D4 skill respec shouldn't cost gold!

By the time you get up to lvl 70-80, every time you respec and switch build, it will cost your entire gold saving. That’s stupid. And unnecessary! You want players to explore build options, not to penalize us when we do so!

Should just learn from D3, respec/switching build should be free!

I think making meaningful choices is a good direction. And being able to mix it up next time you restart. There is a cap on the respec price anyway i believe. Not only that but i swear i read or heard once you max a class you can reroll instantly the same class at max level.

I really, really hope you are right about that.

No :scream_cat: Respeccing should be significantly limited. Anything else is bad tbh.
Respeccing more than about 1 time per week should be highly unviable.

That said, I also dont think respeccing should cost gold. If the cost should be a currency (and not a buff/debuff/timer or other such solutions) there should be a different currency for respeccing. A respec token so to speak.

You can skip the campaign it seems like. Doubt you can skip lvls.

Yea… oh well. No problemo. I’m going to probably only want to make 1 of each character anyway yet alone respec lots of times, personally that is.

It’s pretty easy to farm the gold you would need.

nope
it should be more expensive :v

As expected

Increase the cost significantly.

The only situation I see where respeccing should not be significantly limited is if they have a really small amount of character slots. I like to play several different versions of classes and if we only get 1 or 2 character slots per class, this makes playing different builds nearly impossible. If you have 5+ character slots per class then it is very reasonable to highly restrict respeccing.

It might be possible to buy character slots in D4… who knows. That many respecs will be many hours of game time.

2/10 troll bait

You can do better JT

That would just make the goldsellers happy.

Yeah, hopefully there is a high amount of character slots.
I’d say at minimum 20 initially, with more added if they add more classes.

I sure hope there is no such thing as a goldseller in D4?
Gold should not be tradeable.

But if it is, that only underscores why the cost should be a different currency than gold.

Given that trading will be a thing I assume gold will be the currency used.

Just don’t have a cost, problem solved.

Could be item for item trading.
Doesn’t exactly sound like trading will be much of a “thing” after all.
But yeah, maybe gold is tradeable. Nothing else in the game should use gold as a serious currency in that case.

Honestly I’m glad there’s a cost for respeccing. As for how heavy or light the cost should be, I’m hoping it won’t be too costly unless someone respecs multiple times within quick succession.

D3’s easy respec is a really bad way to go as you no longer feel like you own the character. You just own a class you can change at any time. It also makes it super easy for people to figure out the top meta builds.

Rod’s statement that it’s easier to reroll at 90 than to farm to respec is concerning though. There should be a happy middle ground. I think D2 currently has a fairly generous full respec system with one free one per difficulty completed and the ability to farm an item for more respecs. You can also trade for that item. POE is fine if you only want to change like 20 nodes or so. Even then you can trade for the respec currency. I guess D4 could add a respec currency as well that could be traded.

The concern with what they are saying is that if you brick a build while leveling, well it will be hard to farm for gold at a certain point. So you’ll possibly HAVE to reroll.

I do kind of like the D3 armory system which allows you switch between specs. Maybe a dual spec system in D4 will at least allow you to make a solo build and a group build. as opposed to having to make one of each.

No it will not. And you can aquire gold easily.

Yeah…depends on how costly the respec gold is and how easy you can earn the gold back in-game, players may find that it is easier and more economic just to create multiple characters for specific roles.

Even if D4 respec is not costly, I just can’t see a normal player will swap builds around for PVP, PVE, Raid and etc in their average 2 hours playthrough.

By the time you hit 50, you can experiment out every skill mechanic and synergy, almost free. Probably read all skill information also on the tree, so you’ll have a pretty good idea where you want to go. As experienced players we should not go blidly into building a character. And you don’t have to respec your entire tree, you can siwitch skills, passives, skill upgrades one by one.
