I have no idea what you just said…
I mean, and I don’t know about anyone else, that the only thing this Season offers that is of any interest whatsoever is the mummy pet; even that is rather low given no character has such a cultural reference (I had hoped to use with Necro but they’re not Egyptian in the slightest – had the mummy just been a mummy, and not clothed like a real world sample, then maybe another story.)
The theme is rather boring to me (mostly because it is not immediately in force, like every other season theme) and I don’t care for the transmog award. D2 holds no special place to me and a revisit is just that - a glimpse back. I don’t need nostalgia. I want new.
The Journey, at least, has completion tasks. Endless grinding quickly becomes boring. Making it faster actually hurts it – great, I get to do this again in 3 minutes!
And, overall, the leaderboard race is a waste of my time. I don’t care.
[Edit]
It is possible I find an Ethereal that is fun thereby changing my experience. I don’t expect it with the drop rates as they are and my inability to want to find one.
Well… Rhykker explains it better than me:
5:24 mark, but be wary that he says “level eleven” five times in under 3 seconds all along the video. Appears I made up some points about the 4 level gap thing.
I would imagine that’s because level 11 is the minimum level at which ethereals can drop for the hero. The reason you don’t want to level up much further than that is because of the widening of the loot pool (i.e. more legendaries) at higher levels.
They dropped the most from rift guardians, so not much strategy involved.
Khalim’s Will is probably my favorite Diablo item ever. I’ll be doing this garbage just for that mog alone.
Also, my strat is going to be get to 70 ASAP (crudest boots monk), and grind a high level Gem of Ease and LOD gem and just pass them around to other classes, and delete the class when I have their eths.
It has existed in D3 since patch 2.4.1

the Ethereal version is a copy/paste.
Yeah not happening, it was bad enough we had him plastered all over the Bnet launcher for months…
I’ve gleamed this from the one above you:
- gear a speedfarming toon
- make 2nd toon and level to 12 on T6. invite a lvl70 toon, then your lvl12 toon leaves the game.
- log back in with speedfarming toon, and everything will be magically frozen to lvl12 (?), as in monsters will be stuck at lvl12 and you’ll gain no XP.
- rinse & repeat with various classes until you get all 21.
Yes?
Then you get back with lvl70 toon here by hero switching while your lvl70 friend still in the lvl11-12 game. If it doesn’t work try leaving the game and join your friend by an invite. You both open a nephalem rift in T6 difficulty and scour it. Rinse and repeat.
Yes.
Whoa whoa whoa hold it hold it…I have to gear a speedfarming toon for EACH class??..because farming with lvl12 toon would be too slow…
You need one lvl11 toon and a level 70 of sorts toon. I call it speedfarmer but you don’t exactly need the level 70 character to be at top shape as it will be killing lvl11 monsters locked in level scale. Start a Torment 6 game as a level 11, invite level 70 friend then leave and join up with your level 70. Once level scale of monsters are locked in, you’ll open a Nephalem Rift at that difficulty and keep it going 'till the end.
To add, Ethereals can drop for off-class even rarely, they do. But it’s best for you to repeat the process by keeping your only lvl11 toon intact to not level up any more and create new ones for each class.
You will have to rinse and repeat T6 nephalem rifts, when you collected all three ethereals for the class then you delete your level 70 and start a new one. When you’re bored there’s always the option of going that extra mile to make them a real speedfarmer to hit up GR90 clears solo but it’s best if you can work it in groups as it will be faster.
Ok to recap
- the only reason we need a lvl12 toon is for creating a lvl12 game and then invite lvl70 ones in to keep lvl12 session alive while we switch to another toon.
- we’ll need a relatively fast-farmer toon for each class (but doesn’t have to be lvl70) to hop in and out - rinse & repeat until all 21 have dropped
It’s gonna be T6 but with lvl12 monsters, so the speedfarmers won’t have to be fully geared. just fast-clearing enough. which can be sorted out with a few skill-boosting legs for support or even a LoD for global damage boost.
ok i don’t feel so bad about it anymore. and there’s plenty of time anyway. I usually finish the seasonal journey within 1.5/2 weeks and then I either go back to NS or stop playing D3 completely.
Yeah. As long as party leader, the game starter, which is you started the game with a lvl11-12 character and have someone waiting in the game, the progress scale will be locked. That’s what the video says.
- Get one character to lvl70 first.
- Start a new character and level it up to 11 or 12, 15 which also can be acceptable.
- Switch it up to Torment 6 difficulty and start a new game with level 11-12 character.
- Invite someone who are lvl50-70 or above and have them stay when you switch heroes.
- Join back to the game with your first lvl70 (without leaving the lobby? that’s the part I didn’t get forgive me here.)
- Now game will be locked into level 11.
- Open a Nephalem Rift to rinse and repeat.
This must be it. It’d be much easier if you were to watch instead of taking bad directives from me but I get you.
Just got my 1st ethereal on level 7 Monk in Neph rift on Asia server. Just wanted to point out that level 11 is not a set floor for starting to get them. Note this was solo and the item says required level = 6.
Nah, dot points are better. I can’t stand to hear him, let alone look at him.
All these strategies and when it comes down to it, they drop like flies. Started on Europe, 2 while leveling, 1 on my first t1 (70) run and one on my 2nd t4 (70). Powerleveled two people and they both got one. They were even dropping at lvl8. Most of the Leaderboard has them. Going to be easy to snag all 21.
OK that makes a lot of sense. I understand why you would do it like that then. I think I would have done the same for this season if I wasn’t in the mood to play just for that pet cause damn it looks cool.
I am not one for cutesy pets so it is exactly the kind I want.
My strategy this season - just play like always. Since ethereals don’t carry over to non-season and I don’t care too much about the transmogs (I have more than enough that I don’t use as it is), not going to fret about them all that much. Get the mummy on US and EU servers and then go back to non-season. Might work on my Asia account…
I saw one youtube video saying puzzle rings are what you want to farm ethereals with.
get a level 70 weapon
get to level 14
put on T6 and run the vault.
rinse and repeat until you have your ethereals.
good luck getting all the puzzle rings that it will take!
I’m para 600+ now and only have 3 puzzle rings!
true. but you have multiple goblins in the vault that can drop them at a higher rate than normal mobs.
Here is the video to give credit to the streamer as well as his indepth explanation
