What’s the original D2 that should be remastered, what’s the true Diablo 1.00, 1.07.1.08.1.09.1.10?
You are aware that Mona Lisa was partially restored? And that it was put behind bulletproof glasses, under a strict atmosphere and other conditions to insure its preservation
That’s exactly what D2R changes are, Restore the graphics and have some change to allow it to survive as long as possible
David Brevik is the original President of Blizzard North and game director for both D2/D2:Lod at their release.
Having said that, I think the diehard D2 fans appreciate Davd Brevik’s effort and value decisions that he made at that time within the context of technical limitations. In 2016, Brevik tweeted that for diablo 2 “Removing the stamina bar and instancing loot are a few things I would love to see.”
Here is twitter feed of interest:
My point is that even David Brevik sees things in Diablo 2 he would change if he could including having personal loot.
My suggestion is to have it so that BOTH are possible and selectable by the player due to their personal preference. Players can choose to play the old way (global loot drops) OR instanced personal loot drops.
Even if you think Brevik mis-tweeted, he reiterated his thoughts on personal loot here:
There are problems with it that some people just aren’t understanding.
For example, those situations when you follow a high level who is tearing apart a chaos 8 player game and he is ignoring all the drops he is getting because he doesn’t need them, and the weaker players are able to pick them up.
With instanced loot, you wouldn’t be able to benefit like that.
So the complaint is that 7 weaker characters in game will not be able to pick up good drops( ~12.5%) ignored by the strong carrier in a personal loot game. They still have access to ~87.5% of the good drops that is much higher than the scenario where the strong carrier takes a much higher percentage of good drops in FFA if your goal is to benefit the 7 weaker characters.
Uh yeah dude. He definitely deserves to pick up the CoA if it drops, if he is the one carrying the game.
And those weak players who actually need Sigon drops and things like Buriza, should be able to sift through ALL the drops to be able to have all that stuff, rather than be limited to personal loot drops that only happen if they get kills, which they won’t be getting many of at all.
Please enlighten us to the work notes and exact functions of how personal loot drops would work. Tell us everything:
How does it split the drops? Are 8 players in a game overall getting more drops per person or less drops or equal?
How does it decide who gets the drops?
Under what circumstances does a person qualify for a drop? Just hitting a monster? Having to get a kill?
When you get a personal loot drop and cannot pick it up because your inventory is full, what happens to it? Does it stay on the ground invisible from other players? If you throw something out of your inventory to be able to pick it up, does that appear for other players to see? At what step in the process of personal loot is an item able to been seen and tangibly interacted with by other players?
How will it effect the economy?
How will it effect classic game play?
Did it ever occur to you that people will be able to abuse personal loot with bots that follow each other around who all get maximum loot from a single boss drop? And it will be much more difficult to detect than old classic bot activity as they could just be designed to look like a guild team XPing together.
The number of total drops between an 8 player FFA game and personal loot game would be identical. In personal loot game assuming that you are in physical proximity to the monster kill, drops would be split according to RNG with its expected ratios and binomial variance.
There are two possible systems: ordered drops and RNG as mentioned above.
Physical proximity for personal loot. In FFA system, there is no requirement to get a drop even if you are in town when the monster was killed.
You either leave it or collect it later.
Yes
Yes
If the player drops an item, links it in chat, or during trades.
It will reduce slightly the number of good items in the economy. You can imagine high level characters may not pickup B-tier items that would be picked up in FFA loot. Therefore, less good items exist in the economy.
Not sure what you mean by this. It will make the game more pleasant for many players (melee vs ranged, high ping, mitigate negative effect of bots/pickit chreats/ninja looters)
It occurred to me that personal loot mitigated the adverse effects of botting. Consider an 8 player game with 1 bot. The bot gets the majority of good loot in FFA game. In a personal loot game, the bot only gets 12.5%.
Catching bots is always a cat and mouse game. Modern warden can catch far more sophisticated bots.
What does it mean though? The drops appear at my feet if a guy 2 screen away is killing monsters? Or I have to go back track over where he played and already killed everything to find my % of loot? Because that would be kind of annoying to be perfectly honest with you.
In a normal drop game, I wouldn’t go back track over a Hammerdin’s progress because I know he would pick up anything valuable, but with ploot I have to wonder “did it drop me an SOj over there? I guess I should go over there and walk back through this guys’ progress.” I wouldn’t want to be given an incentive to worry about that all of the time.
That is just not even in the ballpark of how people will exploit personal loot and how it will effect the economy.
So what’s going to happen here is that I could play on a character designed for pure kill power that has no MF%, and then I could have a bot follow me or 7 bots or let’s even say 7 of my friends who are on 100% pure MF/Goldfind Barbs all with unbelievably high MF% and GF%. So you’re telling me that all we have to do is let my God Slaying Hammderin clear Chaos in 2 minutes while these guys follow me who have virtually 0 damage to contribute while in Hell Difficulty, yet all 7 of them will be able to benefit personal loot with all that jacked up MF% without ever needing to tag kills for themselves? Not to mention following behind me and popping bodies for extra drops?
^ This is absolutely game breaking in every possible way and will super saturate the economy with an inordinate amount of everything, including in-game gold for gambling. And you can INB4 some argument that “people wouldn’t do this” because if ploot was added, people will be doing this on day 1, a lot of people, probably most people would begin arranging their cliques to be able to exploit this.
This is what I’m talking about in this forum. People get so so so LOUD about things that they haven taken the time to write up beta blueprints to actually look at the real cause & effect of what it would do to the game.
Anyway, unless you can stir up a good resolve to that problem right there, ploot is just a bad idea, if not for all the other reasons people have pointed out, just for this one reason that I pointed out.
How would you even address this problem? Because it would need to be tended to before the game’s release, or we’d have some serious problems to deal with.
For FFA loot in a case like this, the legitimate player would get almost no good drops. With personal loot, the legitimate players get more.
Also, the idea that 7 bots will follow you around in a game where they are not your bots is preposterous. With personal loot, the botters would bot in their own game because they would not get as much loot when joining games with legitimate players in a personal loot system.
Now you’re acting like you didn’t understand what I said.
So the only thing I’ll add here, as to actually be productive, is that a character’s MF% should not apply to personal loot unless that character itself is the one who tags the kill. Otherwise, exactly what I said is what would happen.
Good for you. Alot of people will enjoy d2 preserved while they can and when/if changes start rolling in, they will just leave d2 and go play other ARPGs that are built around the changes you want for d2, a better option you know. You can then stay and “enjoy” the Path of Diablocraft abomination you have created.
Dude, repairing and preserving is exactly what VV has done so far! Man, how ridiculous. The graphics and network restoration is the preservation of this old heritage building. That is what is keeping D2 from collapsing into rubble, as youve put it. VV has already restored Diablo 2. Tyrael…
No one should be building modern architecture when they’re restoring an old heritage building. Baal damn it.
This entire thread completely misses the fact that D2:R and D2 are completely separate games. D2’s “history” is still preserved and is there if you want to play it for nostalgia purposes. Meanwhile the rest of us will be playing the new upgraded remaster with lots of new awesome changes. More coming post launch too.
Now we’re getting into some real cognitive twisting - so now D2R and D2 have very little to do with each other, eh? So D2R wasn’t made for people to be able to actually play D2 again, hm? No no, D2 is there for people who want D2 and D2R has been a separate endeavor from the beginning. This kind of rewriting of history is actually frightening.
did i say they had very little to do with eachother? i was literally just pointing out how they are actually separate titles. D2 won’t be changed by D2R. so the whole painting analogy doesn’t work at all. not even a little.
