrafting, lore, hardcore, etc.
Great group of folks overall so there is a wide variety of content out there between the streamers.
I met Rhykker (and several others) a few times IRL at Blizzcon and associated Blizzcon events.
