Diablo IV - Bring back the Tetris Inventory

This.

/thread

Here are some more characters.

Ikr, i also loved beast summon necromancer for skelletons and summons to profit from fanactism aura + act 2 merc might aura. Ah them fun builds in D2

Agreed.
But items could have on-use abilities that were not other class skills. I’d be fine with that.

Yeah, Grim Dawn does it well (and it does itemization really well overall).

What are you talking about? I have one account, just stop with this allegations that I Would create more accounts to support my own thread. Someone that thinks like that has done it himself. So just stop…

Every racer would tell you that inventory tetris is one of the factors of time management and therefore - thing to master to beat everyone else. Having that in mind, I agree it should be a thing.

I think the word you are looking for is ā€œallegationsā€.

yes that is the one. Thanks

I guess my biggest issue with the current work-in-progress D4 inventory is that it allows players to pick up and carry way too many items. That rewards picking up everything and then recycling all the stuff at the town. Which is not great for gameplay.

I just started playing D2 again, and I quite like the fact that I do need to be more selective with what items I choose to pick up and keep. I think it makes the gameplay more interesting, as the player needs to keep making those decisions.

Hard pass. Let’s not move backwards please. Always forwards. Inventory management is annoying. I’d rather just play the game than constantly worry about space. Stopping to go to town breaks my immersion.

As if players weren’t doing this already with the old games. Pop a TP, sell, go back pock up, pop a portal and sell some more. I did, others have stated they did, I have a hard time believing only a few players did this.

whats ā€œthe gameā€? killing demons?

Literally? Yes. The original creators made Diablo because they wanted to kill skeletons, and figured other people would wanna do that too. They had plenty of interviews about it.

It’s not inventory-craft. It’s a game about slaying enemies.

Of course players did that, but being able to pick up 36 items at one go removes any need for thinking when deciding to what to pick up. The decisions like that make games more interesting.

I do not think that the inventory should be designed around players who constantly use town portal to sell stuff. If they want to do that 15 times in 20 minutes, that should be allowed. It is their decision how they want to spent their time in the game. But it is not a good starting point for inventory design.

I really think you types are insisting your playstyle onto others when most other never gave any thought ot her than maybe picking up scrolls, potions and yellows and better first, then getting the rest. I never gave one thought to it just looted until full, portable back sold and repeated.

I know some gave it thought, but it was never a factor for me and I would guess many others.

that always counts for both sides

Two groups of players doing the same thing.

I think forcing players to make decisions tends to make games more interesting as opposed to gameplay mechanics which do not require any thinking, such as hoovering up 36 items at one go.

and salvaging 99% because you are only looking for green and orange
i have already read things like ā€œi dont want to look at every single item on the groundā€
and thats the mentality

You know they can always increase the backpack space, right?

Exactly why POE bothers me with that D2 inventory

Since loot is pure luck, having a tetris inventory is useless

Asking for people to make choice can be good only if loot rules change, if not, you will only add time to go back and forth at the end of GR

What is the point of that in Diablo today when there are plenty of games where you could use your so hardcore brain if you need to (factorio like, opus magnum like, and even… wait… Tetris itself ! ^^)

But perhaps you should consider the size of the two groups, if 50/50 your point make sense.

That’s where poll can give an idea at the beginning of a thread, when the louder are sometimes not the most representative of the player community
