i have always played a barb, yea i have tried the others. i am not a professional gamer i just been playing diablo for a long time . im not very fast so i normally do not complete the time chest etc. I have tried and played all the characters up to 70 but last season i decided to go all in on a necromancer and loved it, esp two of the builds was great with land of the dead. i decided to go all in on a demon hunter this season and played a few days and quit it. but decided to give it another try and got it to level 700 and 800 plus , but it dies a lot when i try to run greater rifts with others. then i tired the challange rifts which is a demon hunter, and it kicked my but all over the place. i have really started to hate a DH, I cant run the sets and the challange is impossible. so i can not complete the altar now or move forward with it in any way because dahil i can get past the challange rift
The DH has - besides all the Necro set dungeons - probably the easiest set dungeon of all the other classes: Marauder.
This guide really nails it:
Due to the objectives of the map… MANY ITEMS ARE LITERALLY IRRELEVANT!
Marauder Set Dungeon (Mastery, Build, Tips, Objectives) S28 | 2.7.5 | Team BRG
And since a patch back some years back, even the worms are easy to avoid with a tiny tiny bit of care.
Doing the Season Journey and the complete altar is very easy with a (GoD) Gears Of Dreadlands DH! You can just copy ANY GoD built from any of the seasonal modes that finished a GR90. Best to use the in game leaderboards where you can select the set. And even if it does not look like one could, an Echoing Nightmare where you get overwhelmed at 125 is doable with a GoD capable of finishing a GR90…
Good luck!
Well, DH does require a bit different mindset to play than other classes. Unlike for example barbs, you can’t just facetank everything willy nilly. You need to be more strategic.
If you want a relatively easy build to play with, set up a GoD build and you’ll be plowing through enemies like a storm.
I always watch one or more youtube videos showing how to run the Challenge rift… at least if I decide to run it. (Because I realize that I suck at doing them ).
You should also find some guidance in how to set up your seasonal demon hunter. It could be much, much better just by changing a few things. Not that you have to follow a guide slavishly. There is always some wiggle room.
because your build is put together horribly. You are rolling UE.
Why are you using depth diggers and guardian? Use Captains belt and boots/pants and Wraps of Clarity for wrists.
Use Dark Heart instead of side cannons for your Vengeance passive.
Why do you have Rain of Vengeance rolled on your shoulders? Make it CDR.
You don’t need RCR on your gloves, roll CD or CDR or AD.
Instead of BK/COE on your rings use Focus/Restraint.
Why are you using Dawn? Put that in the cube and wear a Yang’s and it needs 12 Disc.
Roll Vit on your chest.
When you get your Captains pieces, please, please don’t roll Evasive Fire and Entangling Shot damage on them. Roll something defensive.
When you get Wraps of Clarity, make sure it has CC and Fire damage.
Make sure your DML has 12 disc rolled on it.
Why are you using 2 generators? They do no damage. Keep Evasive Fire and make Entangling Shot Companion/Wolf Companion.
Change Shadow Power to Vault/Tumble.
Preparation needs Invigoration Rune.
Change Multi-shot rune to Arsenal.
Get rid of Perfectionist and use Ballistics.
If you want the Cheat Death, get rid of Thrill of the Hunt.
No Sin Seekers in the Cube. Use Dawn, RoRG, COE.
Switch out Gogok and put in Bane of the Trapped.
Switch out Stricken, unless you are pushing, and use Bane of the Powerful or, if you still feel squishy, use Esoteric.
You hate your DH because you made a build designed to be the Challenge Rift Build of the Century. Make these switches and you will be running GR 110+ solo. I am playing SSFM HC and am speed running GR110 in 2 minutes and have yet to proc my cheat death.
Marauders is face roll easy. Drop sentries. Don’t touch monsters. Kill monsters. So easy, even a caveman could do it.
UE is somewhat easy. It takes proper positioning and a little monster luring.
Nat’s is somewhat easy.
Shadow is moderate. Takes good positioning and a little luck.
Every class can be squishy and also build around toughness. dh has both speed and if needed getting toughness. Bracer that gives 50 %, sets like captain crimson, ring that gives toughness if used.
thanks for all the advice, its a lot , but really helpful for someone not accustomed to running dh.
No problem.
Just remember, the playstyle for DH in general is very different from a Barbarian. You can’t just stand in the middle of a pile and button mash. You need to be on the edge of the big groups/elites to take advantage of Zei’s and also take less damage.
I know a lot of people berate others for using guides and LB builds, but they can be very helpful in setting up a stable, coherent build until you learn how to play it. Once you get the hang of the builds, then you can customize your build if you are pushing, xp farming, or mat farming. DH builds do have some flexibility, but changing some things will totally break the builds.
thanks for all the advice, like we say in the military standing by for inspection, i was able to change almost everything except a couple and need to run up a gem. but i do appreciate all that time and effort to explain it. i am just better with my barb and the lod necor with simucarm
Basically Everything Alexismad said, especially the 20 discipline from Invigoration. Without it you were missing 40,000 damage. I’ll bet THAT switch was life changing .
Also, if your having trouble surviving, switching to Focus and Restraint and dropping Companion for Fan Of Knives: Bladed Armor (which has no hatred cost) will allow you to really boost your damage enough to cover the loss from Companion. After that it’s just a matter of gearing up, leveling your gems, and adjusting dex/vitality from Paragon.
In looking at your current DH:
You are missing Discipline on the quiver. An ancient without Discipline on it is less useful than a non-ancient with Discipline.
That is up to 20,400% extra damage for one item. (1700% damage per point of Discipline)
You have 3 slots where you can stack up to 12 Discipline each: Both weapon slots and the chest slot. If items in those 3 slots don’t have Discipline rolled on them, they need it. If they are also missing cooldown reduction then junk them. You need as much CDR and Discipline as you can stack on those slots. (weapon slots, chest doesn’t get CDR) So Discipline, Cooldown reduction (especially if running Crimson’s) Area damage, then damage % for weapon, chance on offhand, etc.
Shoulders are important too. Prioritize Cooldown reduction, then Area Damage, then Resistance then Dex.
Boots and helmet need to roll Multi-shot if possible, the helm is difficult due to also needing Hit Chance. Fire damage on the Bracers if possible. Rings and amulets can vary depending on your luck, but crit damage, crit chance, area damage, cooldown reduction, damage roll(ancient or better) etc. Pants and belt you can stack more toughness related rolls.
Demon Hunters meant to be squishier to force you to be on the move. However, they have easy access to Wraps of Clarity which solves most of their issues on toughness. They can always have Elusive Ring or Fortress Ballista freely when needed. They always have easy access to Dawn for an upkeep on one of the game’s best abilities too.
Their gameplay flow are usually about reflexes and reactions while you position. As a theme, Demon Hunters don’t even have a passive ability for cooldown reduction like other classes to hold their ground. They’re meant to re-position whenever odds are about to overwhelm them. This positioning gameplay enforced by short duration but high percentile defensive buffs that showcased on their legendary powers.
If you try to play Demon Hunter like a tank however, they’ll never reach their rightful and true potential to slay demons. Even as a substitute tank, as ZDPS spec, DH is wildly different than melee classes who commit to stand their ground by longer defensive buffs and shorter cooldowns on their utilities via passives.
shadows mantle impale is very tanky. Perhaps not barb tanky, but neverthless, very tanky.
I could never get GOD HA to perform. It just felt super glassy to me and very very underpowered (vs UE MS and s6 impale especially).
I tend to look at the gear, skills, cubed items and passive skills and figure it out from there. It’s rare for me to not be able to complete a CR.
nah, UE just requires luck with the mob groupings. I never realised M6 was so easy a set dungeon.
desirable to have 12 disc, not needs. The build performs well up to GR 100 with little effort.
I wouldn’t bother with CDR and I’m not a fan of AD. I’d just personally go with dex/vit/chc/chd on the gloves. You get close enough to perma vengance with just royal flawless diamond in helm, and max paragon into CDR. 1.5 second downtime perhaps and that’s not really an issue since the build has good ability to move around and dodge mobs.
you can swap out CoE for elusive ring if you’re having issues with toughness. You shouldn’t need to, but…for new players to DH, it’s a possibility to think about.
what GR are you hitting with those builds? Out of curiousity.
Here’s a build guide link (I can’t add URLs to posts):
https://www.icy-veins.com/d3/demon-hunter-unhallowed-essence-multishot-build
re-roll CDR on gloves to CHD. Remove topaz gem from helm and replace with diamond for CDR.
focus/restraint need you to fire a primary skill for the attack bonus. Hit with evasive (once), then you have 5 seconds of bonus dmg with your multishot.
I see a lot of DH newbs jump around a lot with vault. Resist doing this. Move when needed, but don’t overuse vault. If you use all of your discipline from vaulting around too much, your DPS will go down. If you want unlimited movement, then shadows mantle impale is an excellent choice. It is very mobile, and very tanky and does more damage than UE MS that you are playing. It is an elite killer as it has very high 1 shot damage. You jump from elite pack to pack. If you play s6 impale, you want to be in the monsters face for maximum damage (it kinds of guarantees that all daggers hit).
Skills - change vengeance from dark heart to seethe for hatred generation to help with resources.
legendary gems - I much prefer bane of the powerful over stricken. Yes, it offers less potential damage, but it also offers toughness. I would really recommend swapping that out. And for lower GRs, stricken is useless since you are killing mobs in only a few shots and not generating enough stacks for it to be of any use. It’s more helpful when pushing to the maximum GR for the build. You should be able to easily hit GR100 with trapped/zeis/powerful. Especially at near p1000.
cube swap out hunters wrath for visage of gunes (gives you the vengeance dark heart rune). primary skills do no real damage, so hunters wrath isn’t worth it (there’s a few caveats to this such as god hungering arrow build).
your vitality is low. %health is inferior to vitality (shoulders as an example). Your missing vitality on the bracers. vitality is better than armour. Likewise, life per second (LPS) is worthless. It’s a garbage roll to sucker newbies into it.
Poor rolls have made your build squishy. Knowing what to have on your gear is important in D3, for any build.
Maybe you all should read a guide before commenting.
I wonder how does that work for you.
Well, you must be doing something wrong. While UE and Shadow do outperform GoD, it’s not that huge difference. GoD requires a bit understanding of the mechanics to shine.
As for being glassy that’s just rubbish. I typically get above 1 billion toughness easily, allowing to plow GR110+ speeds with ease. GoD has plenty of flexibility so I generally spec slightly more defensively by using Elusive Ring rather than CoE in the cube. Another option is to use Fortress Ballista as a weapon and have the absorb shield all the time up.
Also don’t facetank enemies. GoD is very, VERY mobile build. Use that to your advantage. Dance around them.
Theoden plays console. On PC Hungering Arrow/Gears of Dreadlands is super easy.
I never bothered with area damage playing GoD. Not needed for speed GRs and “semi” speeds where you go some levels higher and spend a few minutes more.
I play the same way as you do. I have been here from day 1. I have played the DH from day 1 too. I’m just like you I have tried all the other characters too. The only other character I will play is the Barb. I’m not into the leader-board or paragon.
The unhallowed build is nice, But you should try the GoD set because it is kinda like the Barb. The one thing with the GoD set. I at first was using a one hand bow. Kept running out of hatred. I would see people using the Yang’s. How does the Yang’s work better than the one hand bow.
Well I said lets try it and see what happens. It didn’t hit me at first that the Yang’s really helps a lot with your resources. Then I went back to the one handed bow. The hatred started dropping like a rock. That is when I thought wait a minute. Went back to the Yang’s and have never look back.
So try the GoD set and see what happens. Look at my DH’s and I have done 125 to 130 solo GR’s and been into group game up to 145. Plus some people might not like my DH’s but I happy with them. Plus I’m just happy I can do those 120 & 125 GR’s solo.
I have help a lot people playing the DH. Just like you they were making a lot mistakes. Yes you can look at all the Guides out there. But there is nothing like having somebody helping you with your build.
Did a GR141 with GoD last season with only one peace that had AD (just looked it up). Was happy with that! 150 maybe the next time the season theme shows up again…
