You might be correct - I don’t mind waiting a bit to let the crowd get ahead of me in the shared open world and watch some video’s and read some reviews.
After all does anybody remember the D3 launch?
Good you announce it at last!
Anyway…still me and many people are sceptical. Once you lose people trust it will be hard to recover it.
My opinion:
- good it’s dark, bloody and gothic
- good there will be skill tree again
- good there will be world bosses
- good there will be open world
I`m scared about:
- itemization - if you going to make it like it is in Diablo 3. I`m not interested in game how good it would look. I prefer to grind for hours to achieve some items then get them too easy in few hours.
- economy - if there wont be trading. I`m not interested in game doesn’t metter how good it would be. Trading is best socialising thing and also it give sense of hunting monsters.
- difficulty - don’t screw it up…make normal as lowest level, nightmare as 2nd difficulty level - very hard, hell as 3rd - extremaly hard and last almost impossible difficulty level. That was the point of oldschool gaming
I hope game will be easy to play and hard to master. I believe you will not listen casuals again. They destroyed Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft. They want everything fast and easy and after they get it they are leaving game anyway.
Just my opinion. Sorry for my english.
What is this bulls**t with bosses that i cant kill alone? I really hope that you don’t think to implement this in campaign mode.
If I wanted to play mmo i would play WoW. There is a reason i dont play it, i hate that kind of gameplay. I don’t want to play with other people, even PoE allow us to play solo.
Why do you think you need to bring mmo in to the Diablo? If you want to make money then bring back RMAH like you have in D3. People that are playing diablo don’t want to be forced to team up with others to kill something. Im not a social person and i don’t want to have friends in game, so i don’t want to play with others
Other then that i love everything else in the game. I really hope you change your mind about bosses that cant be killed without a group of people. But, in the end, it is your game, you can do what ever you want with it.
Let me just start off here by begging and pleading with blizzard to please read this post and really take this to heart while making diablo 4. If there is one time you guys actually listen to me, make this it.
- “if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything” when you guys decide to make a decision for this game, stand up for it. don’t let community pressures or people who aren’t allowed to have the same level of access as you determine how it turns out. you guys are hands on with this as your job every day, there is nobody in a better spot to make a decision on how something should go then you, asking the community for input is all well and good, some people have great ideas, but not all ideas work well in a game.
A great example here is the current wow retail. everyone I talk to in the new classic complains about it, how dumb/ easy it is. that game evolved to where it is now by capitulating to the whining minority. for proof simply look to the classic servers. everyone complained about how hard vanilla was, then bc, and so on and the game got easier and easier and more convenient. then they introduce the old classic experience and people who haven’t touched the game in a decade dive back in like pigs into crap!
Why? because people don’t always know what’s best, people really want to be challenged, they want to work for something, like that first epic world drop that actually means something. Or the memories of actually having to run from org to Tb instead of taking a zeppelin. - Don’t do anything for this game with political intent. you might feel like an inside joke you and your friends add in might be funny, and it might to some, but it very may well not to others. people play games to escape this world and experience something different. don’t bring the stresses and stupidity of this world into the fictional world of sanctuary. people get way to much of that crap on a daily basis.
Don’t make decisions to satisfy people, make decisions because that’s what would happen in sanctuary, and when you make those decisions refer back to #1 and don’t apologize. - Enjoy yourselves! if you’re having fun making this game and playing this game it’s going to show and come through in the final product. Take your time smooth out those edges, polish those swords, take a tooth brush to the nitty gritty cracks, make it shine! and when it’s ready release it for all to enjoy.
Please for the love of god don’t release a half realized turd with a bowtie on it like diablo3 was at launch, the game still feels halfway done. there was a lot to enjoy in diablo3 but it got overshadowed by all the unfinished garbage strewn all over the place. Time is your friend, take time and polish this rock into a diamond.
One last thing, I love how it looks so far! I’m really excited to see what you guys come up with!
You’re wrong. Only world bosses require multiple people and it requires no effort on your part to get a party. Since world bosses only spawn in the open world you can just show up by yourself and participate. However other “mmo-like” aspects are all solo-able. As for no one wanting it. It is exactly what I wanted. I don’t play mmo’s because it requires clans and grouping for everything. I enjoy gameplay of MMOs just not that it requires organizing people to actually play. Seems like D4 will allow you to enjoy MMO aspects without partying which is nice.
It does appear like they took a page from Guild Wars 2 in this respect - which is a good thing. The only time you need to group is if you want to.
Love what ive seen of d4 so far the only thing ive seen that seems like it needs reworked is the rune system rune words in diablo 2 were more than the effects of two runes i think you should go look it up /classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/runewords-110.shtml also maybe add charms and a charm specific inventory through which you can also add customizability
I’m pretty hyped for Diablo 4. They’re doing a ton of things right. Though, there are a couple of big things that they should reconsider. First, single player. I understand the appeal of always online. However to me, seeing other players throughout the world kills the barren and dark mood; ultimately undermining the world they’re trying to build. Secondly, some of the spell effects are still a little too bright. For example, if the Barbarian swings his weapon, their shouldn’t be a red shinny outline following behind his weapon. This goes for all melee attacks. For the Sorceress, brightness is okay. There are several other minor things. Like, runewords not being a set recipe for a specific item, the monotonous rifts returning, albeit called something else with tweaks, and the Druid’s model being weirdly proportioned.
Not world bosses or events.
First,
Thank you for making another Diablo game Blizzard! This is the franchise IP that I love the most from you guys and it deserves another sequel.
Impressions from Blizzcon presentations
Cinematic Trailer = Awesome! Dark, gritty, mysterious, EVIL, Beautiful and void of any light. I loved it. Diablo is back baby!
Gameplay & Environments:
I love the look, it’s bleak and desolate and terrifying. It really captures the Diablo 1 feel. The combat is fluid and looks to be hard hitting and the pacing seems pretty great (a tad slower than Diablo 3 which IMO is perfect). The combat effects looked really great. The artwork and 3d models are outstanding. I think more environmental effects Wind/rain/day night cycles/lighting would help enhance the mood of these environments a lot. Monsters look sinister and threatening. If combat does prove to be slower then monster telegraphs of powerful attacks can be integrated into the combat mechanics which adds exciting player feedback/input into gameplay.
Character Classes & Customization
Druid, Barb, and Sorc are all great additions. 2 other classes I personally would like a Ranger/Amazon/DemonHunter/Rogue class and a Summoner type class. Everyone has their own favourites so its hard to please everyone. A Dark Priest could be a different take on the necro with different magic types and summons.
Gameplay Systems:
-
(Skills and Talents) It’s early but I like a lot of what is presented. Talents as a build defining system layered onto ranked skills seems to offer some strategic depth. Would like to see how itemization integrates into these systems. Please layer in deep strategic choices into these systems that help to define characters. Don’t dumb it down.
-
Itemization. First I like the idea of the Common<Magic<Rare<legendary=Sets<Mythic in general. I’m also OK with simplification of the “presentation of information” such that the player can easily deduce which item is stronger for attack/defense. However, there needs to be depth behind the top layer information. Also the itemization needs to be properly paced such that each tier has meaning/relevance during the character power curve. Too quickly is common -> magic -> rare pushed to the sidelines. Diablo 2 managed to make these categories all relevant to the late game for those who were item poor with quality, etheral, sockets and runewords and powerful straight damage affixes/suffixes on magic/rare. I’d like to see that come back for Diablo IV to make the itemization choices more strategic. Also, please don’t neglect shields as a potential item to be used by barbs or other classes. Meaningful choice between survivability vs damage is interesting.
-
RuneWords: Yay there back! But I’m not sure yet if I like the system (condition&effect). Really they aren’t Runewords anymore. First, hopefully there is rarity for itemization with these runes with the powerful ones being harder to drop. 2nd. I’m hoping there is some synergies that can be made with multiple runewords that adds some more depth to the system rather than just figuring out which condition procs the most for your build and adding the most powerful damage effect to that condition. Every system needs to add strategic depth to choices for builds and right now this runeword system seems rather shallow. Too hard to know though from the information that has been provided.
Final Thoughts:
I liked what I saw at this early stage. I know a lot can change over the next 2-3 years. Please take your time and get this game right. Do the proper service to making this the best Diablo Game yet. I also understand why Diablo IV couldn’t have been presented last year (too early in its development) but of course things could have been handled better with the community. David Kim, you’ve given me hope for this franchise. Continue to listen and interact with your community and we can help each other.
Can’t wait!!
World bosses yeah. But afaik things like fractals and dungeons aren’t soloable in GW2. It’s the main reason I stopped playing. I was only really able to participate in world bosses and dungeons. Hard to find people to fractal with as they expect everyone to be experienced.
How come no one ever asked about the story or whether or not Diablo will be in a Diablo game? So far I haven’t seen any reference to him.
So the outside areas are multiplayer once you unlock the objective?
I am with you there! I don’t mind if the town areas are open to everyone but I would rather not have the countryside having other players in it. Still a long ways out so I guess it is a wait and see for me.
Thanks for mentioning this - Iin reference to GW2, was only talking about world bosses. I’ve heard the developers state that all instances in D4 are solo-able, including the end game ones.
My only concern as a player: if i dont have to think about what im wearing when i enter a keystone dungeon then this game failed.
If i dont have a reason to look at yellows at max level then this game failed itemization complexity.
The demo does not inspire confidence in either category.
I’ve learned to be both excited and cautious when approaching a new game these days, even if it’s from an IP or a company that I’ve previously loved. I played Diablo II extensively in Middle School, but Diablo III lost me very early on. Here are my biggest concerns as a gamer:
-
Microtransactions. Ideally, there would be absolutely none. Diablo is a role-playing game as much as it is a hack-and-slash, and I’d appreciate if everything you earn in the game is actually earned IN the game. However, I realize that MTs have become a necessary evil in the gaming world (emphasis on “evil”). I implore the developers and producers to - at most - only include microtransactions that are cosmetic. Please do not have any that are power-increasing or time-saving!
-
Railroad gameplay. Diablo II had lots of wide-open spaces where you could stray off the path and just farm hordes of demons and undead for nothing but XP, loot, and the sheer joy of it. There were some zones that were off the beaten path. One of my favorites was going through the Black Marsh and through a 5-level dungeon to defeat a boss that had absolutely 0 bearing on the main quest.
Diablo 3 felt more like I was just acting out my role in a play. The zones were narrow, so you basically just followed the path laid out in front of you. The story, while excellent, seemed to be the only form of gameplay. Just follow the quest arrow and continue on.
In tabletop RPGs, it’s called “railroading” when a GM will make a story that the players have to follow to the letter. The GM wants the party to go east, so there’s a troll to the north, a sea to the west, and if they go south then there’s a storm that forces them east. I felt railroaded by Diablo III, I don’t want to be by Diablo IV. -
Arcadey Gameplay. There are a lot of elements to Diablo III that take me out of the game. How easy it is to respec your character, how simple the skill building is, and how difficulties climb at high level. I think there’s a balance between Diablo II (where a respec was a reroll) and Diablo III (which felt like it was stripped of all permanent decision-making).
Overall, I’m excited by the news. It sounds like the developers know there are some elements of Diablo that got lost in the latest version. I look forward to seeing what comes of this game.
Bluddshed posted a 22-minute video yesterday summarizing his BlizzCon 2019 D4 Demo stream experience. He has covered many of the questions players are currently asking.
If you’re interested:
Game looks better but it does look like a better version of diablo 3.
What was a bigger success? Diablo 2 or diablo 3? Every player will say that its diablo 2. So let me post some constructive rewiew.
There are many things that are good and many that are not. I would say 50/50 which is better then diablo 3.
Regarding philosophy il write only this: From what I see(from interview) you still have the philosophy to make everyone happy. DROP IT. People need to see that they suck. People need to lose. We are not snowflakes. You are hurting us by depriving us from that experience. We need it. Why? if you don’t know why then that is a big problem. You don’t give a child a reward for participating - instead you teach , train and give a goal. Those values make us emerge(is that the proper word? ) in to the game. We spend more time to get better to find items to come on top…to be better then rest.
Now the game.
The darkness is real but you spoil it a bit with details and especially fonts.
Look at font in diablo 2 when you look at item description. It is not perfect which is the whole point. Letters are different sizes and somewere have errors in them and that is awsome. You are going for medival darkness so why should font be so smooth and plesent? No. Good example is the Diablo 4 logo. Look at that font. I would not use it in game but that font is great. The font used now does nto feel like diablo. It is just generic - only the O with cross tells that it is diablo.
Make T a cross…Make G with piked angles…make D irregual, make C with errors.
It matters.
A second example is the scroll telling “Press T to open a portal leading to town”. The idea is great. The scroll is too smooth again. The color is not good and of corse the font is wrong. Its shreded only at the ends…It does not feel old. It could be so much better.
The combat mechanics.
I’l split that in 2.
Oh boy. THat is the reason for me (except character UI) to tell that this is a diablo 3 remake and not better version of diablo 2.
1.When you hit a enemy why does the enemy is white highlited ? That is terrible ! You made so much effort to make the game dark and spoil that by telling us each time we hit someone that this is just a game. Look at diablo 2. You hit a enemy and enemy got stunned. Thats it. No highlighting. That makes it more real. It is important for people to emerge in to the game so let them.
Instead make the monster lose an arm. Make it bloody or spill blood. Dont tell “moster has 40% life left” show it but don’t tell. If player will want to know details he will mousover. Killing mosters like that would be a plasure.
2.Damage text.
I don’t say kill it. I say make a default without it. Someone wants to see it? Let him enable it but from default no damage numbers. People can tell how much damage they do by seeing how fast boss is killed. How fast monsters die. And if you want check then scroll over a mob and look how his HP does down.
When robbers rob a bank and shoot security guard he does not say “congratulations. You hit me crilically for 20% damage in my foot”.
Next thing is the character UI. I love how spells/life/etc look in left/bottom UI. I have nothing to add there. Its great. But the character UI? it has “diablo 3 remake” all over it. The only thing that is cool is your character in the middle. The items? To me there is totally no change between diablo 3 and this. Looks fake.when you make a ring make it bigger. With a emerald or ruby or something.
Rest of gear, even the color…sorry but I can’t find any positives there.
The weapon/armor details UI is so diablo 3…its like you did nothing there. Looks the same (yea i know it does not but those details you changed did nothing). Name is were it was. Cannot salvage…i mean…its diablo 3 everywere.
Runes are back YEEEY ! good job !
Hope there will be like 6 rune runewords.
And lastly the talents. Theres not enough of them. It does not matter that you can spend multiple talent points on one talent. I hope you are planing to expand talent tree because this is small. Even barbarians one tab in diablo 2 had more skills…well…maybe not one tab :). Still its not enough.
But in whole as I said its 50/50. Definetly step in good direction. Now lets expand and focus on details.
When I saw the white highlighting on hit, I thought it was kind of awkward as well. However, I think it helped with making attacks feel impactful. The animations and sound designs were really well done, though, so maybe they could tone down the highlighting to make it more subtle or provide an option to turn it off in settings.
They did have some mechanics for bigger bosses that showed when you stagger them they can lose a claw or something, which also impacts fight mechanics. I think focusing on things like that is the right direction, as that is one of the big things that D3 did better than most of its competition. It would be a nice touch to lose a limb here and there for smaller mobs too, but I think it would ultimately make a better game to focus on mechanics. If they have the time, maybe?
I am pretty certain they will have an option to turn off damage numbers.
Totally agree here. I really liked the detailed artwork and lore descriptions of items in Diablo 2 (and some games that copy it). I asked for that after seeing the D3 demos as well. Unfortunately it makes inventory management much more difficult, so they mostly scrapped big items and good item artwork… but I think they could keep the small items in the inventory and then make them bigger when equipped so you can enjoy the artwork still! Oh well, would be kind of nice to add that for people who remembered D2 fondly, if legacy is really important to them… but I am not holding my breath there unfortunately. Their focus now seems to be showing the items after they’re equipped on the character, since that is central to the screen. 3D models are harder to get right, it usually just lacks the detail, but hopefully it gives you that feeling of equipping something substantial and interesting and not just a card with numbers.
Hah, yeah - I laughed a bit when they showed that runewords were limited to combining two runes. Mechanic-wise, I think it still makes sense for adding something to items like that, but I think we understood rune words to be something different previously. It doesn’t sound like runewords as we remember them will come back. I am hopeful they will unveil more systems for customizing items as well.
D2 had four small tabs, if I remember correctly, that incorporated skills and talents. They weren’t very big, so I think number-wise it matches or is even more with D4 from what they showed. I think adding talent points alone is actually very useful, since it adds some much needed depth to more horizontal progression and variety around itemization if nothing else. Hoepfully it doesn’t boil down into being ‘essential’ on items, where if +skill doesn’t roll the item is worthless, but there are ways to fix that. From what I have seen so far, they are pretty clearly focusing on fixing some of the main problem areas of D3, while recognizing and building on some of the game’s strengths, which is a good sign.
