I wouldn't mind double XP . .

For a mid-season perk, many of us are no where near 5k paragon points.

I am not sure if we get one this Season. The first was in response to the Pandemic lockdowns. They did buffs in the other Blizzard games so Nev (I think?) convinced them to do something for Diablo 3 too. Ours was a bit later, but we got one. They did it again for the next season during the Pandemic based on the feedback - double bounties is super popular so that was nice to do.

I don’t know if they will do another - it would not hurt anything though, i don’t think.

More experience, just means the the 5K paragon people will still be higher. Next it’ll be “many of us are no where near 7k paragon”.

Double XP would be a quite lame mid-season buff. It really wouldn’t make any difference in the relative gap between players.

I’d prefer something more meaningful.

Perhaps a boost to the chance for primal items might be an interesting mid to late season buff. Maybe doubling to quadrupling the chance? It’d perk my interest to do some mid to late season grinding.

I wasn’t aware of that.

It’s meaningful to players that only have 1.2k, 1.5k, 1.8k, ect…

And for 5k and higher paragon players it’s less meaningful?

The point is that players with high paragon will get even higher too. The relative gap between low and high remains exactly the same. The double XP makes zero impact.

Actually it is. Paragon has a point of diminishing returns. At 5k vs 1k that 5 points per level increase in main stat has far less effect on the game.

Double EXP would be good.

Didn’t they start the mid season double ______________ before Covid? Didn’t start with double goblins? Then bounties, then goblins, back to bounties, copy/paste? I thought there was an issue with one of the previous seasons with a major drop in players and the double ______________ was just a ‘hook’ to try and bring them back?

Edit:

Double Experience Points as a mid season goody could work, but it would need to be limited. I would say if you have under 3k Paragon Levels, you get Double Exp. But, just to keep the 3+ Paragons in the loop, they get a +1% (or maybe even less, maybe less than half a percent like a Primal Ancient drop) Experience bonus.

Those diminishing returns are the other major downside of this proposed double XP. A lot of people seem to grossly overestimate the effect of paragon levels. I’ve several times pointed this out myself.

Example: let’s say you have 20k main stat combined from all sources at 2k paragon. Going from 2k to 6k paragon will double your main stat. What does this mean? It merely doubles your DPS which is about 5 GR levels.

I’d rather have something more practical and meaningful than double XP. Increased primal drop rate could be that although I’d rather have that as a permanent QoL upgrade. 1 in 400 on average is a bit miserable.

Indeed. I think what we got this time was Tristram but only time will tell.

Not true at all. The AR and armor that comes from main stat has a tremendous impact. 5k+ players can drop many defensive items/gems that many lower paragon players can not.

Again, diminishing returns. Yes, higher paragon allows to exchange some defensive items/buffs for offensive but it’s not that simple. The diminishing returns apply to armor&AR as well. A higher paragon build might be much glassier than a low paragon even with one item/buff change.

I would like a double cheeseburger and a large order of fries. :hamburger: :hamburger:

Yes it started with Double Goblins but you are wrong about when or why.

It started in Mid- Season 20 April 17, 2020 - after lockdown orders and everyone working from home.

WoW XP buff started March 20th to April 20 - start of COVID - then they extended it for the rest of the summer and fall until SL release. This was in large part for folks stuck inside gaming.

So, seeing as they extended the WoW buff, we got the double Bounty thing for Season 21. We also asked about it on the forums quite a bit

Your mistaken here. There’s no diminishing returns with armor and I’m sure the same applies to AR.

Thanks. Wow, almost a year ago. Good grief Covid, go away already. Maybe, Blizzard will continue the double goodies, we get those goblins this season?

Edit:

Avalon:

Yes. However, make mine a BBQ Bacon Double Cheeseburger! With hot salty fries and an iced cold soda pop to boot.

A quick look at http://rerollcalculator.com/Paragon shows…
XP needed to go from paragon 1-5000 = ~1.94 quadrillion XP = 1940 trillion XP

My seasonal Barb is paragon 1779…
XP needed to go from paragon 1-1779 = ~84.697 trillion XP

That means 1-5000 takes almost 23 times as much XP as 1-1779.

Even if they doubled the XP today, the season lasted another 7-8 weeks, and I earned the same XP in the time left as I’ve earned in the season so far, that would mean I would have earned 3 * 84.697 trillion XP = 254.091 trillion XP. That equates to around paragon 2512.

Using those metrics, unless you’re currently over 3.5K paragon, doubling the XP won’t get you to 5K by the end of the season.

I’m sure the majority of the player base is not expecting to hit 5k with a double xp mid-season bonus, but rather a nice little boost from it. :slightly_smiling_face:
