How they gonna deal with 1000s of games being made per min?

Being no realm downs now. And being lot runs take 1 or 3min then people make new game from pindle runs Trist runs ect… I feel like the servers wont be able to handle it on day 1.

Hopefully, they learned their lesson with D3.

Since sales are digital only, Blizzard should know very well how many people are going to login to the game.

There’s a real chance of that, as all big releases get flooded on launch day, but I am strangely optimistic with D2R, I really think we’ll be fine on launch night.,

Let’s have faith. D3 sold 20 million copies and almost all games were made private although there was never a need to remake the game doing rifts and grifts. I think it will be fine.

You want less problems, create less games.

We all know the ways to speed level (mostly)
Which also requires quite a few games to be created at decent speeds…

I’m thinking there is going to be some issues for sure.

Make less games and there will “probably” be less problems.

I think that was the purpose of the betas, to see what strain is put on the infrastructure. Collect results, make changes, and scale up from there for the release. After release, monitor how things are going for a bit, then announce a Ladder date.

Then it’s on like Donkey Kong.

D3 at launch did not have rifts and greater rifts so that is irrelevant. D3 at launch had the infamous “Error 37”.

A couple of differences. D2 is 8 player games, D3 was 4 player. So, if players are utilizing multiplayer instances, the idea is that less instances should need to be made overall. Also, D3 instanced off boss fights, which also causes load to the server. D2 does not. So overall, should be less strain on the servers to keep up.

You all will be at work at 11am on Thursday and I will have the servers to myself… Right?

Especially since every Necro in the world will have 40 summons up. I hope they’ve planned for this, with players world-wide in the same gamespace.

Remember, it takes a single ping 0.2 seconds to circle the globe in a single fiber - and that’s not including switching.

Personally, I’m a bit concerned…

They won’t.
It is going to crash.

I feel like they have had 20 years to figure this out. If the old Bnet servers are still up, hopefully modern ones can handle it. Open Beta was quite stable.

Without Necros…

Well hopefully they figure it out in a week or so, since I have a trip the day of launch

In the beta one game once “crashed” … and the character + shared stashed were “locked / unusable” for multiple hours.

So in worst scenario you can get a “server capacity error” AND “a very long time to recovery”

I am not comfortable with this

Valid point. Hopefully they’re better at estimating system load than the average cable company.

They also know exactly how many of each type of characters/classes they have to manage - the number of minutes each plays, etc. They have lots of clues in an online-only environment they can use to help load balancing.

And for each Necro, they probably need to add as much bandwidth as 10 real characters…

They could encourage players to stay longer in a game and not just rush bosses. For example Suggestion for new game mode

An “Uber Hell” version?

Well, It’s not like everyone and their mother is going to be farming pindle over and over on day one.
