[Guide] Zodiac Rend (Season 20)

In other news:

This is an excellent, if seldom discussed point. Considering the recent banwave, it’s worth digging into.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to do what I do best:

How’s that going for you?

For me? Great.

For Hell’s legions? Not so hot.

Joking aside, DE is hands-down one of the best games I’ve ever played. It’s going to be a while before other FPS games come to grips with what this game has done to the genre, and I’m only talking about the game on a mechanical level. There’s also a certain quality this game has, an addictive elements that compels me to replay it again and again and again. It’s not flawless, but its positive qualities so completely outweigh its flaws as to render them meaningless.

That’s awesome!

I had been looking for something different to break up my gaming time, but then I’ve not had much time to play anything lately

Have you played Doom (2016)? If yes, you might blast through it again just to re-familiarize yourself with the basic gameplay (which is greatly expanded and complicated in DE).

If not, you would be best served playing it before trying DE; the latter significantly ramps up the challenge, in part due to additional complexity in movement and combat options.

Both Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal are stellar games–easily the best games I’ve played for 4 years now.

I have not

I recently re-installed Guild Wars 2. It was like learning how to walk again lol

Good friend, prithee rectify what gross oversight thou hath committed.

I must do better

Era ends usually just before new season starts. Still have a week to go before it closes out.

Had an excellent first map, festering + fatties.

Power Pylon spawn was meh and I took a gamble to save it. My thought was that there was plenty of leeway to spawn another pylon, hoping for a conduit. Things didn’t go as planned and next floor was a rip.

Still nice to see the progression you can get from god tier mobs.

RIP…Dude I have not seen one fester or battlefields with fatty/zombie. You have seen multiples. I can even go as far as not seeing fatty/zombie on a sands or big spire as well. Kinda why I gave up. Next era it is for me.

It’s kind of weird they don’t end the Era when the next season’s patch drops, kind of screws up the era when people have access to next era’s buffs and new sets. It didn’t effect the Barb leaderboards this time around, but it will most certainly effect DH and Necro leaderboards.

It’s such a love/hate relationship. I was super excited when I saw those fatties I died within 5 seconds lol. On one hand I know I can clear 138, on the other RNGesus keeps teasing me with these first maps. This is the second time I gambled an early/mid spawn Power pylon and got burned. I’m going to take them as they come, hopefully to alter the Pylon spawn algorithm.

On another note, @Rage, with my current Core Zodiac build I’m at 31,600 Str. Lets say if I switch to Cap Crims at the same Str level, does the Cooldown pylon become the equivalent to a second Power? Or do I need to factor in str, augs and total cdr while in wrath to calculate?

No.

Captain Crimson’s gives a maximum of 100% damage increase (you can’t have more than 100% CDR).

Channeling pylon gives 75% CDR. If you started with 0 CDR and had Crimson’s (you can’t, you automatically have 20% CDR from Crimson’s, but let’s ignore that for now), it would be a 75% relative damage increase. But since you already have some cooldown, in practice it’s actually a far smaller increase than that. E.g. if you’re running 50% CDR including Crimson’s, Channeling pylon boosts you from 50% CDR to 87.5% CDR. That means with the Crimson’s bonus it’s giving you a 25% relative DPS boost. Nowhere near what a Power Pylon gives you.

With CC and a cooldown pylon it bump my cdr from 60ish to 90ish so it is ruffly a 50% sheet damage boost. Def not anywhere near a power pylon but it can eliminate some of the rng know you can get a 3 pylons that help your damage.

So is Season 21 Barb identically geared to Non-season barb?

If so I may try Crimson WW next season to shake things up - core is basically the same as the S20 build but with even less involvement since FnR is dropped.

Yes but the problem with crimson is the lack of defense with only slightly more offense. The biggest benefit of crimson is the fact that cooldown pylons help your damage. The core build places zodiac ring in the cube and slots both BOM and COE so you get two extra offensive stats which eats up some of the benefit of going with crimson. Your better off sticking with core with anything below 6k paragon. Even Seras with tell you how much easier core was to push when he switched. You can really focus on your pulls rather then always being on the verge of one shot. Then half the Rift guardians you can’t even dps since its a guaranteed one shot if they look at you wrong.

100% agree, I ran crimson for the longest time and was stuck in the 120’s due to low paragon (3.3K). Made the switch back to Core Zodiac and cleared 136. WW Rend is a slow grind once you have optimal gear, you really need paragon and 1% tier items to make it far.

Top 200 world is now 136+ and I’m bumped out. I still have a few days to try for 138, if not, I will attempt 137.

Looks like some non season bans went out. We both moved back up a few spots. There is still hope top 200.
