D4 End game PVP

They should do much more pvp as end game activity as this keeps people playing and mastering pvp for thousands of hours. It also encourages people to want to keep grinding pve.

I want a reasons to make builds. Making sick builds tailored to 1v1s. Or builds tailored to 2v2s. Builds tailored to being the best at smashing down doors and sieging castles in pve/pvp battlegrounds modes. Builds tailored to being the flag carrier. Builds tailored to 4v4 Invasions.

Pve gets boring to me after just a couple of playthroughs. Invasions in Dark Souls and Elden Ring made the game last much, much longer for me.

We need more pvp modes. There’s tons of pve planned but no pvp for solo players and no ranked arena mode. Pvp is really important to a lot of modern gamers.

These would be the pvp modes I would add and scenarios they would fulfil.

Invasions

Invasions (like Dark Souls/Elden Ring) toggle for pve/pvp. Fight anywhere, no rules applied 1v1s, 2v2s, 3v3s and 4v4s. Not worrying too much about gear level or ranked mmr. Being able to be invaded inside dungeons but not during boss fights, just like Elden Ring. This makes endless farming in pve so much more fun, and gives me a reason to want to keep farming better gear. Being able to dominate in pvp! Nightmare dungeons would definitely be kicked up a notch :slight_smile:

World PVP/Duels

World pvp toggle for pvp only in the overworld if you don’t want to be bothered inside dungeons. With a more immersive “bumping into someone on a lonely road” feel to it. And being able to bump into different sized groups (you could be a solo player bumping into other solo players or running from groups, or being a 1v4 monster, or you could be a full 4 man group of bandits hunting down players, lots of immersive scenarios here). Duel requests for more honourable duels in the overworld when bumping into players, when you both have world pvp turned off but still want to duel.

Arena

Arena I would keep to 1v1s and 2v2s. It would be much easier to balance pvp if ranked arena mode was based around 1v1s and 2v2s for less complexity, or no bigger than 3v3. That way devs could have a direction on how to balance pvp. Every other mode would be expected to not be balanced as well. Unless other builds like group buffs cater to larger team based pvp, and were useless in Arena. They could then be balanced separately without affecting arena.

Battlegrounds

Battlegrounds would be much bigger pve/pvp large team games for epic battles and war style scenarios. Hopefully including mob killing, tower destroying, npc/item escorting, mini boss killing for buffs, choke point attacking and defending, zone control, siege weapon creating for sieging large epic buildings like a castle. With the backdrop of a believable setting in the Diablo lore.

This is my dream for Diablo 4 pvp.

PvP should have its own dedicated mode, just like HC is. That is all.

Mixing PvP into the PvE mode doesn’t work good (see LA). On the other side, if you keep these separated, you essentially enlarge your player base since players that are not interested in PvE-only scenario might decide to buy your game once they found out there is a dedicated PvP mode with its own rules.

The current implementation of PvP in D4 will make:

  • Dedicated PvP-ers completely skip D4
  • PvE players doing tedious stuff to get the PvP rewards

I am very surprised the D4 team isn’t investigating other aRPG games PvP popularity within PvE. If they do, they’d know it doesn’t work well and all the PvP talk for Diablo 4 would be a marketing trick, which would be lame. That’s not the way to make sales - do it with productive design, not with commercial baits.

What percentage of people even care about PvP and how much resources and development time is wasted on it? I would rather have them spend the time and money on new classes and an expanded environment.

Though im not a pvp fan, if it’s done right, it could attract a huge ammount of people, maybe even outnumbering pve solo players. Don’t underestimate this game mode, it can be very popular. The game should be developed evenly between both. Or atleast give some more to do, to pvp players, theres allready much more pve activity. Let them also have their fun, let everyone find their fun.

If Blizzard considers it a good investment, that’s up to them.

Could apply the same selfish reasoning to anything in the game, “oh I don’t like World Bosses, random events, melee classes… so cut them because !”

I can vouch for that, in D:I battlegounds are clearly more popular than dungeons of raids.

They most likely did not because all you get are the Fields of Hatred.

Of course, that is what we are talking about try and stay on track. D4s verson of PvP is the FoH, that is all you get. Noting close to what the OP wanted. Thay do not appear to want to waste a lot of time on PvP. If you want PvP join the MMA let’s see how good you really are.

Who knows but Diablo Immortal PVP/Battleground is rather popular though.

Every time I go in it is with a bunch of random people at the end it always says Victory.
Can you go head-to-head with just one other person (PvP) or is it always a group?

It is a team based PVP game.

So you’re ok with spending resources on PvP after all ? Since that’s what Blizzard is doing already with the Fields.
So what is this “Blizzard stop waisting resource on PvP because I don’t like it” is supposed to mean then ?

PvP in D4 is in the form of the FoH that is already in the game so enjoy it. That was Blizzard’s attempt to apprize a sub section of the community. They have never said anything about creating other PvP modes like the OP wants. I would assume that most Diablo played would like the world to be expanded vs adding more PvP modes. Think of it this way every single D4 played will be in the world, only some players will be in PvP. Should they put time into something that everyone will play or put that time into something that only some people will play.

Avalon likely means that he rather Blizzard not spend additional resources on pvp, nothing more beyond the fields of hatred. I doubt he’s saying no to any pvp content in general since he’s well aware of the Fields of Hatred.

Now personally, I can settle for just Fields of Hatred. If Blizzard decides to add more pvp activities and/or content down the line, I’d be fine with that. If they decide to simply leave it at the Fields of Hatred and focus solely on pve, then I’d also be fine with that.

My only requests pertaining to pvp is that it’s optional (in terms of character power and progress), so that players who dislike it can opt out without major and/or noticable consequences, and that players only deal a fraction of their damage to one another (similar to D2), so we don’t have a repeat of D3 brawl where players can pretty much one shot one another (even when brawling was first introduced).

And before anyone says that I don’t pvp, I have actually pvped/dueled in D2 for over a decade, and have requested pvp in D3 (before being disappointed by brawling), and I’m currently looking forward to Diablo 4’s pvp even if it’s just limited to Fields of Hatred.

I wonder if each “zone” will have one. Five FoH or just one in a fixed location. I really think it will be a mess as they have said It will not be fair. I can see it now a bunch of “pros” who think that are all that will just be sitting outside of the FoH so they can jump on a noob and steal his shards. Man, those “pros” are so good. After a few times of that many new people will never waste time with that nonsense.

Arena PvP makes the most sense as a new mode.
That is the one I would pick as a developer. Also, have an arena mode where you pick a gear and build before the arena starts. That way people can have PvP that requires no PvE grind or “luck” at all. Might be popular with some people. And also be the place where you could have “fair competition PvP”, whereas the other PvP modes would, and should, be “chaotic PvP”.

Battlegrounds is what I personally would be most interested in. But I dont think those can work at all in a Diablo game.

Duels should just be an obvious feature from the start. If PvP exists, it makes little sense not to allow duels from the start.

Invasions as an optional toggle? Would be fine with it. It would not harm anything. That said, I can imagine it would take a bunch of work to make it possible inside dungeons. So maybe only in the overworld.

In any case, I only support spending more resources on PvP, it if does not diminish the resources out into PvE development.
Also, PvP and PvE likely need different game rules and balancing. As in, skills should not work the same in PvE and PvP, to ensure that we dont have to nerf or buff some skill universally, just because it is too strong/weak in one setting, but not the other.

Sincerely doubt PvP is something I will enjoy, that said I don’t care if it’s in the game as long as it’s optional. Getting “invaded” while in a dungeon for sure would keep me from buying the game.

Not going to happen no one can go hostel on anyone outside of the FoH and the FoH is totally optional.
