Imagine telling Leonardo Da Vinci to change the Mona Lisa

At some point i will, i know you will too. Or do you happen to be the only person in existence that has played only d2 for past 20 years?

Not even a little, eh? Except D2R is supposed to replace D2, jumbotron. D2R is supposed to be what is played if we want to play D2. Remember, this is D2 being resurrected - that means D2 is dead. Or mostly dead, if you’re Miracle Max. The painting restoration or heritage building analogy is apt because D2 is faded, decayed - and, surprise, artists are working on restoring it!

But no, the painting analogy doesnt work even a little. Good thinking!

You do realize it isn’t Blizz North that is making the changes right. So your title and analogy isn’t correct.

Even more.

The original Blizzard North leadership/game directors (Brevik and the Schaeffer brothers) left Blizzard 3+ months prior to patch 1.10 release. So having D2R based on patch 1.14 is silly if you want to be true to the original vision for D2/D2:LoD.

Oh? So they’re taking down the original D2 servers on Sept 23rd, are they?

There’s no need to make D2 legacy completely unplayable, but people who would play D2 will now be playing D2R - that’s its purpose, obviously. Does every little word need to be explained? D2R can and will replace D2 without D2’s servers closing… thanks for making me type out something that should be entirely self-evident.

they could have someone make an updated version of the painting based on the original and then put that up in the louvre instead and put the “classic” painting in the vault instead. i guess if they did that the analogy could work.

It’s fine for other copy, use as inspiration but not fine for them to do the same?

I mean, for real.

  • Updated graphics, if isn’t 4:3 already changed the game.
  • Shared stash, it’s QoL that already removes the need of most folks do mules.

I can fo further, D2 LOD changed how D2 Classic were played:

  • Introduced runewords
  • Introduced new items
  • Introduced new content
  • Introduced new classes
  • Introduced QoL
  • Introduced higher resolution

Then what modding community done:

  • Tried to create their own balance
  • Created content
  • QoL stuff that some are used on D2R
  • Created customized experiences

So LOD already changed how d2 were played, they kept both LOD and Classic accessible. Why really bother with D2R if the first thing they say it’s literally a thing that messes entirely with the experience? I mean if you played enough d2 you know the impact of widescreen and uw would have in internal mechannics. Which is why for widescreen and 19:9 they changed how both mercenaries and monsters behave. So it’s not remake neither remaster, it’s a hybrid because to do stuff they need to fix stuff and remove bugs. Like C/T

Again, take time to reflect. The only way to make a remaster without compromises should be keeping 4:3 aspect ratio, if you don’t see it you already want something else that doesn’t entirely are neither d2 lod or d2 classic.

So the point is: how much changes the devs are willing to make to provide their own d2 definitive experience. That’s why they take our feedback and their ideas for d2r.

Edit: the best way to describe d2r would be expansion or just major QoL patch at best.

I’ve come back to it over and over since it came out. You’re the one threatening to leave if you don’t get your way. So do it? It’s already changed and devs have basically said more are coming.
