It’s worse than the other strong seasons (cube, ethereals, shards, etc.). Back then it was the strongest by far but the other impactfull seasons up to that point were just free RoRG and LoD.
There is some depth and skill involved obviously, and you can manipulate kill streaks to your advantage. Some kill streaks that occur are indeed strong. For example the angels can kill a rift guardian in GR150 in just a couple of seconds but it requires great gameplay and skill to calculate to have them exactly when the boss spawns. You could search Raxxanterax that did a GR150 back in S19 with WW barb to see how difficult it is.
I think in the rotation era of D3 (after S30) it’s the worse theme so far. It’s gimmicky and weird compared to straightforward buffs and special items like sanctified and shards. My personal view is that it is underwhelming at this point by it’s own. They could combine it with another season to be more fun, even free rorg and lod, or combine it with pre-nurfed Altar. It’s also possible that S21 of visual vomit is going to return once again, cause it is similar in a sense.
As for the loot hunt, nothing new. You just have to hunt for the Altar and loot just like every other season.
He has a solo clear as well, but it is way out of any normal player’s reach. If all stars aligned, then yeah, the potential is very high. Not as high as the other recent seasons though. Overall, yeah it is comperatively lame, but that can also be a blizz decision to get even more players away from D3.
Edit: just watched his solo clear, and yeah, f that. That doesn’t look like a fun season at all to me. Way too much thinking and planning involved and he had over 4000 paragon as well. Granted we have the altar now but to me at least, that season theme does not look like much fun at all.
The themes are sort of fun to play around when doing higher stuff, I see plenty of complaints but I dont mind it.
Most of the kill streak effects delete the screen.
The season of eternal conflict gave a buff to movement speed up to 50% and damage up to 100%, and various effects when you reached a certain number of kills.
It should be a tad more interesting this time around with the altar’s kill streak bonus.
Scratch that. The season kill streak and usual massacre bonus are two different things. The altar for sure affects the massacre bonus, will it affect the kill streak? I’m thinking no.
How long did you have in S19 from when you stopped attacking to when you lost your bonus? Was it the same length of time as a normal XP monster kill lasts for?
Season 30-34 had the altar and stronger sets, season 19 didn’t.the season of eternal conflict with the altar and stronger sets will be a stronger theme than it was in season 19.
I believe it’s the same as any Streak. For example: The Gold Streak for the Avarice/Avaritia Conquests. Or the streak for Breakable Objects to get +%Movement Speed.
The Altar’s Gateway Seal:
Doubles the duration of the streak. (Time between last kill and next kill before expiring).
Doubles the reward of the streak. (After one streak expires and the next one begins).
Technically, it would be the strongest of all themes as it allowed zdps to solo GR150. As far as consistent power, it is probably one of the weakest themes.
Yup. Nothing special except stacking massacre bonus.
For most people, ya, pretty uninteresting. For fun, though, if you get a massacre bonus over 1000, a super strong Uber Diablo will appear and try to wreck your day. He is significantly stronger than T16 Diablo or T16 Uber portal Diablo.
I remember back then blizzard initially called it an exploit and warned that bans might occur. This was done in groups even if the clear was solo. The other players would reject the GR and move around adventure and only one entered. Or was it something to do with teleporting in and out of the map? Anyway, seems like for ssf mode it is impossible to use this method.
I remember summoning the ubre Diablo in the Challenge Rift testing area on the side where the reapers spawn. He had no power there. Didn’t drop anything either but it was the only way I could get him to spawn. Getting a 1000 kill streak was out of league back then. I’ve obviously improved as a player since then.
I mean, I only started playing in Seasons in like Season 16 or 17 and was still somewhat learning the game. I was extremely casual for the first couple of years of playing the game. Back then, I even had to get help from clan mates to get the Conquest that asks you to complete a Rift in Under 2 Minutes.
