How good is d4?

Im pretty sure these lvl 25 bosses are lesser than the old timey NM100 bosses
we shall see
overall difficulty in the game is not good at the moment. it’s too easy. it’s a shame because I love the overall gameplay/graphics thing. i’m starting to lose that feeling of gratification because everything is too easy to accomplish
right now i’m playing full summon necro with minor in bonespear and thornes barb (my crusader, lol). Both do NM100s with np at all. Curious how far I can take an F tier build into the AoZ.

There are a lot of problems, but I am still enjoying it. Season 2 is significantly better than Season 1. It takes a bit of getting used to seeing more complicated conditional item affixes than on D3. Eg “you take X less damage from vulnerable enemies” or “you do more damage while you have a barrier”.

World Bosses in Tier IV are easy pushovers because players are powerful, but people do them to get materials and it is fun to see other people’s cosmetics. Having a mount is nice the scenery is fantastic and more fitting the Diablo world.
They also have the Butcher show up randomly in a dungeon. Some people love it and others hate it.

The graphics thing is my absolute main reason, I gave up D4 at lvl 7 in the Open Beta. I very much prefer D3 over D1 and D2 (which I played!). Now D4 goes back to D1 & D4. Dark & Greedy and even, what puts me more off: realistic & brutal. I didn’t know what I was thinking forcing myself playing the beta: comparing 1-2 screenshots of D3 and D4 would have been enough to accept, that D4 is nothing for me. Wasted time trying it.

I would give it a try because of this developing, which still didn’t go far enough, still seeing this big paragon board & aspect BS and hundreds of stats on items, it’s still far away from being like D3’s system, that I love. I was in several fun clans in D3: for many people, even the D3 is too complicated.

Will they introduce a build import like WoW has or do you really need to read hundreds of paragon and skill tree items?

D4 has a lot of pretty outdoor areas. Soon, they are putting glaciers over the land to celebrate a Winter event on dec 12th. The ice cave dungeons are very easy on the eyes. They should do more with ice and mist. It runs great on old video cards. My new pc power supply croaked and I had to use the old pc a few days. Graphics on older machine run shockingly well. Less stability issues I think (lol). But using a new card with the almsot latest version of DLSS (it’s gettin there) everything looks smooth and shiny and lovely.

The character creation is def. more D2 inspired than D3. The good news is that you can sandbox pretty much anything you like to play and it will do pretty well if you have decent Diablo skills. No armoury system yet. It’s easier to make another character than to switch builds around. I got three barbs and 2 necros. Vault space is a premium or I would have more than 2 classes. It’s easier to space things when everyone uses something. My necro would be considered “F” tier because it’s full summoner, but I can still do the highest content with it. I like the game. It just needs greater rifts and like 20 other things from Diablo 3.

I would def. pick it up while its on sale. You might not catch Diablo 4 fever now, but a few seasons, never know. These games tend to grow on you. Took me a while to like D3.

literally the biggest flop sequel of all games. worse than the new star wars.

That is how good it is.

I think there are still some big milestones that need reached before it’s in a proper state. I’ve used the Cyberpunk example before. It was released in bad state. Patch 1.5 turned it into a good state and 2.0 turned it into what people were expecting it to be from the start. I’m hoping that this will go the same route.

Oooo, you’re back. Where is Paul Blart, the forum cop, your most obsessed fan to comment at you?

The Abattoir of Zir is a good time. Started really bad. I had made a character for it whose glyphs were all level 15 (that’s the point where they have bigger area effects). Plan was to use the massive xp boost to just take them to 21 in a run or two. This is the thorns guy. Get in, taking a little damage, not really showing anything when I get hit, etc. Fail the level 1 at the end timeout vs vamps. Wondering what’s up and maybe if I can tweak my paragon, lo and behold all the glpths are 14, which means my fancy paragon board was broken in six places (everywhere lol). I knew they would hot fix this, so I just switched characters around. They eventually did.
Meanwhile, monsters ground effects, damage over time, death effects, are realllllly cranked up. I wished I had kept some of those tasset pants with the 10 resist overcap. They would be great for this. Changing up potions to the greater fire one with the overcap helps a lot. Those pants would do that for every element. The actual damage the monsters do hitting you is spot on though. Great push back and forth. Feels like a real fight.

I had heard the Tears of Blood would be shared account wide? But isn’t? I thought all I had to do was to run AoZ on an alt and it would become an account-wide effect but NOP. This is a big mistake in my opinion. The worst builds are only going to become playable. Fun for everyone. Better testing. Can see how stuff like thorns, pets, traps, whatever does with pure raw x damage slapped on top of it.
I like it though. The one death only kinda sucks. I’m used to playing for speed. Here I am running a 5 like like a GR90 and I take my eye off the screen a sec and DEAD. Restart. Wasted dust. D4 uses Nightmare dungeons. They should have NM dungeon death rules.

Loot inside is good. I get lots of nice 925s. Haven’t seen any ubers. Hope they are in the RNG. Mats would be awesome loot too. That’s another place of improvement.

The D4 forum is on fire over the Abattoir of Zir with both positive and negative comments. They said they would use it as a test for other endgame features. Part of the player base is acting like this:

Players: “Blizzard we want some difficult endgame content.”
Blizzard: “We just added this new feature try it out.”
Players: “Blizzard the new feature is too difficult.”
Blizzard: “But you said you wanted something difficult.”
Players: “Not really can you make it easier.”
Blizzard: “Don’t call us we will call you.”

I think the D3 players are just built differently. It’s like we grew up on a world with 50% more gravity then moved someplace where we are suddenly giga-strong freaks. They don’t have any of the basic grift skills we’ve learned, then introducing them to this style of play is scaring them off. No deaths, uber hard content, not good way to introduce your playerbase to endgame experience.

The same happens across all types of Diablo players. When a new game comes out, there are always the ones who, when you ask them to list out what they want, make it sound like they’re just looking for a glorified expansion versus a new game.

I’m really enjoying this. Sure, I’d love to remove the hardcore thing (lol), but I enjoy problem solving the defense. This is my HOTA barb. His chest is crazy. +4x3 skills, armor. One super big change I’m doing is put purple gems in some of my armor to reduce damage-over-time effects. Shako, grandfather, starless skies, flickerstep, banished lord talisman, butcher cleaver (goes with the vampire power).

It’s funny that I feel the complete other way around haha. Taste is taste. I grew up playing aoe2 and always felt it was a lot more polished than starcraft and I also prefer the slower paced gameplay, randomly generated maps and more complex economy.

It’s good, but I’ve stepped away for a while. Campaign was fun. But after that, I found the grind to be just so much. The game is immensely larger than D3. There is so much to it in terms of complication. I’ll come back to it in the future. But personally though, I find D3 to be just more fun.

In before Paul Blart, the forum cop and his cohorts and something about “necro”.

It’s had some improvements through various patches but they’re just not enough. The gameplay itself needs improvement. It’d be like me giving you a jack-in-the-box for something fun to do. And my idea of improving it is to install a more comfortable handle on the crank.

Season 3 can be summed up as
PRO: Barbarians
CON: Traps
TBD: Leaderboards

I’d be much more lenient of D4’s shortcomings if the prior 3 D’s hadn’t already existed for a minimum of 10 years or longer.

As-is, I simply do not have the patience to wait however long it takes for D4 to fully cook into a proper, good-all-around game. There’s a reason I’m back at D3.

I don’t think D4 is a bad game. I just think the game is not Ready for prime time quite yet. Let the streamers and Beta testers spend time perfecting this game. While in the meantime I can enjoy more polished products from other companies. Its not a race.

Agreed with your post except for that line. If a game is marketed as full-release it should BE full-release. If the game is EA, it should be marketed as EA. Philosophically speaking I cannot get behind the “AAA priced paid beta test” game model.

I 100% agree with you. However, this won’t change unless we the customers unite and stop giving our money away for unfinished products. These businesses understand this, so we can’t really blame them for doing it. Diablo immortal micro transactions, Diablo 4 early access. I shake my head but if someone wants to buy it, so be it. It’s really up to us.
