D4 Devs, please don't listen to the community

Yea, this guy knows his stuff.

Path of exile copied much more from D2 then D3. But it still improved and evolved on its systems. Unlike D3, some examples:

Potions

PoE - no more filling inventory with flasks and moving stuff to belt. Instead the refill by killing monsters etc… They also added unique flasks with special buffs.

D3 - removed all flasks but 1.

Leveling

PoE - Hard to reach max level but just like D2 its still possible. Punish people that only go pure dps cuz deaths means exp lose.

D3 - Easy to reach max level, endless grind of paragon levels.

Endgame

PoE - Added mapping system already in beta. Allows for alot of variation. Added a huge map atlas for more depth.
Game recieved endgame content like Delve, incursion, uber lab, daily quests, immortal syndicate, uber bosses like Shaper, Atziri, Aul, Elder etc…

D3 - had no endgame on release, just 4 acts like D2. But all the balance was of.
Greater rift got added but is a barebone excuse of an endgame.

Itemization

PoE - improved on D2s system and added even more complexity. The game is filled with unique items that opens upp different play styles.
Not only that, rare items can still be some of the most powerful items in the game.
Shaped and Eldar items with special affixes and prefixes.
Jewels that can be socketed into the passive tree… Divination cards, the list goes on…

D3 - On launch items had horrible drop rate. Unique items where thrash.
Now the game mainly focuses around getting certain set items which completly destroys any build diversity. Just nothing exciting to discover.

Character building

PoE - a massive passive tree which offers alot of options. Each class has 3 subclasses(6 in PoE2). Loads of different skills which can be modified by up to 5 support gems. Which offers up alot of options for how your skills behave.
Pantheon abilities for added protection.
Loads of items that opens up more builds and abilities.
Respeccing is expensive so your decisions matter, which makes it more rewarding if your character works in the endgame.

D3 - removes the talent tree. You unlock abilities at a certain level.
Few abilities and one skill rune which can alter you skill. Sets further locks down build diversity.
Free respecc so no real reward factor depending on what choices you take. No need to ever roll a new char for trying another build.

The list can go on… But you get the point.
The problem is not at all that D3 is too much like D2. The problem is that D3 butcherd almost everything that makes ARPGs good.

No thanks. I like that they’re engaging with the community and are asking for feedback. I don’t want another lead game dev that thinks he knows everything and then we get another D3.

POE devs were die hard D2 fans who knew D2 in and out. I agree that PoE devs had a serious inspiration that was D2 and copied stuff, as I have mentioned already, they done their homework right. They knew the depth and they hard perfect vision how to copy, while D3 devs only had a glance on D2 and they thought they gonna get away with it…

They failed…

Nothing impressive though. As far as I remember in earlier blizzcons D3 devs didn’t know a lot of items from D2, didn’t know a lot of mechanics D2 offered and they basically seen this game as “well, I’ve seen it but I never was a biggest fan”.

So what happened, they took the formula which they had no clue about and applied it to their completely different vision and in the end it DID NOT STACK.

GG(G).

To this day I still play D3 a little and PoE devs don’t always make things I like, but when they truly try they deliver. I hope that in D4 the devs are gonna truly try and “Deliver”.

Unfortunately this is the reality and future of gaming.

Also props to the people who totally misunderstood the point I was trying to make.

The vast majority of players numerically are casual players. Most of the posts are from high level players, not from casual players. However, if Blizz only got income from posters, this game series would die a sudden death.

Good effort for a troll.

Nice formatting.

You do see the irony of your post? By posting in these forums you become part of the very community that you are asking the D4 developers to ignore.

The itemization seems to be in early development. The devs said it multiple times. It’s fine if they ask for feedback.

Only the devil is in the details. It’s especially true for Diablo. D3 is a kick butt action RPG in theory, and yet the itemization and the character progression are crap, that ruin everything else.

It’s like a movie. If the script and the story is bad, no amount of CGI or awesome actors is gonna save it.

There’s nothing wrong in the devs asking what people would actually enjoy as opposed to getting things wrong and repeating the same mistake the D3 devs made.

I’m sure Jay is proud of D3… that’s not enough.

The devs already said they wanna take D1 atmosphere, D2 progression such as itemization, skill ranks and so on, and D3 combat.

I did play the D3 beta. Guess what. There was no indication on lvl 13, that the itemization will be so poor and it will be all about yelllows, because on launch there were no legendary items, that were usable on inferno.

You’re trying to make it seem, as if the players are somehow responsible for the state of D3 at release. What you’re trying to push is pure fantasy and didn’t happen.

Who demanded original inferno, craptastic itemization and the stupid skill system D3 launched with? Nobody.
Who asked for the uncapped Paragon 2.0 with RoS? Nobody.
Who asked for RMAH? Nobody. We we’re told back in 2011, that the game will have a RMAH and that was it… until it was removed due to regulations.

Is it better than most of the modern trash games? Sure.
Is it better than D2. Not really. In many ways, D2 remains the superior game.

No I’m not. You are jumping to conclusions that I didn’t make.

It very much is and always will be, even after D4 is released.
