They should do much more pvp as end game activity as this keeps people playing and mastering pvp for thousands of hours. It also encourages people to want to keep grinding pve.
I want a reasons to make builds. Making sick builds tailored to 1v1s. Or builds tailored to 2v2s. Builds tailored to being the best at smashing down doors and sieging castles in pve/pvp battlegrounds modes. Builds tailored to being the flag carrier. Builds tailored to 4v4 Invasions.
Pve gets boring to me after just a couple of playthroughs. Invasions in Dark Souls and Elden Ring made the game last much, much longer for me.
We need more pvp modes. There’s tons of pve planned but no pvp for solo players and no ranked arena mode. Pvp is really important to a lot of modern gamers.
These would be the pvp modes I would add and scenarios they would fulfil.
Invasions
Invasions (like Dark Souls/Elden Ring) toggle for pve/pvp. Fight anywhere, no rules applied 1v1s, 2v2s, 3v3s and 4v4s. Not worrying too much about gear level or ranked mmr. Being able to be invaded inside dungeons but not during boss fights, just like Elden Ring. This makes endless farming in pve so much more fun, and gives me a reason to want to keep farming better gear. Being able to dominate in pvp! Nightmare dungeons would definitely be kicked up a notch
World PVP/Duels
World pvp toggle for pvp only in the overworld if you don’t want to be bothered inside dungeons. With a more immersive “bumping into someone on a lonely road” feel to it. And being able to bump into different sized groups (you could be a solo player bumping into other solo players or running from groups, or being a 1v4 monster, or you could be a full 4 man group of bandits hunting down players, lots of immersive scenarios here). Duel requests for more honourable duels in the overworld when bumping into players, when you both have world pvp turned off but still want to duel.
Arena
Arena I would keep to 1v1s and 2v2s. It would be much easier to balance pvp if ranked arena mode was based around 1v1s and 2v2s for less complexity, or no bigger than 3v3. That way devs could have a direction on how to balance pvp. Every other mode would be expected to not be balanced as well. Unless other builds like group buffs cater to larger team based pvp, and were useless in Arena. They could then be balanced separately without affecting arena.
Battlegrounds
Battlegrounds would be much bigger pve/pvp large team games for epic battles and war style scenarios. Hopefully including mob killing, tower destroying, npc/item escorting, mini boss killing for buffs, choke point attacking and defending, zone control, siege weapon creating for sieging large epic buildings like a castle. With the backdrop of a believable setting in the Diablo lore.
This is my dream for Diablo 4 pvp.
