[D4] It is PAY FOR POWER as long as GAMBLING allows legendary drops

I have no idea if the Diablo community is aware of this:

Gambling for gold is back:
- You can get some of the most powerful items in the game through it.

Player spending RL money → Acquires in-game GOLD from 3rd-party seller → GAMBLES with in-game GOLD for LEGENDARY/MYTHIC items

I understand they want to offer whales increased drop chances through trading and gambling, but this is simply too much. I really hope the greed for money doesn’t destroy another Blizzard game.

Solutions to the above given by people in this thread:

  1. Gambling has to be done with BoA currency different than gold
  2. Gambling has to drop only tradeable items
  3. Gold has to be BoA and trading items has to render them 0 gold
  4. Gambling has to be inefficient gameplay mechanic aka just for fun
  5. Items from gambling are flagged and not usable competitively

The term P2W refers to the company directly offering a monetary way to get an advantage…

Just because I pay an Indian money to level my character for me doesn’t make it a P2W game.

Okay, I put other meaning in the term, namely a more broadly one: PAY TO WIN

It doesn’t matter WHO the player PAYS as long as he WINS advantage from in-game SYSTEM himself after the paying.

Yeah, it really doesn’t matter whether it’s through official ingame methods or unofficial 3rd party methods, P2W is still P2W.

One way to rectify this is to use some other currency instead of gold for gambling and that currency would be always bound on account. Or just being unable to get best items through gambling.

Yes, these are the two ways as long as trading exists and it will exist, because of the whales who are going to spend thousands in MTX shop.

Good day to you partner! I’m Gheed and I can already tell that I’ll be your best friend in this forsaken franchise!!

Resurrect Gheed’s ghost and reintroduce blood shards for gambling…done.

Now, now, now…don’t be shy. All of his items are guaranteed for life and come with a two day warranty!

If you involve 3rd parties then any game is pay-to-win, I can just pay someone to play on my account and get me the items.

Technically this would always exist as long as there is no RL ID bound to account and account sharing prevention.

However, this is not the worst case since this person who plays instead of you can’t gain unfair advantage over the skilled players.

With gambling with gold and trading the whale could just spend $10k on gold from different sellers and have the GG gear from gambling on the fifth day of Season. This is absolutely stupid.

Dude I like that there is a MTX shop, I will never spend anything on it but the people that do will create a continuous source of income, that makes it more likely that the game receives continuous support.

Yes, I agree, whales are important for regular updates and everyone knows it. However, once you give them unlimited power from P2W the game is not a GAME anymore it’s a PARODY.

You don’t understand what P2W means…P2W is when the devs/publisher sell stuff. You’re saying that it’s P2W that you’re able to pay some dude in “Diablo” 3 to drop the item they just got and that’s just a ridiculous way of thinking…

I already replied to this:

The devs specifically said during blizzcon that you will not be able to buy “power” in D4 so I think its just going to be cosmetics you can buy.

Yes, and that’s completely wrong. That way of thinking completely renders the term pay-to-win pointless as it covers EVERY game ever made. According to you p2w to let players send their NES to someone else and have them beat Super Mario Bros for you. You’re trying to turn p2w into a buzzword

No, I clearly stated what I mean by P2W. I suggest you re-read it and comment again.

Yes. It is Pay to Win if you can purchase in-game gold with real money, especially for the game like D4 which is made with PvP in mind.

It doesn’t matter to whom you pay. If you pay and then gain instant advantage over other players, it’s P2W.

Hm, maybe nowadays Blizzard will be prepared for that, tracking and issuing bans to suspicious transactions.

I hope they can do so, I like having gamble as a money sink option.

Except who said gold is tradeable and/or purchaseable from the cosmetic store?

Non-tradeable = no third party gold sellers.

Ugh you people are such drama queens, it’s so cringe.

P2W is when the game sells you stuff, not when you’re simply able to use real money for in-game benefits which is possible in every single game ever made. I can pay someone to let me leech items in “Diablo” 3 or I can pay someone to boost me in WoW. Referring to that as P2W is just wrong because the meaning of P2W is already established and doesn’t need brainlets bastardizing it.

The way your broken brains work you’re effectively saying that using in-game gold to buy items is P2W too since you completely ignore what P2W actually means…
