Planing to start the season SSF normal and saving the cache. Dislike doing chests or halls of agony or any kind of kills streak
Aiming to do as many visions as possible since they help alot with the mats needed for the altar as well.
Never tried it to level up before, I do know Visions open inside it, was just curious if the XP is better than just doing bounties.
The monster density and experience seem to be higher, plus you can get shard right away from Butcher or Leoric and gems right away from the magic stone at the near end. Matches up with the themes very well.
Oh shoot, really? soulshards drop from the bosses there? Had no ideea. Awesome!

Yep! At T16 they get really wild too by far better than any other boss in the game as they’ll drop all of them x2 (or 1.5x whatever…it’s a ton!)

one achievement is lvling a character inside to 70 if i remember correctly
plus all the soul shards will drop in there like dollar bills at the strip club on bonus night

Is the XP better than doing bounties? Yes. Is it more efficient? Are you going after Haedrig’s Gift?
If no, go for the event. It’s just something different to do that the traditional leveling.
If yes, do you want to do something different? The thing is, you’re still going to have to do bounties. It takes roughly 12-14 T6 bounties to level from 1-70. If you could do T6 the entire way, you’re talking 3 Acts, and still 2 Acts you’d have to do at 70.
But, even with a multiplier, at the beginning of the season, you can’t really do T6 the entire way. The people doing T6 the entire way are more focused on lesser enemies, whereas bounties will have elites and bosses, both of which can significantly slow you down.
I find it’s most efficient to do one bounty, and then hold off until you’re near 70 (68+), where you can finish the bounties and collect them when you hit 70 for better patterns, as well as Jewel Crafting recipes. That still leaves you with levels 45-68 on how to figure out how to level.

I figure on some bounties, but at least T6 act 1 for a shot a RORG. Need it anyway for gift and the ring so why not.
That’s pretty much my approach. Because you get that one super easy shot at a RoRG. If not, Mad Monarchs Scepter is amazing for leveling if you can cube it.
And as I try to push in leveling advice, we need to stop focusing on 1-70, and view it more as 1-Haedrig’s Gift, though I believe Aly stated before they go for an LoD build and skip Haedrig’s.
(If you’re after an efficient start, being the first to 70 isn’t necessarily being the most efficient post 70.)

I believe The Magic Rock is always found on Labyrinth Level 5… if it spawns.
@BehindTimes posted this video the other day. (By the way, thanks BT. I picked up a couple of tricks myself from it).

If soul shards drop easily from low lvl bosses the magic rock should not be needed as you can just salvage a shard.
Yes but are you guaranteed to get diamond gems when salvaging soul shard? I dont think so. Im going for mushroom

Let’s take TinneOnnMuin’s timing of going for the magic rock:
Quickest way to farm up a 6 piece set without Haedrig’s - General Discussion - Diablo 3 Forums (blizzard.com)
Average time is 8 minutes, but the median time is 7 minutes. His worst time was 13 minutes. And it’s going to be near impossible not to have 2 diamonds or be able to convert gems into diamonds by two runs.
Now, let’s look at Soul Shards. Remember there are 5 gems, so diamonds aren’t guaranteed, even if you get a Soul Shard. And let’s assume every ZK Run is 1 minute.

So, assuming a 50% drop rate, sure, most people will acquire the diamond faster via Soul Shards. But 20% of people will actually take longer than Tinne’s worst run, and 10% of people will take a lot longer.
But, if we’re talking a 30% drop rate, now only 1/3 people will beat farming the Magic Rock, and 40% of people will take longer than Tinne’s worst run, and Tinne will be Level 70 before the bottom 10% of unlucky players even have a diamond to unlock the second node.
Sure, if you spawn in the game and see a Zoltun Kulle Bounty, go for it. One minute is nothing in the grand scheme of things, and hey, you might get lucky. But I try to focus on consistency to the season start, rather than relying on everything going right. As I said in my confessions thread, in 29 seasons, I’ve only had everything go according to plan once.

Wow…thanks! Really helpful. I did a testrun on mushroom today and i thought it was ok time. Didnt record it but i didnt know the way. If i memorize map it should go quite fast. Im doing mushroom anyway lol

while this is complely awesome and i didnt take it into consideration, the level of the gems you get from the shards is way higher and they sell for a lot more than normal gems and that is the easiest way to level your blacksmith to max fast.

Btw…do you know if i do visions as lvl 1 char does db drop? Or do i have to be atleast lvl 61?
DB’s can drop at any level in Visions.

This is a crucial concept. Alot of fast 1-70 groups slow down at 70. Needs more balanced planning.
Close, but not quite that. The achievement you’re thinking of is to begin the event with a Level 1 0 EXP character and kill the Dark Lord boss at the end. Basically, create a new character, don’t kill anything until you enter the portal and then finish it in one session. Once inside, you can teleport to town “An Erie Red Glow, Blurs Your Vision” is the name of that achievement. There’s nothing tied to leveling a character to 70 in the Darkening of Tristram Event.
I was under the impression that you could get soul shards from bosses regardless of whether they are an explicit bounty or not?
That was actually me (dAddy) but I get that Aly sounds similar
. Nevermind, didn’t realize it was both of us - sorry about that.
Also, thanks again for your help in the other thread - it was my first time ever posting on this forum.
Nope, that was me as well, stated in another thread im ignoring Haedrig o normal, probably will open it on hardcore.
