I am dumb and still have no clue what build is max dos or close to optimal in Grim Dawn or Path of Exile. It is too confusing trying to figure out the damage types and the weapons and the build that works to be in the top tier or close to top tier dps.
I gave up on both those games when I was just treading water and only progressed in welfare parties with locked on higer level players who had good gear and new the builds or talents to progress. I did not and don’t understand even after reading some build guides I have no clue all the jargon they use… on the other hand Diablo 2 had plenty of build guides
So please do not make Diablo 3 harder to understand than the snobbish elite games
When D4 is released you will see build guides all over the place. Many people will use these guides and they will look just like the other players. I hope D4 has a lot more diversity with the builds. Watching everyone doing the same thing gets old really fast. More options will be a good thing.
To be fair, those games have a lot for both the casual and the more dedicated player. There is absolutely no need to get into any of the more complicated mechanics to enjoy either game casually.
I don’t know about that. I haven’t played PoE, so I can’t make any comments. However, I have played Grim Dawn and that game was really fun. If anything it was more of a Titan Quest clone.
Guess what? The same people that did TQ also did GD, so that makes a lot of sense. I remember TQ and TQ2. I played those two games a lot when I took a break from WoW, usually when my friends were not logged on.
I actually prefer GD over D3. I think it’s a better game by far. However, it doesn’t have the Barbarian, my favorite D2 and D3 class.
Grim Dawn is a Titan Quest clone. It was built using that same engine and mechanics. I have played through GD and all of it’s expansions several times and I think it’s great. There is a lot of variety to be had there.
Though I am curious about D4 and will get it when it is live, I am actually eager to see what the makers of TQ and GD make next. They have a winning formula and I hope they don’t change it for any reason. Ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
I enjoyed PoE enough to go no-life mode for a couple of seasons. I still feel like a complete newb, and that is after leveling a necro summoner to 97 in both leagues (the unofficial beginner class for most people). There is something bothersome to me in the clunkiness of the gameplay in PoE, and I’m not talking about performance (I ran 30 fps steadily, doesn’t sound awesome but for PoE it’s good enough).
I am excited about D4 and from what I’m reading, it looks like they’re going to implement some features that other games are doing really well, while also making it a uniquely Diablo-esque experience. One of the things that brings me back to D3 is the smoothness of gameplay, which is in stark contrast to the clunkiness in PoE that I mentioned above. I am really hoping that they take the parts from PoE and other games that we all like while making it smooth the way D3 is. If they pull that off, they will be giving us a pinnacle arpg experience.
I’m in a similar situation. I tried to get into PoE multiple times but its a really difficult game to get to understand as a new player. It got to a point where there was too much information to learn and got confusing so I just gave up. D3 wasnt that easy or difficult to understand, it was somewhere in the middle, just at the right spot and it made it very enjoyable to learn and play.
I’m a little worried that D4 might not be beginner freindly and run into the same issue as i did with PoE.
Watching the streamers play PoE with 12 game info tabs on their web browser is enough to regulate it to “just watching” content for me.
I play(ed) D3 because I could just adapt my runes/skills to match whatever legendary I found, and increase in power. It made 1-60 hella fun, but the grind of MP10 Act3 runs just got old.
Then came Christmas 2.0. And stuff rained from the sky. And almost all of it junk. There were some stupid power lurches every couple of Paragon, but in the end, you just ended up looking exactly like everyone else.
So, now I only play PTR in hopes of redemption. Alas, I’m always surprised how the changes almost always just ruin it further.
2.6.10 continues to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, once again.
This is the most sympathic Thread-Opening ive seen in a while xD
And i can assure you , you are not stupid. Allthough from what i’ve seen i do like the skillsystem of GD, i took a look at the Skillsystem of PoE.
It very much feels like it was made complicated for the pure reasoning of being complicated and seperate itself from the oversimplified System we have in D3.
I have always thought that GD was more in line with what D3 should have been. I like the level of complexity, and GD hasn’t degenerated into an arcade game like D3. There are lots of interesting things to do, builds to create, basically more than just silly leaderboards for the no-lifers.
GD has actually been my game of choice for a few months now. I love it.
Levelling a fresh character with self found gear takes just the right amount of time IMO. Which is to say it takes a bit of effort. But, you can do it without any kind of actual build. Pick your class combos, and actually spend points where you want, and you will generally have a viable first run build.
Then, once you max level, and start to make adjustments, the complexity kicks in. I can see how it might be a little overwhelming with all the damage types, and resist types, but if you just focus on getting your resists up to 80+, the game will open up for you. Resists are king.
As far as guides, yeah many are written for max level, fully geared, experienced players, but, the requinix(dot)com guides are really good at explaining things, and often will have builds you can easily work into.
I agree. I remember a Psionic class in TQ, that was really fun. Too bad it didn’t make an appearance in GD.
Fatboy99
I bought Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods on GoG for dirt cheap. They are full price on Steam, yeah no thanks. What combo class would produce a Barbarian-like class? Warlord? Dervish?
PoE is just overly complicate for no reason. Whenever I play I have wiki pages up on a second screen to help with builds/crafting information.
It’s not a bad game but definitely need to do research to even play. Diablo is just so much more rewarding to be able to play and enjoy the game without needing to do hours of research outside of the game.
