[Guide] Zodiac Rend (Season 20)

Yeah 6k paragon isn’t happening in my lifetime… didn’t know the threshold for Crimson to make sense was so high.

I found it amusing that my 1500 paragon (from 5 years ago) somehow only converted to barely just over 100 additional paragon levels on top of my season paragon of 2000. Talk about a horrible conversion rate :joy:

It’s crazy the way that XP scaling works at higher paragons.

To get to 6000 paragon, you’d have to get to 2000 paragon 29 times over.

It’s also crazy how power creep has changed how fast you earn paragon. Playing a ton in earlier seasons does not translate to much non-season paragon now. If you played a lot early on, then took a break from D3 for a while, you’re way behind people who have played continuously. Or people who started playing D3 more recently. I played a ton in seasons 1-8, then didn’t play much again until season 17 or so (seasons 9-16 I mostly just played at the start of the season for 100% achievements then done). My non-season paragon is a fair bit behind most other people with my hours who played continuously through. My hours spent in seasons 1-8 contribute very little to my total paragon, it’s virtually all from what I’ve put in the past few seasons. 100 hours in season 20 is worth the same as 1000+ hours from seasons 1-4.

This is covered in the OP. Generally, going the Crimson’s route is not worth it unless you’re over 5k Paragon, and even then, the difference between the two builds isn’t substantial until you have even more Paragon.

The vast majority of players, Season and non-Season, are better off sticking with the Core build.

Yeah that’s consistent with what happened on my paragon conversion. I invested over a thousand hours between Eras 1-3 and they literally amount to nothing compared to the 200 or so hours I put in this season.

I would have assumed the value of paragon to remain constant over time (ie: 1000 paragon in season 1 is worth 1000 paragon in season 20), but that’s clearly not the case at all.

It’s not the paragon but the xp. Your total xp is added up at season end to your total xp in NS, and that gives you whatever paragon level you would get with the combined total xp. Since each paragon level takes more and more xp than the last, that’s why it doesn’t directly add up if you look at paragon levels.

Exactly. If paragon directly transferred over everyone would play season because lower paragon levels are easier to stack up. People get to 2k in a week or faster and 4k is very common. Imagine what the top paragon would be in the world if this was the case. Probably like 50k or more. There would be no point. 150s would be speed runs at that point.

Good that they’re taking some initiative on NS as well. I got back on Top 200 but I’m going to keep pushing for at least 137.

I was searching google for some map layouts and found this link on imgur of festering woods. Hope this helps everyone that’s trying to make that final push for era end.

Just saw the banwave across EU and NA, looks like you both are gonna make the Top 200 nice

How is it that China remains untouched with the ban waves?

They can’t touch players in china. Its basically a free for all. A third party runs there game for them in China.

There are almost no 11k+ players anymore on NA or EU. My clan has had confirmation from multiple players of getting bans form the players themselves or from other clans. They cut all the fat at the top including a lot in the range of 6-8k if they were big offenders. I know of three more that have not been removed from NA barb leaderboards yet.

Been busy making moves and just finished GR 138, this will be my last push for Era 13. This has been an epic Era for me pushing new records. But I have to say I’m definitely burned out, 138 took 900 keys.

Too bad I did not get credit for the leader boards, seems it’s bugged right now and is hit or miss.

I had a great first map, Festering + Phasebeasts which catapulted my progression. Second map was Desert + Zealots which I closed out. Towards the end, I got a little greedy hunting for a Power Pylon which cost some time but I was hoping the gamble would pay out.

Happy farming and spin to win y’all.

Well then. So almost perfect fester followed by a great sands and then our #1 rift guardian. That is how you get lowest paragon 138+ in the world. Only way it would have been better is for a power to spawn for the rift guardian and maybe some swarms somewhere in there to help keep you rampage stacks up longer. Next era will be great for our clan. Grats bud!!! Hope blizzard fixes the bug so you have the clear on the boards.

What a run!!! You played that condi to perfection!

You’ve gotta be one of the top pound-for-pound GR/paragon barbs in the world. Been fun watching your meteoric rise these last few months. It’s truly unreal what you’ve been able to achieve at just 4000 paragon. Perseverance pays off.

Official Ranking or not - we all know where you stand among the elite barbs in the world. Congrats my friend!

Thanks bro’s! This run just felt amazing overall. Once I walked through the rift and saw some zombies I was like oh not bad, then came the Hulking Phasebeasts and my mindless opening/closing rifts switch flipped.

I made a beeline to top, aggroing mobs and to burn Pylon spawns. Pulled them back to the T crossing and widdled away at them for a bit of progression. Next process was to pull them to the bottom of the half.

There is usually a Pylon spawn there, but I knew I didn’t have enough progression so it was another burn location. I spend a bit of time here wearing down mobs trying to target 20~25% progression to spawn a Pylon at the top. Lucky for me, I get it and it’s a Conduit! At this point it’s easy, traverse the entire map and pull back as many elites/mobs as possible to the Condi. Phasebeasts provide amazing progression and I knew this would put me at 75~80 % with the elites in there. I saved a bit of Condi to kill the stragglers as I knew there was a few Phasebeasts by the exit, which worked out well.

Next map was the Desert Sands with squishy mobs. At this point, I knew I had it in the bag. Just needed to spear and drag them along until I spawned the RG. Like I mentioned in my previous post, I was looking for a Power at the end. But that was the wrong play. Looking back at it now, the chances for a 3rd Pylon was super slim as I spawned the Cooldown Pylon at 80%. My past experiences are that Pylons are more commonly spawned around 25~30% and very rarely between 10~20%.

RG time was the best possible outcome, Hamelin! This guy is our best RG as he’s chunky, mostly stationary and spawns a boat of of Adds! Spin and blast rend for additional AD and DPS him down.

Easy victory y’all. That’s my take on this GR 138.

Free, i’ve been a fan of your writing for years now. I don’t post much, so i’m not really known around here, but I’ve been reading your guides and posts for as long as i’ve been on the D3 forums. I’ve been with you, and all the Barbs, fighting to get the needed buffs every season, without fail. Imagine my shock and hurt when you betrayed me this season. I decided this season i’m going to try hard, grind for the best rolls, grind paragon, try to see how high i can go, so i fire up your guide and read it again, making sure i’ve got it all down with the most up to date data. I rolled a lady barb, for the first time ever, because you sad it’s better than dude barb. Lady barb is horrible. I can’t believe i trusted you.

Congrats on the clear! Nice work!

Lady Barb FTW. Dude Barb is pure Chad material, ya dig?

Thank you for the kind words, Rizamp. Hope your S21 goes smoothly!

I did consider making Meteorblade a girlfriend called Meteorbabe.

I have a question about Stone Gauntlets.
Is it worth to change Mantle of Channeling for Stone Gauntlets in higher rifts 110+?
You lose 25% damage, but gain much more armor.
Ty for you answer

No. Defense is not an issue in this build. Killing things fast enough is.

Stone Gauntlets are really only worthwhile when you have very low Paragon and are struggling to survive in Greater Rifts. But as you gain more Para or progress into higher GR tiers, the Core build should give you more than enough toughness to survive–provided you play it correctly. So, nah, I wouldn’t bother with SG outside early-Season pushes.
