Guaranteed Primal Ancient

i am a Demon Hunter this season, and i just did my first level 70 Greater Rift for the season. The Primal Ancient(PA) i got was a Wiz Source. This has happened a few seasons for me, where i cant even use the guaranteed PA. why is this a thing? I’m not asking for a Best in Slot item, just something that doesnt have an X on it for my class. i’d be content with getting a general Shield than a Source.

All primals, including the guaranteed drop from the first solo GR70+, follow the Smart Loot rules. That means 85% chance to get an item for your class, 15% any other class.

Sure, getting an item for “wrong class” is annoying but there’s nothing broken. The system works exactly as intended.

Thank you, i did not know the numbers. seems opposite for me though; 15% my class and 85% other class when it comes to primals :stuck_out_tongue:

and I don’t even know what’s dropped. because I sold it right away … :man_facepalming:
I don’t know anyone with something sensible that has been dropped … :poop:

Not all, only the guaranteed primal follows Smart Loot rule. Normal primal drops are 100% for your class.

@OP, my DH got a primal Firebird chest armor. You are not alone.

Game on.

Well… eventually I got a nice primal DH Hunter’s Wrath Belt!

However, what I need now, is more Ramaladni’s Gifts… :frowning:

playing DH and I received an enchantress token as my primal, wish I received anything useful for any char (barb, WD etc.) so that I could at least create that char and move on…

What’s it matter if it’s an item for a different class if you’re just going to salvage it anyway?

Only a small number of people will get a primal that’s worth keeping.

Sorry, that is not correct.
I’ve definitely had primals for other classes as mob drops.

i got more than 2+ primals for other classes in s20. doesn’t seem to work.

Fraid not. I’ve gotten a primal mojo (Ukaphian Serpent) on my DH from the normal primal drops. That means all primals, even the guaranteed first primal during a season follow the Smart Loot rules.

See and read what other got:

Not everyone gets something useful for the first one.

The real bone players have to pick with the devs on this particular mechanic is that in most cases the item is completely useless to the player. But the biggest problem by far is you can get something for a class other than the one you’re playing for the guaranteed primal. Fix that and there’s nothing more to argue about since it will at least potentially have some use to the player right away.

Sure, they’ll more often than not get a suboptimal item or something that isn’t for the build they intend to play, but it will at least be usable by the currently played character, even if it isn’t practical in the end.

In patch note 2.5.0, it said primal’s stats are tailored to the class. Or, did I misinterprete this statement? Or, the primal drop has a bug now?

Also, why they added the statement that guaranteed primal has a chance of class item? That doesn’t make any sense if guaranteed primal and normal primals are same as other legendary items.

Well, I’d read that statement to suggest that non class restricted items will roll with the main stat of the hero that they drop for.

For example, I just dropped a primal In-Geom a few minutes ago on my non-seasonal Barb. It had STR on it, but a one-handed sword could be equipped by any of the classes. If it had dropped for a Monk / DH it would have had DEX on it. If it had dropped for a Wiz/WD/Necro it would have had INT on it.

Class restricted items always roll with the correct main stat, i.e. you won’t find a DH cloak with STR or INT on.

Again, I have absolutely had class specific primals for classes other than the one they dropped for.

Well, I didn’t recall I haven’t other-class-specific items, except the guaranteed ones. May be I just didn’t pay attention.

99.9% of primals are useless anyways… 1st you need to find one that is for your class, 2nd you need to find one for your build, 3rd you need to find one with (at least) 3 of 4 primary affix rolls correct (you can reroll the 4th one) and that is on top of the already insanely low drop rate. I have not found a single primal with 4/4 primary affix rolls that I want, which means that the ancient version that I have that has 4/4 is better and the primal gets melted. I found 300+ primals last season and only 2 of them were for my build and had 3/4 primary affixes (after rerolling 1) and I wanted to use them, because they were red, but the ancients that I had with 4/4 stats were simply better… primals are a huge disappointment.

Primals shouldn’t even exist. It’s an utterly pointless and unnecessary layer of RNG that this game didn’t need.

All primals did succeed in doing is make people obsessed about them and making foolish suggestions of how to change them to make them more meaningful and all those suggestions would only result in more power creep, greatly reduced build diversity or usually both.

That is truly a slap in the face OP. At least I got a bow for mine (albeit a Raven) but still it was serviceable for my GoD build since I don’t really have a build specific bow.

An easy fix is primals without legendary affixes don’t drop. That way, a primal does SOMETHING.
